Does anyone actually scarifice a Battle turn to seal-off caves with US Marines? Seems a high price / risk roll to pay. Perhaps closing off caves should be automatic when forgoing a Battle roll?

I have never in all my gameplay ever sealed off a cave versus engage in combat. Maybe if the scenario gave an objective medal for sealing off a set number of caves, then I might consider it.

You have confirmed my suspicions.

I've done it once as I had majority control on the right flank whereas my opponent had a lot of infantry on his right flank. I did it to give me an opportunity to grab an objective and keep him from quickly moving troops over to my right.

I still think it is a nice option to have and may come into play in certain circumstances. I think DOW was providing this element of play to allow SFTF creators to have the option of putting it in and in certain battles historically it was an important function. Nevertheless, while I am up to my neck in Japs trying to BANZAI! me on their bayonets, the last thing I think about is sealing off a cave.

Maybe it's the need to roll stars that puts people off. Perhaps it should be automatic if no Battle, like Engineers and mines?

I think I did it once on Iwo Jima the Real Thing to seal Mount Siribachi.

There was an SFTF scenario by the name of 4 villages where It is a good idea if you can to seal off caves and I have done so several times.
