I first thought about following line-ups:
1. Will
2. Will
3. Will
4. Will

But I counted the matchs played by Tus in rounds 1-6:
Felix: 4
Carsten: 3
Elka : 4
Andrea : 3
Hajo : 3
Ur (Steve?) : 4
Thomas : 3

So, I was expecting other line-ups also.

Hopefully, we can meet again later Cool

AB v. TIC

AB solinsf 4 TIC U-31 2

Lots of locos and mostly good combinations for me, plus some good luck with a block that was intended to stop Sea-Ny but ended up stopping La-NY as well (and since I only scored 69 points, I needed both blocks to win). Thanks for the games & good luck in the rest of your matches.

Re:NC GROUP B: schedules and results Mon, 28 October 2013 08:53
WASA Olle Boll-TuS Tenniskasi 2,5:3,5

1. My start CAL-PHO, HEL-LA (MON-NO) 7 lokos

Well, looks as a good start. I begin with 6 yellow, Olof 6 white, me 4 blue SEA-CAL, Olof expected 6 orange, me 4+1 red to maintain the possibility, I have a biggie in the north. Olof 2 DUL-OMA, me 2 more blue to get 3 for PHOE-LA and again to give Olof the feeling for my biggie. He plays 6 red on grey, me 6 black, Olof 6 green. 6 red on grey? Doesn't look like middletix, although he played 6 green. But VAN-MON? Wouldn't he have played CAL-VAN then? He took my 6 green, so I decide to play 4+2 pink without having fear for my longest. 5 yellow from Olof, me 4 green, Olof VAN-CAL (ok, 20 cannot be enough for him even if his second is KAN-HOU), me 5 white, Olof 5 black, me 3 blue PHO-ELP, Olof 2 KAN-OKLA. He has SEA-NY (not done), KAN HOU, so my start with 6 yellow and 4 SEA-CAL was the decision.

71:122

2. LA-MI, SANF-ATL (PORT-NASH) 5 lokos

Good tix, even if I lost the decisive game against deveric with them. But the colours make me sweat. We both draw to 44, but I just get 3 black, 3 green, 5 red with 5 lokos, no chance for the direct way. Olof starts with 6 orange, me 3+3 black, Olof 6 green, me 5 yellow, hoping he doesn't start blocking! Olof 6 red on grey. Nice Smile, me 2 OKLA-LITTLEROCK. 5+1 white from him. Hm, Olof just played 1 loko, I fear, he has a biggie and throws all the 6er. I don't think, I have a chance to get longest, so I lay 6 of my 8 pink! Olof 5 black, me 3 green LITTLEROCK-NO, Olof 3 blue, me 3 pink, olof 2+1 yellow VAN-CAL!!!!! SHIT, 42???? Cruel against my good combi, cause it would make me chanceless. Me 6 red, Olof 4 CAL-HEL, me 5 blue, OLOF 4 CAL-SEA. We both have 30 for longest now, my block of 1 wouldn't help a lot. Me 5 white SANF-SLC, again 122 for me, but Olof SEA-VAN and he HAS 42 Sad

145:122

3. My start DUL-ELP, CAL-PHO (MON-NO) 5 lokos

Again nice tix. I get 5+1 orange, Olof 4 green! I just have 2 yellow, 1 lokos now, if I had more, I would play them. I draw, 6 white from Olof. Me 4 blue CAL-HEL, hoping for more yellow, but am sure, Olof will be faster. But I'm wrong, Olof doesn't seem to have yellows too. When I have 4 yellow and 4 lokos and Olof plays 6 red on grey, I play 4+2 yellow. Olof 4 SEA-CAL. Either Olof has a biggie, then my longest is sure, or he does not, I have to pay attention of a loop via SAULT-DUL-WINNI. Olof lays early the next 2 DENVER-SANTA. I just have 3 white, I am not sure, if Olof wants to block me there. I have 4 red, 5 pink, 5 black, 3 blue and 3 green. He made 6 moves till now, me only 3. I have several ways to connect after 5 white, to have one more, there are 2 open blue. So I go on with 3+2 white DENVER-PHO. Olof goes on laying, 6 black. Hm, no 6 black for me, grrrr, but no loop, no biggie for him, I can lay a pink 6er and connect via PORT, when I take those open 2 blue and overdrawing for 1 more loko. But first 3 green PHO-ELP, Olof SANTFE-ELP, now only having 4 of 11 in hand. Me 2 blue and 1 loko, Olof draws orange and yellow. I connect via SLC-PORT and add 5+1 pink, Olof 1 SEA-VAN and 3 pink VAN-CAL, there is no chance to get longest for him, I finish 4 black WINNI-DUL, he 4 orange to KAN, and I win against VAN-SF, SEA-LA

