Re:NC - RR12 - Schedules Mon, 11 November 2013 20:54
onyx puffin AMP vs WASA kostas was played on Monday, November 11.

Score was a 3-3 tie.

Each game the starter won.

I have some notes in case anyone wants to read about the games.
here is a synopsis from my view:

1. Cal-Phoe, LA-Chi vs Tor-Mia, Mon-NO
onyx had start and got longest. IN my thoughts, I needed to get the route done because that combo often wins especially if you can get 6s.
onyx 125-115

2. Sea-NY Den-Elp vs Port-Nash Tor-mia
kostas guessed correctly on Sea-NY, though one person mentioned I did not disguise it well either, and may have won if I do the 5 black before the 3 blue. He blocked very effectively and I was one turn from connecting sea-Ny anyway.
49-62 kostas win

3. LA-Chi, LA-MIa, vs. I did not see
game proceeded well, and when I connected the Mia at end game was in bag. I remember his tickets not too good.
onyx 127-101

4. Van-Mon, Ch-NO vs. LA-NY, Dul-Elp
Kostas surprised me by taking the open 2 orange with first play of the game. I then took 2 black open, hope to fake the 6 black, and I would need then 5 black anyway. He proceeded to then make sure he grabbed 6 black and 6 orange. I decided try for longest with Van-MOn thinking if I get enough points and longest I win. At end of game he does simple single block of Van-Sea, and that is difference in longest and he wins the game.
onyx 106-125 kostas

5. LA-MIa, Bos-Mia vs. Mon-Atl, NY-Atl
slow methodical game. kostas starts with 6 black. I figure, OK, got to go around. I proceed with LA-Chi thought. Lots of posturing. Kostas I think is trying a fake of LA-Mia, but I have it. So I wonder, he have small east or small west? Late in game, as I set up thought of connecting to mia, I take a red to help with the 6 red. He pops in the 6 red. Hmmmm, now change strategy make him think I have dul-Hou or Win-hou. I do what looks like blocking him from LA-NY, which I do consider he might have. So I sneak into Mia and take longest with with my last play of 4 pink. kostas draws finds nothing. so onyx 90-82

game 6. NO-Chi, Dul-Hou vs Hel=LA, Van-Sfe, Port-Phoe.
I see he has 3 tickets, I decide, my turn to block. He deftly goes up west coast, leaves me in the dust. 76-130 kostas.

(game 7 of needed for tie breaker) La-Chi, Win-Hou vs Dul-Hou, Den-Elp.
kostas does effective blocking, I still manage to connect LA-Chi, but not Win-Hou. I get longest but his points and no negative is the difference. 83-95 kostas

Sorry to Doc and CHAMP that I could not complete all 6 games in same session. It seemed to be a very close match so far... 3 of the games decided by 5 pts total!

Just to confirm since I did not before leaving at end of 5th game, Doc had start in 1st/3rd/5th so my start for 6th/final game.

So far start only wins 2/5 so not sure I really want it!

Update: ATN gnirlum with win in 6th game for 4-2 match victory. I may update with some more details later.

WASA-AMP
Geoff - GenuineFauxFarm
2 - 4

A good match between the two of us. Tickets weren't the best for either of us and plenty of good thinking games. Geoff is a great opponent - a pleasure to play against.

Game 1
Por-Pho/Hel-La (throw Den-Pit) vs Win-Hou/Dul-Hou
I took advantage of start and opened with 6 black and he countered with 6 green, but had to use 2 locos to do it. He followed with 6 orange and I countered with 4 pink to make connection a bit more interesting for him. He draws some colors and I play 6 yellow. He follows with 1 black for the North South connection and I land the 5 red. This forced 2 purple to Duluth and I can concentrate on a giant loop for longest. Geoff 112 GFF 120

Game 2
Dal-NY/Win-Hou vs SSM-Nash/Den-Elp
I got on board first with 6 yellow and he followed with 6 blue on gray, this is probably the response I was most afraid of. I respond with 6 white and he responds with 6 orange. At this point, I'm wondering why I started west with dal-ny, but I entered the game thinking it might be dropped. 4 black to Duluth followed by 6 pink from Geoff. I take 4 green and then we take time to reload colors. I play 4 red to okc and he plays 2 red to pit. He could have a big - and my window to try for dal-ny is closing. I play 2 white to NY as a block/attempt to connect to NY. He responds with 3 black to chi. Never mind. In the end, he plays two track sections and lets longest go and closes a bit quicker with 6 green. I don't have a chance to draw to make up for a dropped ticket. Geoff 100 GFF 86

