Wait now - JDRommel is a scenario designing expert? I feel a lot less bad about him kicking my butt online the other day now He was a genuine pleasure to play against tho.
Also, thanks for this guys, though you really do need to stop this - I spend enough on the board game, and I'm trying to eke out my free ingots and wait a while before I spend on this too....

I wouldn't expect that they count.
Usually it is the scenarios that existed when the promotion was announced.

I thank DoW for the new scenarios but I am also dissappointed.
It is 11 1/2 months since the last M44 upgrade and bug fix release.
And all we get is scenarios? Seriously? That's it 17 scenarios crreated and play tested by users?
Where is the new promotion and awards?
Does anyone else feel neglected?
.
Come on DoW scenarios are nice but a proper release would be nicer.

Awww... that's just Phread being Phread...
I think these 17 new scenarios are a great and wonderful addition to the online game. Thanks Gheintz! And thanks Days of Wonder for getting them online for all to play.
17 new battles. Can a new promotion be far behind?
I may have to put that pet duck of mine back in his cage while I try them all out.

That's a little harsh Sir.
I am being honest.
As one how has played since the M44 online beta went public, one who has an award for "For outstanding contribution beyond the call of duty during Beta-testing", one who help test these scenarios (and kept the secret), one who staunchly defends DoW - I feel that I am am entitled to express my disappointment.
Since that post I have received feedback - outside the forum - that I'm not the only disappointed player.
I am not ungrateful for more standard scenarios. I am pleased to have more scenarios to be beaten in.
But the lack of a real release is unfortunate. We haven't had a release since Jan 14 2012, 49 weeks ago.
As reported in other threads on this forum there are a number of long standing bugs that need fixing. M44 online is a little neglected and that is an honest reflection.
From the beta days of a release a week (or more frequently) almost a year and no release in sight I am disappointed.
DoW are a great company. I reiterate this.
But in the lack of a real release of M44 online they are letting themselves, and us, down.

I am very happy that new scenarios are in and I appreciate the work of the DOW crew. This online game has gotten me interested in WWII history and the other DOW games as well. But I have to agree with Pread that I was really looking forward to new rules being enforced and some minor bugfixes been made.
Nevertheless a very Merry Christmas.

Now it is time to play around with these treats... and wait a bit longer for a new release, bug fixes and so on. I'm sure it will be just a matter of time and patience.

As I said months ago, I don't think they have a programmer anymore (either he left or was let go) and I think they don't want to put any more money into this product. A LOT of the rules from the editor don't work online, (see M44 Wikispaces unsupported items), and they haven't been fixed. Even errors for scenarios posted in the Official tab have not been fixed (see M44 Wikispaces Official Scenario Errors).
I've been posting "official" scenarios that will work with the editor the past 16 months, and won't need to anymore (like after Operation Spring and Gold Beach were added last January). These scenarios make up most of the list, and are now available for 2 credits, so I got no complaint with that.
I saw some that I didn't feel comfortable posting because they wouldn't work properly, they've put the following up anyway with glitches:
LIPOVEC - is using Fordable Streams #61 instead of Fordable River #41; the latter is -1 to shoot from river.
COUNTER-ATTACK AT ARRAS uses British tanks that can only move 0-2. The Med Pack/Desert scenarios state British tanks can only move 2 for those scenarios, not every scenario, like this one.
STRASBOURG uses the unclassified map (with incidental color changes) but the classified river rules (2 dice instead of 1). No fix to automated mover problem that has you go across an extra frozen river when you don't have to.
TENARU does not let the engineer move 2 into close combat and battle as it should. Please don't debate this rule here. It's been discussed elsewhere.
I don't expect any fixes in 2013. Surprise me.

