Trucker vs Sysy : 0 - 5

Still not sure it happened...

Game 1 :
Zur Buda Smol Ros ? vs Kob Erz Ber Mosva : 89 - 130

I let him have Ros Smolensk, I manage to get longest, 8er tunnel and 6er ferry. Always better with 8 white. Colors, tix and start for me...

Game 2 :
Cad Stock Mad Zurich vs Brest Pet War Smol. 98 - 127

He ends up playing 2 stations after some blocks.
Easier game for me.

Game 3 :
Brest Pet Am Wilno vs Buda Sofia London Wien : 98 - 100

I hope to face Ed Ath with such tickets.
He starts Frank Berlin, I play 6er tunnel, 4 Ber War. He goes to Danzig, then with my 8 locos I am able to claim the 8er tunnel, and the 6er ferry.
I have 3 white to play, I delay him in Paris, he has to play a station... I finish fairly fast and I complete Buda Sofia only.
Happy with my play : locos, and good inspirations...

Game 4 :
Cad Stock Fran Kob vs Kob Erz War Smol : 106-112

He starts 3 to Fran, me "Essen Kiev", then he 4 to Danzig
I take then the 8er tunnel. He 3 yellow Stock-Kob.
3er to Smol for me and made my way to Erz, while he connects to Petrograd and Cadiz. He has longest, but a station for him is enough for me.

Game 5 :
Sara Seba War Smol vs Kob Erz Brest Marseille : 111 - 113

He takes on the east quite fast taking 6 tunnel, 4 grey to Bucuresti, 4 to Khark and 4 to War.
Again I can take the 8er tunnel, then 4 bleu, 3 to Kob. I lay 4 white, and 4 to Erz.
I delay his loop for longest with 3 red to Smolensk -think it was the key move- and I complete Brest Marseille separatedly.

I may be confused between game 2 and 4, tickets being quite similar. (Cad Stock vs War Smol).

Details went my way when needed. For once, I made more good decisions than bad ones... and not many mistakes...

Thanks Sven.

Val - Lexx

5 - 4

Amazing games, with all needed in a classy fight: Bad luck, good luck, mean blocks and bluffs on both sides. Thx Lexx for the evening.

Chris vs. Drake 4-3 (1 tie)

First it looked like a quick match. Luck, tix and locos were clearly on my side and the games were that clear as the results:

1) 121-67
2) 131-97
3) 122-80

Then there was a tie ...

4) 127-127

... and afterwards the game turned into the full opposite with as few locos in all three games as I had before in each game.

5) 121-134
6) 77-121
7) 121-127

Last one was a real battle and I think quite balanced concerning tix and colours. I was lucky to get both 6ers and the 8er which was a risk as I was highly blockable but it turned out as the right decision.

8 ) 136-105

Thx Drake for the thrilling match.

Chris

Was a good match.

Game 1 I thought I was going to win from my tickets (Pal-Mos and something else decent), but got blind-sided and couldn't get into any of the key spots early enough.

Game 2 and 3 I forget except I had bad locos, tickets and/or colors and not much chance.

Game 4 we didn't get in each other's way as much and I had better tickets and like 7 locos, and longest I think, and was sure I was going to win, but he had 4 tix and it ended in a tie. That was the key game I needed to win it seems.

Game 5-7 I started to get a decent amount of locos, got into spots early enough and better tickets.

Game 8 - If I win game 4, I wouldn't need to be playing this game, but at least I have decent tickets, though going second playing against Pal-Mos is tough. It was Game Over however, after he got the 6er and then the 8er 1 turn before me, and finished it off with the other 6er. I had no chance even if he needed to lay 3 stations!

So far all my matches have gone to a final game, will see what happens in AMC and SMC.

EMC 2013 : Quarterfinal Result Sat, 04 May 2013 01:29
chrismmm_1987 vs Angel6

4:5

very stupid match of mine, 3 games I misplayed Twisted Evil

Nonetheless, I was lucky enough to get the much better tickets overall (lokos and tunnels were probably equal, I had 3 starts)
exactly 3 hours match time, I hope I didn't think too long Confused
In the last game, I was already so upset that didn't think at all - maybe this was the key to success Laughing

Re:EMC 2013 : Schedule and Results Mon, 06 May 2013 02:07
Ok, as Angel isn't going to add some facts to his post above (nor send me a PM), I just would like to add a few information to this quarterfinal match.