Game 3
Por-Pho/Dul-Hou (Mtl-Atl) vs La-Chi/Chi-No + failed fiends
Was worried that I may have drawn colors too deep, but I do have start. As it is, he's on board first with 6 black, but forced to use 3 locos. I follow with 6 green. He follows with 5 yellow and I respond with 5 white and follow that with 6 orange and 1 black. He responds with 3 red to slk and 4 blue. We both play 3 pink -but mine's to Pho and his is to sf. And, he plays two to LR. so, he's pretty clear to go via - SF and around. I'm wondering if he's got bigger tickets and wishing the open colors were nicer. So I play 2 to Duluth and 4 black to connect while I hope he turns something over. He doesn't, but the draws are ok. He plays 3 green and I look at my 5 red, 4 yellow and 6 blue with 2 locos and wonder. Should I block? He could be running sf-atl. I don't and play 6 yellow and 1 red. He plays his 5 white to connect. I play 6 blue and he tries to fiend since it is clear I'm going to go out. I play 4 to cal with longest in the bag and he tries again. No fiends for Geoff. Geoff 52 GFF 121

Game 4
La-Chi/LA-NY (Win-Hou) vs Den-elp/Cal-Slk
This is dangerous. Small tickets in the west vs slow la-ny. He draws 2 black open to start the match and I have a mission in life. Be lucky enough to get to 6 black before he does.
I get there first and play 6 black with 1 loco. He plays 6 orange. I take a blue open and he follows with 6 blue. I take 6 green and hope he goes for the 2 to NO. He doesn't. He plays 3 yellow to Denver. I am now not sure what he's up to and get a bit more nervous. I secure 5 white for options to go mid country or South. He plays 1 pink to Seattle. I play 4 pink and he plays 6 gray. At this point, he appears to know where he wants to go. I have to decide if my track can compete. I play 4 blue and 2 gray to NO. And, pretty much from this point we don't have any tracks in common. The big tickets end up winning. Geoff 105 GFF 120

Game 5
Mtl-No/Win-Hou (Dal-NY) vs SSM-Okc/Chi-Fe
The game was won when Geoff put 6 yellow on gray and when I opted for 6 orange. In the end I have 6 pink and 5 black, he makes a move toward NY but doesn't need it. I force his use of 6 white and he also gets 4 white using 3 locos. We ran into each other alot and we both connected our tickets. Geoff gets longest because he makes me spend time sealing off NY. All that time there makes me wish I'd kept dal-ny too. Geoff ends the game with 6 black. Geoff 112 GFF 101

Game 6
KC-Hou/SSM-Nash (Tor-Mia) vs Dul-Elp/Chi-NO
First decision was whether to go east with two tickets that are not usually winners. I decide to not buy into an East pair this time. So, I intend to drop one. Bad news, I'm not getting the colors fast enough and Geoff starts quickly with 6 orange then 6 black... and I'm still not on the board. Next decision - go with 6 gray or well...you'll see. I opt for 6 yellow. He immediately takes 6 gray with yellow. I am happy to see this (sort of) - not happy he has the 6er, but happy he used yellow. At this point, I start springing the trap with 4 pink. He follows with 5 white and has played alot of colors and has many yet to draw. I get 4 green and the race for Geoff to connect is on. In the end, I keep him from connecting while dropping both tickets myself. I manage longest by 3 and barely keep the track points lead close enough so I can win. Geoff 76 GFF 78

Re:NC - RR12 - Schedules Wed, 13 November 2013 23:42
Mr Bean - Deveric 3 - 3

I started 1,3,5.

1) Den-Pitt + Dall-NY (not completed) vs Dul-Hou + Dul-Elp 106 - 81 Not sure what happened; Eric seemed extremely slow, because I was not terribly fast (I think) and didn't complete a ticket and still won by big margin.

2) LA-Hel + Chi-NO vs NY-Sea + Cal-SLC 119 - 116 Again surprised I got the chance in the end to grab 2 extra reds to get longest and 15 points against starter with big ticket. Eric must have had really bad colours, I guess.

