Help us make Small World better, a whole lot better! Tue, 15 January 2013 15:18
We're creating a new digital version of YOUR favorite fantasy board game... and you can help make it better thanks to Kickstarter!

Small World was the first board game EVER on the iPad - if you were one of those who waited in line at your Apple store that day, you could start playing the minute you got home. Fans and critics alike loved it. But our development team quickly turned their focus onto Ticket to Ride for iPad making it look like we had abandoned Small World.

Not so... Small World 2 for iPad is now well underway and it will ship later this year; but we want to make this more than just a simple upgrade. We have tons of ideas for add-ons to the project - not just more features and expansions, but also new platforms to support - and some really cool swag to complement the board game.

On the digital side, we're already well underway in adding the 3-5 player maps, online network play with a brand new asynchronous server and more. With support from the Kickstarter community and our fan base, we hope to make these new features available as a free upgrade to all existing Small World for iPad players. And we'd like to go even further - developing additional expansions such as Realms or Small World Underground (Be Not Afraid... is already in the works); and adding support for many more digital platforms, such as Steam and Android.

On the boardgame side, we've got some insanely fun game components that we've been dreaming of producing for years, but simply couldn't justify producing, including Philippe Keyaerts' very own deluxe tokens; an over-the-top, over-sized Small World Designer Edition; finely detailed 3D figures of our favorite Small World races; and more...

But the only way we can produce these expensive add-ons is if we know precisely how many to make. And your Kickstarter pledge levels will tell us exactly that, as well as how many additional digital expansions and platforms we can justify supporting.

So visit our Kickstarter page to watch the video, learn more and discover all the cool rewards your pledges could earn you!

Wow!! What a cool way to use Kickstarter. This might be the best use of the system that I've seen. Smile

It's like a list of custom ordered games that people can buy and support the digital version at the same time!! I wouldn't be surprised to see other companies try this same kind of thing in the future. Brilliant!! Cool

Why can't you guys make it available for android?
I'm not gonna buy an iPad or iPhone just for your games, but if they were on android available I would probably buy them all.
I got all the board games.
Even better would be if it was crossplatform and I could play with and against people with android and Apple versions.

We've heard you Wink

We've added a handful of updates on our our Small World 2 Kickstarter Campaign in the past few days...

Many of you have been asking for this: We unveiled our first Stretch Goal: Android Tablets and the Kindle Fire support when we reach $ 300,000.

Many of you asked for this one as well: Looks like Small World just became way bigger as we added the possibility for our fans outside of the USA to have the physical rewards shipped directly to their place!
Also make sure you read the details about the Designer Edition of Small World and you check our new "Royal" Bonus...

All of this in one place:

Although the designer edition is a great idea, 370$ is enough money to buy an Android tablet plus the corresponding app (This is why I have not decided which level to pledge for, yet.. Confused )

From the available box screenshots, it seems that in the Map and Money trays there is room for placing a pile of cards. Does this mean that there will be enough room in the box for placing the "Tales and Legends" cards in it ?

Meepletown: Is the Designer Edition going to have support or room for Tales & Legends, or the Leader tokens, or...?
Eric: It will have room, but it won't include those expansions. The focus is really on the base game, and the three expansions Cursed!, Grand Dames, and Be Not Afraid.

This answer to your question and to many other I suppose has been given in a recent interview on Meepletown...

A good read for all of you who need more information about our ongoing Small World 2 Campaign on Kickstarter:

Franck, this is great news and an extra point for the Designer Edition. I only hope that there will be enough room for fans like me that are using card sleeves for their Tales & Legends cards.

I hope the spot for the cards won't be that big or my box of cards will be banging around all over the place! Shocked Laughing

It seems that the "Encyclopedia of Races and Special Powers" is not part of the Designer's Box Sad

Why do you think that? Maybe that's what we're both thinking is the Tale and Legends box...looking at the new visual representation of the different material we can get, the Encyclopedia looks like it's part of the Designer's box! Very Happy

In the latest update in kickstarter (visual guide) the designer's edition box is alone in dragon master's level, while in flames' level the encyclopedia and the designer's box are two different things.

Ah, I see what you're saying and I think you're right...the Encyclopedia is not an automatic part of the Designer Box. This was clearly stated all-along in the Dragon Master Pledge Level where is says that none of the other physical awards are included.

Personally, I think the extra stuff is worth the $79 jump from Dragon Master to Flame level. Heck, if I don't want an extra set of the normal board game I could try to sell it online and make back some of my money, making it that much closer in total cost to the Dragon Master level. Very Happy

I'm a Flame Level pledge all the way!! Cool