First games were not really exciting. One clear win for each of us. Afterwards it changed to a nice quarterfinal fight. Angel managed to get a break to 1-3 and 2-4 but with lot of volition, nice moves (Angel twice mentioned (early in the match) that I am a tough opponent and hard to play) and the needed luck I was able to tie to a 4-4.

Apparently Angel is not used to get these pressure in single championschips (sure, look at his fantastic individual results in SMC, EMC and SPWC in 2012 and 2013), otherwise I couldn't explain his behaviour afterwards. He was insulting (yes, really insulting - otherwise I wouldn't write this post) me as "stupid" and "annoying" and was complaining, that I am only and "always" (!) "praising and adulating" myself.

"Good start" into a final game, which have been a worthy quarterfinal fight up (or better to say before) to this point. Last but not least Angel congratulated me during the game for the match (I know, this is no offense and I am not blaming him for this, but it's not a good sportmanship from a Top Seed #1) even he was winning it at the end.

After all this left a really bad aftertaste of the whole match (which would have been a fantastic match otherwise despite of my loss) and I am still not sure why a vice-champion of EMC 2012, a champion of Euroleague 2013 and a Top-Seed of EMC 2013 needs this kind of behaviour to advance to the next round.

Angel, if this is your way of playing - go for it! Have fun with it and enjoy!
Anyway, good luck for the final.

Chris

P.S.: Yes tickets were mostly on Angels side and winning with Pal-Mos vs. Berlin-Moskva and Athin-Angora in the 9th match wasn't much of a miracle. (Even with Angels mistakes no chance for me)

P.S.S.: How did you manage to get only 3 starts in 9 games when we were playing with alternating starts?

Re:EMC 2013 : Schedule and Results Mon, 06 May 2013 13:06
Don't know if this is the right place, but Chris is right - I had 4 starts in our match Wink

For me there are 3 annoying things in TTR tournaments:
1) Scheduling problems. I'm happy they are seldom, I always try to send as many as possible playing dates and times as early as possible. Multi tourney are an absulte scheduling hell for me.
2) Slow play. I'm not a very fast player and I need my time to play decent standard, but an average of more than ~12 minutes per game annoys me and makes me play bad - that's a personal weakness.
3) Whining. Within the last months, several of my opponents in various tourneys lamented about their bad luck. We all know that T2R has an important luck factor, so there is no need at all to mention it. If a watcher writes about luck or the opposite, I'm fine with it. But a player (loser in that case) should be quiet and try to improve his game. I also don't want to read "gg" when I lose, because the other player can't jugde whether I was unlucky or playing bad. The "smallest" version of whining is "I couldn't do anything". This comment is a waste and very often wrong.

******************************************************

In this match I wrote Chris my possible playing times even before his previous match, to maximise my chances for his approval. Alas, as usual, he declined my Times and suggested others.
I gave in and agreed to Friday 10:30pm-1am, even though I normally never agree to play tourney after 11pm.

The match was slow, 20 minutes on average. It got after midnight, I was tired.
In game 5 I had 2 complete blackouts (first forgot to connect a City - used the two whites I needed otherwise, second I misclicked and connected the wrong city). I wasn't sure but Sysy told me that with normal play I'd have a win - I checked it and he was right. Normally, I do such mistakes very, very seldom.
I got more and more pissed, but I didn't play well at all. Two games I would have clearly won by normal play (#5 and #8), so 5:1 or 5:3 would have been normal.
Chris didn't whine, opposite to our EU league match (I won 6:1) where he did all the time, drawing all my fun out of this win.

At 4:4 Chris wrote something about "god is fair", where I just stupidly lost a quite easy game. At this point I wrote that I play nobody as reluctantly as him, and that he annoys me, listing some of my reasons above. (forgot the words but can't emagine that I wrote "stupid")

In the last game - it was already after 1am - I wasn't able to think clearly any more. I just layed what I had very quickly. It didn't look bad at all. In the very end, when Chris took open green and red, I realised that with 3 green (to Vienna) Chris would end the game and threaten to take longest with 1 red - connecting two parts of his route. Blocking the 1 red (costing me 4 points) would not have helped because then he would have so many track points that I would lose. So I wrote "grats" believing this was true. This was no tactics at all, nor did it influence the last 2 moves. At this points I wasn't annoyed any more, just tired and disappointed because I probably could have played the last one much better, too.