104:127

4. WINNI-LR, DUL-HOU (PORT-NASH) 4 lokos

Thought about 17+11, but without start, I think this combi is to risky. I get 7 green early and start with 5+1 orange, Olof 6 black. No risk, so 6 green. Both draw colours, Olof takes white and orange open and plays 3 pink LA-SANF. Me 5 yellow, not sure, but I think I needed 2 lokos. He 3 pink to HEL. Cause he took white and orange, I play 5+1 white. Olof 6 white on grey (HEY! Those 6 grey were mine!!!), me 4 of my 6 blue HEL-WINNI, what gives me good chances for longest Smile. I fear a biggie in the south, cause he didn't play reds ( I have just 3) and green. I wait long with my connection OKLA-DENVER, but Olof plays 5 orange, 3+1 blue HEL-CAL, me 2 DUL-OMA, Olof 4 CAL-SEA, me now my 4 red, Olof 6 yellow (upps he is fast now!!!), me 4 red, having 2 black and 2+1 green on hand for HOU-NO-LITTLEROCK, but Olof finishes in 9 with 6 red. I can just connect OKLA-LITTLEROCK. I see 3 tix on his route, 7, 8 and 9, 1 combi I win by 1, 1 is a tie, and 1 I lose by 1. Olof has 7+9, it's a tie. I can live with that without start and finish in 9 with my tix.

109:109

5. My start LA-NY, PORT-NASH (DUL-ELP) 4 lokos

Nice tix, although I don't like to discard DUL-ELP Smile. I early take open yellows to be able to play 9 of them and get 5+1 black, Olof 6 green, me 5 yellow, Olof 3 black ELP-PHO! Hm, blocking LA? Perhaps costs me longest. Me 2 of my 6 white OKLA-LITTLEROCK. We both draw, me a 3. pink. Olof 3 white PHO-LA! Me 3 pink to SANF. Olof 6 red!!! Really 20? However, 2 of my 3 reds block HOU-NO, either good for longest or an important block. Olof 2 DENVER SANTAFE. Uiii, he is slow. I take another white, so I have 5 again, and green, having now 5 of them, 2 more yellow, 3 lokos, 6 blue, 4 oranges and this single red. Perfect colours. Olof 4 pink OMA-DEN. Me 3 white. OLOF OMA-DUL. Me 2 NY-PITT, Olof blocks 2 NASH-ST.LOUIS, thinking I need the way with 5 green, but it was good to take those yellows, I connect 2+2 yellow. Olof 6 orange, me 6 blue, Olof draws a loko,
me 5 green and 4+1 orange, Olof 6 yellow and it's an easy win against SEA-LA, DUL-HOU

100:130

6. MON-NO, TO-MI (Van-SF) ? lokos

Olof has 3 tix against my good east. He starts with 6 yellow early, me 6 orange having a route finished in 10 in my head. Olof 6 black and 3 pink HEL-SLC. I can see, my colours won't give me a chance for my 44 in 10, cause I just have 3 pink, so I decide to start blocking. 3 Pink LA-SANF. Olof must think a while and tries LA-LASVEGAS! For me this move is the last chance, when I lay that, so I try to destroy HIS last chance, 2+1 orange LAS-VEGAS-SLC. Olof 3 DEN-SLC. Blocking 5 white with my 6 white is not the move I prefer now, but he plays DEN-SANTA, although I didn't block his 5 white. He saves them for 6 white? Does he perhaps need WINNI? so 6 white from me. Olof 6 white on grey. Now I have just the cards in my hand to make my tix. I play 2 TO-PITT, 1 NASH-ATL, 6 red, connect them, add 5 black and 3 MON-TO, but Olof plays SEA-CAL, connects his 6 black and plays 6 green, 4 CAL-HEL and wins easily with SEA-LA, HEL-LA, CAL-SLC

122:110

Nice games Olof, as usual, and we will have some more without NC, I'm sure.

Carsten

Great report of the game, Tenniskasi.
I wonder how you do it? Do you have a video camera pointed on the game en make the report afterwards, or a voice recorder?
Anyway, thx for the report, I didn't follow the match between Olef and you but now I have a idea of it!
Grats with you victory!

Thx downerd. As I'm almost the last, who does that, I wasn't sure anymore, if there's anybody interested.

