Is it just me or is there currently no way to work towards a rating in Small World 2. Everything I can see is that there is no current rated game option. Let me know if I am wrong or if this is driving anyone else crazy.

To play a rated game you have to play the "Online with Buddies" option and turn on ranking. The quick-play mode doesn't give you ranking and neither does the Solo game.

Good luck! Cool

So, let me get this straight, we have to have a large friends list to get rank?

Technically you could get your rank while playing against the same 3 players, if you wanted to. But it's kind of fun having people you don't really know who you can play against. Here's a link to a thread where people are happy to be your buddies to play against:

This thread is in the "Kickstarters Only" forum, so I'll start one out in these general forums so everyone else can see them as well. If you can't see the thread, hopefully we'll have a big list of volunteers soon. Smile

I'm starting to worry that DoW has applied a board game mentality to a video game. I feel the purpose of a digital version of a board game is very divergent from the needs of the physical version.

In person getting along with the people is important to the experience. You want interaction with the other players. Having people to play with whose company you enjoy is a great part of the experience.

For a video game (which is what this is now) both of those things are not as important. Having access to a variety of people to play with, especially strangers, really helps a games longevity and community. Something else is the ability to test your skills and actually know where you stand, which leaderboards do well enough.

It seems like DoW wants to pull in a more casual crowd, people who are just playing to have fun. This group is historically fickle and are not all that likely to invest in the game long term outside of the occasional match with real life friends. That's fine, but it would only take another simple option to appease the group who are serious about the competitive aspect of Small World. It's this last group of people who are much more likely to invest in the game and help keep the community alive.

The only problem I can see with this is if DoW do not want to invest the time in programming a match making system. I kinda feel like that is a poor reason not to improve them game for the other side of the player base.

What simple option are you talking about here?

Sorry I conflated this thread with another discussion I guess. I was referring to rated quick play. That option wouldn't even need to be matched up with the normal ranked buddies play, it could be it's own playlist.

Yeah, I really don't understand why they bothered to build a ranking system for a multiplayer online platform game when the rankings don't apply to people you play against online...Like it's important for me to have bragging rights over my buddies, right here on my own tablet?
Confused
