Things You Can (And Can't Do) in a Mk IV Panzer Sat, 02 March 2013 16:08
In the interests of research can any of you knowledgable folks help answer these puzzlers about the Mk IV panzer?

Could you load, aim and fire the cannon on your own with a fair chance of hitting your target?

Could you sleep on the floor? (Additional, if you could sleep on the floor could fit in three?)

How far could it go between fill ups?

Finally, anybody know a source for a good picture of the interior layout?

Thanks in advance.

Probably better in the M44 folder than online, and plenty of other resources out there.

But'll give it a go

Could you load, aim and fire the cannon on your own with a fair chance of hitting your target?

On the range, sure, but the rate of fire will not be too hot.

In combat, well, the Germans put three guys in the turret for a reason.

One to Command (At it's simpliest tell the driver where to go, and gunner what to shoot & coordinate with the other tanks of the unit)
One to Load
One to Shoot

Try to do all of those at once, and your efficency is going to go way down

French tanks suffered from having a one man turret, which means the Commander has to do all those jobs

Could you sleep on the floor? (Additional, if you could sleep on the floor could fit in three?)

Ideally you sleep outside, or you sleep in your seat if you can't get outside

How far could it go between fill ups?

City or highway?

A lot depends on how you are driving and on what surface.

Wikipedia gives 120 miles

You could probably get longer range than that if you are just driving outside combat, but you don't do that if you can avoid it because it is bad for the tank and the road surface.

Out of combat you load it onto a flat car, or a tank transporter if you have one

Finally, anybody know a source for a good picture of the interior layout?

Without knowing why you want to know and what you want to use it for I can't give a better answer to that than any standard search for images.

Mk IV Panzer

What exactly would be a "Mk IV Panzer"? I know Mark the Evangelist, Mark Anthony, Mark Twain and Mark Zuckerberg as well as the Deutsche Mark, Langemarck and the Ostmark, but the only tank I know is the Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausführung A-J. Laughing

Hmm...I think this has been marked against me.

Still, I've made my mark Razz

Thanks for the replies.

(PS Attempting to write novel. There's a tank in it. It's a German one. I'm not saying which..)

There is a Mark IV, but it is a tank, not a panzer. And it's British, not German. And it was WW1, not WW2. Very Happy
