Praise For Winter Wars Thu, 21 November 2013 00:45
Hi Days Of Wonder and Memoir 44 Peeps: My boys and I now have most of the expansions. We just need some expansions for overlord and breakthrough missions and we will have everything.

Anyway...

We LOVE Winter Wars and the extra combat deck. That is SO very cool having other little tack on command options during play! PLEASE consider creating a deck like that for "general play", one for desert play, urban play, etc.

WE LOVE IT! Very Happy

PS We got this huge tackle box that holds all of our stuff really nicely. Will post some pics and and links soon. Smile

Hi, John --

I agree with you -- they put a lot of great stuff into the WW expansion.

There is an Urban Combat deck, in the Sword of Stalingrad battlemap expansion. (It has more attacking cards, and instead of Bitter Resistance allowing a unit to ignore a flag, its fallback command is Street Fight, which adds a die in certain close assaults.) It's great, too.

WW set is great indeed. The card deck, winter rules, roads, breakthrough.. Imo it's the expert set of memoir.

I am glad you discovered this great expansion. You and your sons should have many hours of fun sitting down to game with these scenarios.

My kids and I LOVE Memoir 44. In fact I recently had to invoke a rule that we only play Memoir 44 every other day...we were playing it literally every day. Wink On the off days they hunt through the scenarios finding what they want to play next. They have also started making their own scenarios using the free scenario creator software. It is teaching them a lot about using the computer and they are having a blast. They are only 9 and 11! Very cool. Smile For Christmas they want another base set, the breakthrough boards, and another W/D board for overlord/breakthrough. Very Happy

I will definitely have to look for the battle map with the urban cards... Smile

I agree that besides the existing winter and urban decks, desert and perhaps jungle fighting decks would be great additions to memoir! The winter and urban decks are indeed very, very cool!

I also agree that winter wars is one of the best expansions of the game. The very best one, IMHO, is the breathrough maps and scenarios. It just literally adds so much depth and options to memoir '44 (I always found it so frustrating that I could necver retreat my single figure units to somewhere out of reach of the enemy artillery. In BT scenarios, i usually can! Also "on the move" is great, in case a unit is stuck in place for turns on end because you just don't happen to have a crad for that particular section! (-;

But on the move has been added by winter wars, which contained the breakthrough command deck.

Thanks John. I saw your tackle box pictures and ordered a Plano 3700. It holds all my m44 and expansions. Great tip. Thanks again from rainy England!