No, no camera, no voice recorder, but I notice the tix, the result and the colours, the rest is easy. And by the way, to be honest, except in holidays, it's the only chance to practice my English, I learned at school 26 years ago. I don't use it in other situations Very Happy

I agree a little report is always nice!
I don't have as much time as I used to (having a family is bad for that Razz ), but still try to even just mention the tix and the scores and an odd little detail now and then.

If the players don't feel like reporting their matches ... maybe we can find "external reporters" for the KO phase?

Re: reporting on matches.

I've always been willing to report, but I was under the impression that many players do not want their actions reported on. Since I don't always know which players have a problem with it, I tend to write much less (and next to nothing if I feel my opponent doesn't really want much said).

It's one thing if it is a close match. It is another if one of the players has a bad day.

Personally, I'm happy to read the details if I have the time, just as I'm happy to write them (if I have the time). But, thought I'd mention that there could be another side to this.

Best,
Rob

I already wanted to write some report of my previous match against Tyrana but didn't find the time to do it...
I do this report because the match was very interesting in both tactic and mental aspects.
The screenshots are in the White forum posted by RFAD here (he also posted the caps from Daedin/Deveric in the same page) :

Some points about the overall match :
- Starter NEVER won any game
- Longest won in the first 3 games, not in the the last 3
- No LA-Chi, no Sea-NY
- We played over two hours
- PapiXulu and I had only one point of difference between our overall scores before the match, and the same difference after the match

I requested my captain to be selected against the CATs. It is my 3rd NC and the 3rd time the CATs are in the same group as my team during RR. I lost 1-3 against suburu in 2011, I lost 2-4 against pegaso in 2012 (in a very intense fight with a good draw from Pere on the last game), I wanted to play because I really enjoyed those previous games against spanish players and I wanted to do better ! PapiXulu is a player I didn't know anything about. My captain told me he's a seriously good player, I had to play my best yesterday...

Game 1 : Houston, we've had a problem

PapiXulu : LA-NY + Dal-NY
*Cromze : Van-Fe + Winni-Hous (+some minus at final draw)

I open 6 orange, Papi blacks. I still don't have all my colors for the center so I keep drawing. Papi plays the 2 Pit-NY. I consider my tickets and colors are too difficult to start blocking. I draw again and take a pink to play the 4 the next turn. Papi must have feel it and takes the 4 pinks. I respond with 4 green, knowing I will have to go to Houston by 4 red + 1. But 4 red is also in Papi's plan (Dallas ticket) so my 12 is blocked at middle-game.
The end is badly played by me, quite upset to be blocked I try to kill Papi's longest by playing 1 in Houston but didn't even realize his plan was a very nice loop with 4 red, 2 to OkC, 5 yellow and then join the 6 greens played before.
74-125. Grats.

Game 2 : Better tix, nice colors, longest : time for a break back

*PapiXulu : Cal-Pho + Chi-NO (+draw Cal-SL)
Cromze : Van-Fe + Sea-LA

Papi open 6 yellow after I took one open, me orange, then 5 white for him (good for me because white in the north is then safe), a call for the 6 black that I take. Papi then take 4 pink, me 4 green and we enter a draw phase to complete our hands.
I lay my north/south by playing the 2ers of Santa-Fe while my opponent plays fast moves (4 grey to Cal, 5 red, 6 green). I play 6 grey, then Papi guess my plan by 6 pink and plays To-SSM. Nice move but not enough : He won't have the longest and after that he must lay his 7 while I complete my tickets with longest despite of a final 5 pink out. Papi try a final draw with the need to find 18 points but only has a minus.
122-96. Yes ! Break back ok, I have my revenge on Van-Fe !

Game 3 : More extra turns please ! No ? Ok you win...

PapiXulu : Van-Mon + Sea-LA
*Cromze : LA-NY + Por-Pho (thrown Mon-Atl)

Not my favorite combo for sure, but it can be good if I am fast. Papi opens 6 orange. Not good for me but actually I would never have it (only 1 orange in my hand). I keep taking colors, Papi plays 6 yellow. I take the blacks.
Now my colors are weird : few pinks (3), few oranges (2), few whites (1) and tons of yellow, blue and red (7 each). And not a lot of locos (3). I complete my hand picking some white, orange and green while my opponents plays another game : he takes all the 6ers in the north... I have no good option, I'm too slow and just finish my tickets thanks to the start, but I would have needed one more turn to have a good route (I had the colors but Papi was too fast).
105-121. Very nice, too much for my hand.

