Our group play SmallWorld for years every week, and to make the game more spicy, we added a few game MODES.

I hope these will get into the digital SmallWorld 2.
Until then, I wish everyone would try them.

1. The Races and Powers are divided between the players (and concealed from other players), and every time a player starts with a new race, he CHOOSES a combination of Race and Power from the personal pile he has.

2. The same, but every time a player starts with a new race, the player to his right chooses a combination for him.

3. All the Races and Powers are concealed, and every time a player starts with a new race, he gets a random combination.

4. The same, but every time a player starts he gets a Race and TWO Special Powers. To calculate the number of race tokens, use the lower one of the two Powers.

Personally, I like the standard way of playing! These sound like some interesting House Rules but I'm not very big on using house rules for my favorite games (Memoir '44 and Small World).

You could pledge at the $600 level in the Kickstarter to have a chance to create these modes for yourself and your group. Smile

This looks very interesting.
Especially option 1. I think we'll try it this weekend.

I think one of the Realms scenarios has a mechanic that works like your Mode 1.
I also think you Mode 3 sounds interesting to try...
I've seen the double special power variant several times, but the one that really stood out to me was one by player1304997. In his "Small World Hybrid" post he advocates playing a race using two special powers and two races with all the tokens of each. I've played a few of these games and I'm a convert!