To open, our attitude was to try to get as many scenarios posted as possible. However, we did not want to post scenarios that did not work correctly. Several scenarios that I initially thought would be viable were dropped for some reasons (bunkers on hills not blocking LoS, mountains, rope bridge, etc.).
To shed some light on these choices...
1)We actually went back and forth on Lipovec. Interestingly enough, Lipovec was originally released before the Air Pack using the rules for Fordable Streams. Thus, we were comfortable releasing it using the older pre-Air Pack rules.
2)In Counter-attack at Arras, Blitz Rules are in effect. That is the reason that the British tanks can only move 2. I was actually very conscious of this rule, and the Battle of Hong Kong was not implemented because of it (which I was sad to see, because it's a great scenario).
3)Strasbourg -- I felt OK with the color changes, as DOW has made these changes before (Twin Villages, for example), and I think it adds to the atmosphere. We also changed the Bastogne scenarios to the Winter Board and hexes, even though they are the pre-Air Pack versions in all other ways. As far as the Frozen River, I would have liked to use the pre-Air Pack Rules for consistency, but I don't think the addition of 1 extra die breaks the scenario. This choice was made to make the scenario available sooner rather than later.
4)Tenaru -- Unfortunately, this one I just missed, so I apologize for that. It looks like this clarification of the Japanese Engineer rule may not be in the latest FAQ supplement, and I either forgot or assumed the rule did not apply to engineers. If I had known that this did not play correctly, I probably would have left it out. You can blame this one on me...
As mentioned above, we did our best to make as many scenarios available as we could, and I'm sorry that there couldn't be more at the moment and for any glitches that I overlooked. But please be aware that the playtesters and I did our best to test as much functionality as possible, so I hope that there will be no other mistakes unearthed.
Enjoy!
Geoff

For some reason, the preview maps of Bastogne and Strasbourg are all showing the original standard clear green. I recommend changing the preview maps to the snow white board of the real online maps, as it is the case with Twin Villages.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't realize you were involved that closely with DOW.
I initially thought about putting Counter-attack at Arras in SFTF a month or so ago, but 3x I went back to look at it, I saw British tanks, but missed the Blitz. I'll look forward to playing this 10x or more since I bought a Sergeant Pack yesterday after seeing the "new" scenarios.
I don't mind the color change for Strasbourg, and the straight river versus 2 bends near baseline don't concern me too much. I just mentioned it to be thorough, since I was looking at it and saw river movement wasn't fixed.
Thanks for pointing out Lipovec. I have the Air Pack so I guess I never thought to look at the rules for the unclassified version:
| Quote: | The River Szob is a fordable river.
Movement: A unit may enter a River hex that is a fordable stream, but must stop. The unit may still Take Ground after a successful Close Assault Combat.
Battle: No combat restrictions.
Line of Sight: A Fordable Stream does not block line of sight.
|
I'll give that a try too.
I do like Po Valley and Crucifix Hill which have the "bunker on hill" problem. I don't know if that causes problems for people, but it's more likely to come up there than the bunker on a hill in First Assault. I have tried Battle of Hong Kong both ways. When I've used the British tank, I needed to move 3; and when I've used the American tank, I was knocked to 1 figure in close assault so could have used the British Battle Back!

Just to be clear, I'm not associated with DoW in any official capacity. I just volunteered to help with this project and assessed which scenarios could be implemented.
Other than that, I'm just a long-time, enthusiastic fan of the company and the game.

Perhaps anyone that might need more Ingots in the near future should grab them now ?
With any chance DOW will see the outpouring of support in the $ column as well as within this thread, and be further motivated to support the game in the way of additional scenarios and bug fixes ( Excepting that ~ White Line ~ thing of course - I like that one )...

I expect that those who want further development in the online version (which includes me) will not see much development in 2013.
2014 on the other hand is the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the 10th anniversary of Memoir.
I can wait

I think you have answered your own question there. I think the programmers are/were concentrating on Ticket to Ride and not on M44. I could be wrong but I think these are the same persons.
I estimate that more people play Ticket to Ride than M44 so investing in TTR first and M44 second seems a sound business model.
Having said that I also hope that more M44 stuff will be programmed.

And frequent e-mails about "Ticket to Ride" enhancements and promos just add fuel to the fire - why is Memmoir so neglected in DOW? Are we destined to wait until the 70th aniversary of the D-Day to get rid of the annoying bugs that are waiting to be fixed? Is there ANYONE left in the programming department?

DOW has demonstrated in many ways that they know they have a large, enthusiastic Memoir Online community. (They also recently released their largest expansion ever for the physical Memoir game.) At the same time, like any small business, they must choose which projects to focus on at any moment. They have several games to support, and let's assume that some of those other games also have loyal communities of followers.
I believe this release of 17 official online scenarios is the largest single release since Memoir Online began. We all just got a nice gift, so how about if we enjoy that a little, rather than complaining that it would have been better to get a nicer one.