3) LA-Mia (n.c.) + Port-Pho vs LA-Chi + Dul-Elp 97 - 103 He blocked Hou-NO and I still almost won, but he could match my 2 sixes in last 2 turns

4) Cal-Pho + Kan-Hou vs LA-NY + Dall-NY 116 - 124 Again I almost won except he could play Mon-SSM with 5 locos in last turn Shocked

5) Den-Elp + SSM-Okl vs Winn-LR + Sea-LA 115 - 104 My best combo of the evening (!!), but I still had to work hard to get longest.

6) LA-Mia + Kan-Hou (n.c) vs Den-Pitt + Sea-LA 113 - 118 I finished in 9 moves but still just not enough.

Thanks for the match, Eric.
For me the best I've played this NC (so far at least Rolling Eyes ) and I feel I would have beaten most opponents even though I never had a great combo, but he took his chances too.

Thanks to Team Cat for the games and good luck for further playoffs. It was nice to play against you and to see that you thought it could be necessary to nominate your best 4 players against us bloody newbies ... we took it as a compliment ... Smile
I am looking forward to seeing you challenging the Austrians in the quarterfinals ... Very Happy

That was NC this year for Team OmG - it was a pleasure to be part of this event and to be captain of this team.
Special thanks to two people outside of EU who encouraged me to found a new team ... great idea! Thumbs Up
Thanks on behalf of the whole team to all the people in charge organizing this tournament ... great job! Thumbs Up

We'll be back! Very Happy

Short summary of the games:

Cat-daedin - OmG schnupferl 3,0 : 3,0

0:1 (85:122)
Cal-Pho + Por-Nas + Start (Mon-NO discarded) vs Tor-Mia + LA-Mia
Nice Tics and a lot of locos gave Dominik and OmG a perfect start in the clash.

0:2 (79:106)
Mon-NO + Win-Hou vs Dul-ElP + LA-Chi + Start
Jordi tried to win finishing fast laying 6 6ers, but without fulfilling a tic it didn't work.

0:3 (110:120)
SF-Atl + Por-Nas + Start vs Van-SFe + Win-Hou (Bos-Mia discarded)
9 locos and 8 green were on Dominik's side - close thing, but Jordi had to draw at the end - didn't find a tic. What a start with 2 breaks ...

1:3 (108:65)
Por-Nas + Por-Pho + SF-Atl vs Van-SFe + Mon-Atl + Start (Dal-NY discarded)
Dominik finished against 15 waggons from Jordi - but without having a single tic (Dominik drew, but didn't find) there was no chance against Jordi's 47 ticpoints. It was like a Deja Vu of game 2, just the other way round ...

2:3 (125:111)
Sea-NY + Por-Nas + Start vs Tor-Mia + Bos-Mia
Nice track from Dominik in the east, but nevertheless he had to draw - didn't find anything again.

3:3 (117:113)
LA-Chi + Chi-SFe vs Hel-LA + Sea-LA + Start
Jordi played 6 black, 6 green and 6 orange on grey and via 5 white, purple and blue to Chi, Dominik 6 yellow, blue and orange, blocked the possible LA-Mia (Hou-NO), Jordi played 6 red and at the end it was a poker game (50/50) ... with Chi-SFe ist was Jordi's (and in sum a tie) ... with Den-ElP ist would have been the win for Dominik.

Cat-pegaso - OmG lirex 5,0 : 1,0

1:0 (103:80)
Cal-Pho + Mon-Atl (Dal-NY discarded) vs Por-Nas + Por-Pho + Start
Pere took 4 (of 7) locos to play 6 black early followed by 6 yellow and 5 white. Tim connected Nas (after 6 orange and 6 purple) from Tor with 7 black (2+2+3) but could not connect Pho.

2:0 (124:115)
Por-Pho + Den-ElP + Hel-LA + Start vs Win-Lr + Dul-ElP
Nearly same start by Pere ... early 6 black (32 cards) followed by 5 white, 4 purple and 6 yellow and lots of track points with 5 red, 5 orange and 6 blue. Tim built also a nice track (6 green, orange, white and blue on grey plus 5 yellow, another 4 green, red and white ... the key was that Pere was able to block longest laying 3 grey to SSM ...

3:0 (119:80)
Dul-ElP + Chi-NO vs Chi-SFe + SSM-Okl + Start
Pere found a better way to play his tics (6 green, 6 orange, 6 black) while Tim built 4 sixers (red on grey, yellow, purple and white), but also needed lots of short tracks around Kansas.

4:0 (114:94)
SSM-Okl + Kan-Hou + Start vs LA-Chi + SSM-Nas
Tim couldn't manage to connect Nash because Pere finished too fast (6 green, 6 black, 6 white, 5 yellow and red, 4 purple).