As it was, connecting for longest would have costed Chris a ticket, and by fulfilling Ber-Mos with 2x2, he couldn't avoid a very close loss.

Chris, you are wrong thinking I had much fun in this match. Even my 0:5 final vs MV last year was more like fun for me.
When you say this was a worthy QF fight, then you are mocking me. My standard of play wasn't good at all, and I know it was mainly luck why I won.

But I do want to apologize if I used inappropriate words - during our match or now - no offense meant!

In the future, I won't accept such bad playing times any more but rather resign from tourneys.
And imho we should propose some kind of chess clock to T2R, probably most of us don't like those endless matches...

Angel, first of all, thanks for your apology. This was important for me because yes, your words have been inappropriate (during the match, not in this post).

But let me just clarify two things as I hate it if you're publishing wrong statements here.

Quote:

At 4:4 Chris wrote something about "god is fair", where I just stupidly lost a quite easy game.

I was only joking and haven't wrote "god is fair" (sry, I am absolutely unreligious). This was with regard of my posts one or two games before. If I would have known that you're that kind of pissed (I hardly could realise as we were chatting the one or other text in the first games (while Angel was winning)) I wouldn't have typed that. Sorry about that if it bothered you, I really thought as a long-time member of this community you're used to that.

Quote:

Alas, as usual, he declined my Times and suggested others.

This is the biggest bip (call it whatsoever) I have ever heard.
1) Both of us have played many matches together. I never declined any of your times by purpose. (I can forward your own PMs to you if you need a proof - in most cases scheduling was done after 1 PM.)
2) You probably won't find any player who says that it's hard to schedule matches with me (besides the time zone difference but that's a thing all of us have to handle with)
3) Only cause you sent a PM with your times first (all of them (but 1) in my daily work time - great) this doesn't release you from finding a compromise. You declined my times 100% as well even I offered a lot more "better" times. Just to compare with facts (actually I hate quoting rules but apparently there is a need for that for some players ... ): you offered in total 1 + 2 hours "good playing time" (according to the SPWC rules), I offered 10 + 6 hours "good playing time". You wanna stick with your opinion? 3 compared with 16?
By the way, you offered Friday 10-12pm and when did we start? Correct, at your time 10:30pm! (Yes, and we played a bit longer into the night - kind of compromise.)

Seems to me there's nothing wrong with the statements, but just that you don't like to be held accountable for them.

My personal opinion: If you decide to live on an island and 90% of the tournament participants are from Europe, you're the one who needs to adjust. Same goes for US players. If 90% of your opponents are from Europe, you can't expect to "meet in the middle" by default.

"Sorry about that if it bothered you, I really thought as a long-time member of this community you're used to that."

You either say sorry or you don't. If you qualify it, it's not an apology.

Lucu vs Sysy : 5 - 4

Only 2 games were really close and interesting, we had each our chance.

I played very well in 3 games, average in 3 (him probably better in 2 of those 3), and bad in 2 (and him better in those 2). 4-4 was quite logical.
Not sure I could do anything in the last game unfortunately.

Grats Lucu, and good luck in final.

Re:EMC 2013 : Schedule and Results Tue, 14 May 2013 12:27
Lucullupus - Sysyphus

A little bit more to a really nice match:

1) My start, Kopenhagen-Erzurum + Venezia-Constantinopel vs. Frankfurt-Smolensk + Berlin-Bucuresti
Many locos for Sysy (I had only 2), so he got the 8 and also the 6 (Budapest-Kiew), while I had to play small steps in the west. No chance for me,109:122 and 0:1
2) Sysy Start, Stockholm-Wien + Kiew-Sochi vs. Berlin-Moskva + Kiew-Petrograd
Again only 2 locos for me, the 8 and 6 for him and a desaster for me, 076:114 and 0:2
3) My start, Palermo-Moskva + Berlin-Roma vs. 4 tickets! Lisboa-Danzig, Amsterdam-Pamplona, Madrid-Zürich + Zürich-Budapest
A brave, but maybe not the best decision from Sysy to keep all 4 tickets. Sysy got the 8 and made his tickets but I got both 6 and longest, so 128:123 and 1:2
4) Sysy start, Palermo-Moskva + Warszawa-Smolens vs. Berlin-Roma + Stockholm-Wien
Same story as game 3), I got both 6 and longest, Sysy got the 8 but no chance for him, 127:097 and 2:2
5) My start, Palermo-Moskva (I really love this ticket!) + Frankfurt-Smolensk vs. Brest-Petrograd, Amsterdam-Wilna + Berlin-Moskva
Very good tickets for both, but both 6 and longest for me (and surprise: no 8 for Sysy!) made life easy for me, 133:112 and 3:2
6) Sysy start, Cadiz-Stockholm + Paris-Wien (brrr!) vs. Brest-Petrograd + Berlin-Bucuresti
I got the 8, but Sysy could block me, so I needed a station and lost longest, well played, Sysy! 108:120 and 3:3
7) My start, Kopenhagen-Erzurum + Riga-Bucuresti vs. Palermo-Moskva + Stockholm-Wien
Few locos for me, Sysy got the 8, could block me and got longest. An excellent, but also dangerous play from him because he reached Palermo in his last move, terrific! 105:128 and 3:4
Cool Sysy start, Berlin-Moskva, Amsterdam-Wilna + Riga-Bucuresti vs. Brest-Petrograd + Marseille-Essen
Sysy got the 8, but I got the 6 (Budapest-Kiew) and 7 4-tracks. I could have blocked him (this time I had many locos), but I am a constructive player, no blocker Laughing Laughing Laughing ,still longest for me, 132:116 and 4:4
9) My start, Riga-Bucuresti and Smolensk-Rostov vs. Berlin-Roma + Paris-Zagrab
I decided to abstain from longest, got 9 locos, therefore the 8 and both 6-tracks - an easy win Very Happy 116:096 and 5:4 Very Happy
Starter won 5/9, Sysy took 5 times his big ticket, me 6 times. Palermo-Moskva won 4/4, clear best ticket in this match! Brest-Petrograd won 1/3, Kopenhagen-Erzurum 0/2, Lisboa-Danzig 0/1 and Cadiz-Stockholm 0/1 had a negative balance! So better abstain from big tickets??? Razz

Now we have an Austrian final - I hope, it will be more interesting for non Austrian spectators than Bayern München - Dortmund for the English hosts. Laughing Laughing Laughing

I didn't feel lucky with ticks, locos, colors or tunnels - but I was lucky to hit Lupus with almost every move - and that was very lucky indeed, because in some games I had to hope for him holding specific long tickets to give me a good chance Surprised

Sorry Lupo, this was my first match this year were I felt kind of brilliant (probably just another word for lucky because often brillancies turn out simply stupid Wink )

P.S. 2p ranking 2020 - never got this high. What's the record Question

P.P.S. just recalling my very first EMC round: At 1:3 vs lirex I was dead and burried; I fought 2 close ones back; at 3:3 he overlooked that he could have longest for sure and almost won without longest...

Schwen mentioned a 2030 and kid a 2028 in the forum.
I dont think of anyone else other White Train or Anu with a peak close to those scores.

Grats Angel for both titles, and grats Lupo for the final. Bummer I could not be on Angel's way in both tourneys.
I guess I was not worth the chance.

Sorry, spectators!
I had a very bad day, no complain about tickets, few locos, expensive tunnels or similar rubbish. Yes, Angel played well, but in the form of yesterday I would have lost against anyone of at least the top 100 europe map players. Why did'nt I play better? No idea, just could not focus on the match, had a leaden head, even without alcohol! No, I did not celebrate my birthday before... Razz
Probably I would have lost anyway, but so it was an easy win for Angel. Angel had an outstanding season, winning both leagues, SPWC and EMC, grats and hats off! Shocked
But you can see, how much luck you need in such a tournament. I could have lost my first match against MaximouR-Ginglet easily, won just 4:3 with much luck and Angel won his first match against Lirex 4:3 as well, so both finalists could have dropped out of the tournament in their first round!
However, I am very satisfied with this season, won both leagues (B in US, C in EU) and reached the EMC final. Cool And there are still two important ttr events: another league (first time in group A!) and especially the nations cup, where I am very proud to be a member of a nice and strong Austrian team. Cool

Re:EMC 2013 : Schedule FINAL Fri, 24 May 2013 15:45
What I wrote a few days ago is still true, more than ever.
I saw only the last game of the final.
Win for Angel without start (if I good remember), without longest and 0 tix points (only 1 tix accomplished +5 and -5) vs Brest-Petro and another one.
Looks unbelievable but each Angel's move was brilliant (big tracks, taking the route of your opponent to slow him down, fast finish, ...).
