Fusion Cup Scheduling Concerns Mon, 11 February 2013 16:47
It has come to the attention of the TD that there are potential scheduling problems in regards the TAG match portion of the Fusion Cup matches.
Already I am hearing rumblings that 2 of the matches may not be completed by the 17th.

Let me state, get these matches scheduled!

TAG is trickier to schedule since it involves 4 people. TAG is also the one match in Fusion Cup that allows duplicate players for any team. So, please figure out a solution.

IF, it appears a match cannot be scheduled within the time frame set for a given week, captains had better be ready to make a substitute. If a substitute for a player is necessary, inform the TD, and captain of the other team.

Matches which are not scheduled on time, with both parties at fault, will be ruled 0-0 with a loss counted for both teams. If it is deemed one team was clearly inflexible in its scheduling practice, the potential exists for a ruling of 1-0 in favor of the team that was clearly more flexible.

FINAL NOTE For all, attempts to set up a TAG schedule need to be done early when line-ups come out. Thus if there is a problem, substitutes can be found if that becomes necessary.

Due to the nature of TAG, and the note about scheduling difficulties, it may become necessary to have captains place 3 names in the TAG line-up. (Two players, and the one alternate if scheduling issues persist.)

This is not a ruling, merely a suggestion to Captains to be prepared or speak to your teammates about how you would proceed if scheduling issues for TAG come about.

Just a question if it happens to my team : could it be possible if scheduling problem, to substitute the 2 players ?
In our case, 2 german players instead of 2 french players (for communication and language problems Razz )

Indeed, that would be possible. The concern here is to get the games played in a timely fashion. Our desire is to have the games decided on the gameboard. But at the same time, we will not delay a tournament just due to scheduling difficulties.

Let me also state, I was asked about a delay for the one match of 7 days after the deadline. My answer there is, 'No, that is not appropriate.' Would it be fair to have a delay in the first session of 1 week, but when it comes to the last session, such a delay would be perilous. So any request for an extension beyond the last play date, should never be more than 1 day!

Understand, People need to work this out and find solutions appropriate to the whole community.

So obvious that TAG would be the most difficult to schedule.
I remember the idea of princess dea1 for the NC-final : fixed slots.
Imho captain 1 and captain 2 could/should try to find a slot to play TAG, before sending their line-ups.

If the captain is not one of the TAG players you just add another reason for delay for lineups. The best way to slow down scheduling is to add another person to the process.

Here's a different suggestion.
Every team sets their TAG teams for each week NOW and submits them to TD. TD publishes all TAG matches for RR. In fact, if there is an opportunity to play a match for a later week EARLY, that is better than late or not at all. If there must be substitutes later, then it goes to captains to approve.

That means we can work to schedule all TAG matches for round robin starting now. Won't help for this week, but may help for rest of tourney.

Any 'strategic' reason for not revealing a TAG team for the rest of the RR is moot when compared to the damage unscheduled TAG matches would have for the tourney.

My opinion, take it for what it is worth.

Other valuable option is to contact other players from day 1...

If you also make sure as a captain that your TAG players have a flexible schedule before sending your lineup, then there would be no problem either.

Like GFF mentioned, all my TAG teams are ready for Round Robin.
One of my teammate had a change of schedule for Round 2, and asked to be removed from the TAG lineup.

If teams have any concern over a TAG match in the Round Robin, use the Safe Exit option too ! Which is close to what GFF offers.

Safe exit
Once the schedule of Round Robin is released, if a team knows in advance that one of their players is not able to play in the time of a certain clash, they can ask for the TD's agreement to have that particular match played before the due time. It is the responsibility of the captain of that team to contact his/her peer to find an arrangement.

Captains have multiple responsibilities there :

*) Make sure your TAG team is available at realistic times (euro evenings, and weekends).
*) Make sure your TAG Team starts their schedule discussion as early as possible
*) Make sure to have a backup plan for any schedule problem.

When you use the tools offered + common sense + good communication, there should be no problem !

I think best thing is to begin to schedule when line-ups are published. Each team can now in advance their slots and offer them the first day.

Just move your butt...

No, I don't think so, because there are not only teams with experienced tag teams in our competition. So, they need some results, some attempts to find the best combinations.
But it's better not to nominate the best players for tag, nominate the most flexible players, then there will be no schedule problems. And if TDs rule strictly, there will be enough pressure to find tag dates. Very Happy

Re:Fusion Cup Scheduling Concerns Tue, 19 February 2013 17:13
We have come upon a situation where a ruling by the TD needs to occur concerning a TAG match between GURU-GP. The match was not played within the time frame of round 1. (including being given an extra day) (Some have asked why, since it is the first round, could they not have extra time? But Round 1 will be treated the same as all other rounds since no additional time is possible in round 5)

So given the following factors:

a. IF, it appears a match cannot be scheduled within the time frame set for a given week, captains had better be ready to make a substitute. If a substitute for a player is necessary, inform the TD, and captain of the other team.

b. Matches which are not scheduled on time, with both parties at fault, will be ruled 0-0 with a loss counted for both teams. If it is deemed one team was clearly inflexible in its scheduling practice, the potential exists for a ruling of 1-0 in favor of the team that was clearly more flexible.

AND NOTING THIS TOURNAMENT RULE> One given playing time should be at least during a "good" period for both players. Good times are at the evening (17:00-24:00 local time) and the morning (7:00-11:00 local time). At weekends good times are from 7:00 to 1:00 next day local time.

Therefore the TD will be giving a ruling of either 0-0 or 1-0 for this TAG match.
The TD is now trying to determine scheduling factors offered by both teams so a ruling can be made.

We're still trying to schedule it. The idea was (quoted loosely) to play with people you don't play with in NC, hence trying to get a good mix of people in teams. Myself brad and Patrick are hopeful to get a fixture this weekend, just waiting to hear from Horst.

I have about 5hours availability every day with brad that just doesn't work for Pat/Horst and they have a few hours availability every day but all of these are at times myself and Brad work.

We should get it done shortly. I thought it was reasonable to put myself with a US player in week 1 as there is plenty of time scheduling is tough. Both teams wish to keep the original lineups. Im not sure declaring the game 0-0 at this stage is in anyone's interests. Guru have already won the clash but we still want to play...

Also you'll notice I played RR2 tag today quite happily, no scheduling issues. Knock/pomme offered some morning slots as well as evenings, thanks for that guys... There hasn't been any sort of communication issues between me & Patrick, just incompatibility. I cant do most Euro evenings (should have 2-free per week). I haven't had one off for the last 9nights due to covering someone who is off sick at work, trust me I need one!. Drake and Vincent aren't keen on tag. It would have made no difference if I substituted brad>kasi or me>kasi as the same schedule conflicts arise. It's not a really critical game but both teams would be disappointed if it were declared null/void. Just please let us get on with it, we aren't affecting other teams/players by being a little late. Fair enough if we're keeping all the teams waiting for playoffs etc but that isn't the case.

IN consideration of completing RR 1, the TAG match between GURU-GP will be considered a score of 0-0.
The match was not played within the time frame of round 1, so this will be the standing result.

As a note to all players, please work to get your matches scheduled in time frame of a given week.

As TAG seems to bring about special scheduling concerns, perhaps next year rules and policies will be changed. But for this year, the policy is to get your matches played in the time frame allotted.