4:1 (42:60)
LA-Ny + LA-Mia + Den-Pit vs Mon-NO + Win-LR + Start
Blocking game - not a single tic was fulfilled and due Pere's three big tics a safe win for Tim.

5:1 (127:102)
LA-NY + SF-Atl + Start vs LA-Mia + NY-Atl
6 blacks for Pere at the beginning were crucial for Tim on his way to Miami (skipping NY-Atl) and let Pere easily connect his tics.

Cat-papiXulu - OmG tigergirl_1990 6,0 : 0,0

1:0 (97:81)
Chi-NO + Mon-NO vs Dul-Hou + Chi-SFe + Start
Papi's better solution for the 2 NO-Tics gave him the break ... Carina didn't connect SFe and found nothing when she drew at the end.

2:0 (125:111)
Por-Pho + Dul-Hou + Start vs Hel-LA + SSM-Okl
6 orange, 6 yellow and 5 white for Papi ... 6 black, 6 orange on grey and 6 purple for Carina at the beginning followed by 4 green, 4 red, 5 yellow, 4 blue to Cal and 6 white ... not bad but Papi could also play 6 green, 6 red, 6 blue and without getting blocked at Por or Hou he got longest.

3:0 (114:87)
Por-Pho + Sea-LA vs NY-Atl + Kan-Hou + Start
Nicer Tics, an undisturbed West-Route and longest for Papi gave him an easy win in this game.

4:0 (125:82)
LA-Chi + Dul-ElP + Start vs Dul-ElP + Cal-Pho
6 black and orange, 4 purple, 5 white, 4 blue, 3 red, 6 yellow, 3 more yellow to Pho, 5 green and 1 to Sea ... no chance for Carina there.

5:0 (141:130)
LA-Mia + Por-Nash vs Sea-NY + Win-LR + Start
Big-Tic-Game again with the better end for Papi, who was able to draw the missing red cards open to play 6 red to Mia and getting longest ... bitter to loose wit 130 points but quite typical on a day when nothing works.

6:0 (116:109)
Chi-NO + Por-Mia + Start vs Por-Pho + Por-Nas
Three 6ers (yellow, orange, purple) and lots of short tracks from Carina were again not enough against a 45-track from Papi.

Cat-suburu - OmG_Patrick09 4,0 : 2,0

1:0 (132:108)
Tor-Mia + Por-Nas (Den-ElP discarded) + Start vs LA-Mia + Hel-LA
Sara started with 6 orange, 6 yellow and 6 purple between Sea and Tor, while Patrick tried to go the southern way to Mia ... until Sara threw 6 red and 5 blue into his way (7 locos helped a bit) ... clear thing then.

1:1 (64:112)
LA-Mia (n.f.) + Kan-Hou (SSM-Nas discarded) vs Tor-Mia + NY-Atl
Just the other way round this time ... Patrick started 6 orange and 6 purple, Sara 6 black and 6 green and 2 white to Hou ... Patrick blocked Mia successful ... clear thing again.

2:1 (93:91)
Win-LR + Mon-NO (n.f.) (Den-Pit discarded) + Start vs Chi-SFe + Kan-Hou (n.f.)
Hard fight ... difficult tics and blocks on both sides ... both had to skip a tic and had nearly the same trackpoints. Longest was the decider at the end.

3:1 (120:107)
SSM-Okl + LA-NY (Bos-Mia discarded) vs Den-ElP + Kan-Hou (n.f.) + Start
Nice track from Patrick connecting from 6 green via 5 white, 4 purple, 5 red, 6 yellow, 4 grey to Cal, 6 white and 6 orange on grey ... the only problem was that there was only Den-ElP on his route ... maybe Sara was also surprised that she won this game.

4:1 (145:100)
Sea-NY + Van-Mon + Start vs LA-Mia + NY-Atl (n.f.)
Not much to say about that game - no chance at all.

4:2 (79:90)
Cal-SLC (n.f.) + Kan-Hou (n.f.) vs Sea-NY + LA-NY (n.f.)
Sara threw 6 orange, 6 white and 6 purple and tried to prevent Patrick from a big north tic ... he started 6 yellow, 6 purple on grey, 4 blue and 5 black ... Sara blocked Mon-NY, Bos-NY and Pit-Tor ... but Patrick still had 4 white and could connect.
