Invite to play not working on iPad

Very often if I invite a friend to play (using GameCenter list), my friend receives the invitation but the game does not start. My device just says waiting..
Anyone else have the same problem? Ideas?

I am having the exact same problem. Can someone address this please as it is getting a bit ridiculous only being able to play with strangers!