This game was very hard to play, after the defeat I had the feeling that I had no chance to win. Re-thinking of my timing maybe there was a window for a win if I would have drawn less colors. Then I would have done my nice route and force my opponent to play a better longest so he would have been slower. Easy to tell now, during the game I though I could draw all my colors since I had the start, I didn't know my opponent would be that fast.

Game 4 : Break back again ?

*PapiXulu : Winni-Hous +Winni-LR (+draw Chi-NO)
Cromze : Van-Mon + Cal-Pho

Ok my turn to play Van-Mon. I love my combo without start, if the tickets are done quickly I can be fast and give up the longest.
Very good colors on my side. I open orange, him black. I play yellow, he plays green, so I take the 5 white to Phoenix, my 13 is already safe. Papi then plays 2x3 pinks, just exactly what I needed to draw some pinks and be safe at Montreal.
The end of the game is still on my behalf. Papi tries to slow me down with a nice 3er at Vancouver but my combo and colors are too strong even without longest. At the very end Papi take a moment to decide if he needs to draw. Only 2 to find : with Cal-SL it's a tie, with Hel-La he wins by one point. He finally draws and find nothing.
126-112, I can thank the god of tickets !

Game 5 : Woohoo 123 with east !... Wait what ???

PapiXulu : LA-NY + Por-Nash
*Cromze : Winni-Hous + To-Mia (thrown SSM-Nash)

It takes a moment to decide if I keep 2 or 3 tickets. I guess most of the time I would have kept 3 but I still had in mind the game 3, I couldn't take the risk to be slow with my start again. Even if I finally lost this 5th game I still don't regret that choice.
So Papi opens black, me orange. He plays 3 to San Francisco and we take some colors. I don't find enough red/green so I will have to pass by the east. I take 6 pink, him 6 blue, I play To-Pit and then he takes Pit-NY. Does he try to block me ? Surely not so he obviously has LA-NY. Well I am east, should I block ? Maybe but my colors are now perfect. I have 22 ticket points and I'm in good position for longest, I decide not to block, I continue playing 4 yellow. His response is 3 whites at Little Rock. I have the cards to play 5 green, that's very tempting. But it costs me 2 precious locos, it would totally kill my hand. Again I decide to be passive.
We both lay our tickets. I have 4x6 and longest, him 2x6 and a biggie done. I have a pink and a loco in hand, he has 6 cards in hand. My only obsession is to ensure the longest so I play the 1 to Dallas. He takes 6 grey.
Time to do some arithmetic. If he has the 2 bigs He wins by one point. Bip. Bip. Bip. I have only one ticket to find if I draw (Dul-Hous), I know I have to draw. I know I have to draw but I can't. Ego talks now. I do 123 with an east route, I have more 6ers, I can't loose because of a bad final draw. I prefer loosing by one point, I play my last card.
123-124. So tonight I'm bad with start.

Injustice is what I felt after this game. This game was the key of the match. Should have I blocked ? Maybe. But the reality is more cruel : I didn't play that bad except in my final move. I could have taken a pair and finish with a 3er and win by 1 point. I just realized that now while I write this report. I was too focused on my longest. I should have anticipated one turn before the end and do some arithmetic earlier. Zero mistake possible here and I did one.

Game 6 : My strategy ? No strategy

*PapiXulu : Den-Pit + Sea-LA
Cromze : Van-Fe (again !) + Chi-Fe (thrown SF-Atl)

I love my combo without start.
After we have drawn 34/36 cards, I have a very good hand : 6 locos, 6 blacks, 4 oranges, 4 yellows. I open orange, he answers white. Very good for me, I can try to oppress my opponent trying to take a 6er he needs. I take the yellows, he takes the blues and the 4er Cal-Hel while I draw some needed colors (lack of white and pink in my hand). He takes the 3er SF-LA, call for my 6 blacks still not played. I take them and while he lays his west tracks I can take the 6 grey to strengthen my aggressive play.
I finish quickly with an ugly route and 6 red after a quick counting to ensure a win even against a longest and LA-Chi. He even doesn't have time to draw because of the 1er to Seattle he has to play for his 9.
117-108. YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHH !!!

To conclude I'd say this was a very tough match with only interesting games and situations. The main key for me was probably the 5th game, maybe for my opponent it was game 6 (what would have happened if he had played something else than 6 white as first move ?). Reading this you may think we both made some mistakes, but actually I think we both did our best. A very harsh fight !
The mental dimension was also very important. I was always running after an equalization after defeats on my start. My mates and TGVs in the lobby were essentials not to sink into the defeat. Thx guys and... TA TA TA TAAAAAAMMMM !!!
And a big thanks to Marc, I really appreciated the games !
