Six games in 54mm today and one special game yesterday Sun, 30 December 2012 00:11
Today I got in six games with a good friend. Two of Ponyri Station, two of Brody and two of Velikaya Bridgehead. All were in 54mm and I was on the losing end 4-2 thanks to my crappy die rolling and the sizzling dice work of my friend Ray.

Yesterday, I got in a very special game as it was my 8 year old son, Aidan's first game. We played the Pegasus Bridge scenario. Despite losing, he had a lot of fun. He wants to play my big version, but his height challengedness makes it harder for him to play that one. He has played Battle Cry before so he was able to build on that knowledge.

Not a bad couple of days!

Just needed... Apparently all those games compromised my grammar abilities.

Thanks Erik,

This year I am going to add some Western Front forces to my big game, plus I am going to a new basing configuration for the troops.

Sounds like this year will also see a lot of battles against your new opponent (your son), which should be a lot of fun!! Enjoy as he gets even better at commanding his troops!

I will work on my 'patience' skill this year sir, well i ll try harder anyways, as i done for the past years. Very Happy

Nicely done sir, only i wonder why not hexagones for the map, but you might have your reasons. Rolling Eyes

Two reasons on the squares instead of hexes... The offset squares work the same as hexes and it is a little less work... I have never had luck aligning hexes in the past... Somehow something messes up the further I go along. Secondly, I just like how terrain fits in the square vs. a hex. It works for the most part.... I occasionally need to consult the scenario maps for LOS issues.

I have considered build a smaller scale version of the game for my son, perhaps in 1/72.... I may get a preprinted hex mat for him if I go that route.

Your pictures look great.
54mm looks like it would be good for younger player, minis are easier to move. Where abouts do you play in your house? This scale takes up a lot of room.
Like you said 1/72 might be better for your son. If he stays interested, he most likely will want to play M44 when he gets older.

We have a game room that is basically the kids play area plus my empire building. My main table is 4x6 although I do the occasional Overlord at 6x12. I had a lot of 54mm stuff in boxes doing nothing so it seemed like a good idea at the time. But yes, it takes up a lot of room.
