I would prefer to see medals awarded for something more meaningful than being on the lucky or unlucky side of the roll of the dice.

How about medals for:

Wins at the following levels - 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 / and every 50 after that

Winning scenarios for the side with less than a 30% chance

Sweeping an opponent (winning both games of a match)

Defeating a higher ranked player

Most of the time heroic things happen by chance so it's good to have medals for good or bad luck.

Beyond that i totally agree with you that there should be more medals for over performing.

Also there is already a tread about new medal ideas, take a look there too tank commander!

This would be fine. Fully agree with you. So far I have a feeling, that most of the achievements is just about the luck. Especially those "Iron" badges. You cannot do anything about it to get those. Just have a luck. Mad

The Major Howard achievement was a surprise (to me) awarded at the same time as the 1st release of M44 online on June 6 2011.

The text of the award states "For outstanding contribution beyond the call of duty during Beta-testing."

As it was awarded for contributions during the beta testing period it isn't an award that you can earn.

In my case I was surprised, pleased, and proud to have been awarded the Major Howard.

All I had done was use my expertise as a software developer and tester do report, document and describe various bugs I found during the beta phase (which I still do with any current bugs).

After all we can't expect bugs to be fixed if we don't report them and the more accurate information we give when we report bugs the easier it is to repeat and fix them. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Not everyone knows they have to get Omaha or Arnhem the hard way to get Captain.

Not everyone who knows cares.

Not everyone who cares is willing to spend time and money trying.

I stil cannot play in (though support are being very helpful), so I might do some analysis)

The first 10 dice thrown against your INF.(and only inf.) should miss.

I write:

"The first 10 dice thrown against your INF.(and only inf.) should miss."

Where should be:

"The first 10 dice,(AFTER YOUR "UNIT TYPE" LAST CASUALTY OR START OF THE GAME) thrown against your "UNIT TYPE" should miss."

And as you already know Med./Mech. don't help at this,as well as that you need to endure 10 dice with no casualties against a type of unit not 10 dice against the same "squad".

That's all about Iron Army!

Re:Army of Iron club Mon, 02 April 2012 00:39
I have just played one game where I had pretty bad luck. I guess that my opponent was supposed to get Iron Infantry but he hasnt.
Its this game: http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=29 228458
I played for the Allies side. In the turn 6 I rolled at the end of my turn one flag. Then in my next turn (turn eight) Ive rolled tank + 2 flags, then 2 flags + star and finally 2 tanks + star. Thats in total 10 dices without a hit.
My guess is that he was supposed to get Iron Infantry award but he wasnt. Or am I wrong thinking that its awarded only if all the dices are rolled in one turn?

First thing that came up my mind was that your opponent already had it,but no,i checked.

Unfortunately that was my first and LAST thought Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes .
So the best thing to do is a bag report.

EDIT:100% that you don't need to do it in one turn.Mine took 4!

Your road is covered with blood and iron, things that will make an excellent story to tell us, and lots of scars to show us!

I don't know why I never noticed this before, but I've got all three "army of iron" medals.

Of course I do, because the only way you can earn these is to get lucky.

Which I've been known to do.

From time to time.

Not sure how to line them up next to each other though.

After looking at TheAmra's battle where he earned the Iron Tank he did run into a minefield and rolled a grenade taking 1 hit before 10 dice..
So either this is a bug or minefields do not count as dice rolled?

I thought I'd be getting my iron tank award today at Saverne Gap. My 1-fig armor took 10 shots with no hits. But on the last turn of the game it was killed with 2 dice.

So either it had to be full strength, or had to survive the battle?

Ok as I see it the rules say: ONE unit has to withstand 10 dice without any hits/figures getting destroyed.

Unfortunately in reality the computer counts ALL dice against ALL units of the type (infantry/armor/artillery). If the first 10 dice against one type of unit are misses (no hits, nothing destroyed) you get the iron award for that type of unit. If there is one hit among the first 10 dice you will not get the award.

I once had a infantry unit withstanding 13 dice without any loss and was not rewarded the Iron man award. But I have seen battles where the first ten dice against different infantries have given the lucky recipient the award.

Bug report sent in ages ago never heard a thing. (Sent reminders twice.).

actually, this might be the easiest bug to solve. They just have to modify the description of the award to make it match the code and that's that.
Who's to say that the error is in the game and not in the description of the award?

Indeed, minefiels are not considered "shots".

I've been through some of my stats on "red barricade" sometimes, to see if I'd been paricularly lucky/unlucky, and noticed that dice for minefields (and I guess it's the same for dice for iceskating) do not count.

I really think they should appear in the stats, however.

I do not think there is something obvious you are missing, but I do believe the programming of this award does not reflect the text it is accompanied by so in answer to your question I will quote myself (one of my hobbies Wink )

Looks I am an also a member of the Army of Iron Club!!

Iron Gun: 12-31-12, Battle for Hill 178, Axis, vs Brigadier Bonsey, Score 4-7

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=33 705349

Iron Tank: 01-13-13, Ponyri, Allies, vs 2nd Lt Unrealik163, Score 2-7

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=33 951972

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=39 156206

Apparently, the key to these achievements is to be on the losing side!! LOL!

1st 2 were within a month of each other and then that last one took over a year, obviously nothing one plans for, but just goes to show, easy come or easy go!!

I will wear my Badge of Honor proudly!!

I find it hard to call this an ACHIEVEMENT when it is merely the MISFORTUNATE dice rolls of your opponent that renders you this award. You do nothing... And so it is shear luck alone which grants this award to those who receive it. I think Dietrich stated it best.
