I've completed 48 games with the SW2 app. Of those games, 33 (69%) were won by the player who was behind after 2 turns.

I'm surprised that the percentage is so high, but I shouldn't be. I've noticed that novice players tend to grab highly offensive combos to start the game and conquer as many regions as they can. They also tend to balk at spending coins to get the most valuable combos. Stronger players, by contrast, are more willing to invest time in developing combos that deliver value over the long term, and are more likely to spend coins to get those high-value combos.

Have other players noticed these patterns?

I've noticed that if you score big in the first round, the other players tend to gang up on you.

You're probably right. I was talking about 2-player - I don't often play with 3+ players.
