It is now 5-4 Allies this round. Only Vaillants vs. JJsJuggernaut left to play. Please let me know when you are scheduling the match so I can have the next round posted.

Also, if van Voort (I think it's his turn) can set the lineups it would be appreciated. The reserve unit decision can wait until you and Gheintze look over the next scenario.

Thanks

Everyone,

Since I haven't heard from Vaillants and JJs we will move on tho the next round. van Voort and Gheintze please confirm lineups. I will post next scenario today(Dec. 12th) so you can decide what reserve unit to use.

When Vaillants and JJs confirm their date I will switch back to Betio Island at that time.

The doorman from "The Wizard of Oz," with delusions of grandeur, and much more flatus than was visible in the movie.

Accessorizing with blue flags, instead of the red, would complement his sundress so much better.

Win for the Japonese in a really fun scenario ! 8-7

The Allies couldnot survice as soon as the get behind the Japonese lines. On their sides, the Japs used efficiently the caves to move quickly when the opponent expected the less.

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=39 016623

One of the most interesting scenario since the beginning of the tournament, great job !
Thank you to my opponent, who had a lot of patience to plan our match !

I am so sorry to leave it till today but here are the scores, we are tied again:

30-30

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30626174/M44%20Stuff/Schermafbeelding%202013-12-21%20om%2020.09.20.png

Three players have managed to win 5 out of 6 games, and I am proud to say two of them are allies! Cool

I ran out of neutral postcards, but will try to stay away form the front his time. As I am an allied player the postcard does tend to put the Axis in a somewhat less than positive perspective.

Support units that never even fire a shot in anger play a pivotal role in the success of any warring nation's armed forces. Airplane mechanics were among the foremost contributors to the war effort as they kept allied fighters and bombers functioning properly on an around the clock basis.

Artist P. Snyder salutes them in a postcard produced by the Gulfport Printing Co. in Mississippi, which was sold at Kessler Field in Biloxi and Gulfport Field, where aircraft mechanics were trained.

This postcard shows the odious and odorous trio: Tojo as a snake, Hitler as a rat, and Mussolini as a bug, with tails held by a wrench-wielding mechanic, a clothespin on his nose and a satisfied look on his face. Waxing poetic, he says, "The Axis stirs up quite a stench in seeking domination, but here I am, and here's my wrench to bring extermination."

Re:Results for Pacific Online Tournamnet Sat, 21 December 2013 20:55
But there is also good news and that is a first win in the next round for the Allies. I stormed Tarawa. Mouse versus Mad Brit, Général de brigade v Brigadier, Clorofila v Jeronimon, 6 v 8 medals.

Replay

Clorofila pincer moved, That is to say he moved forward his the right and left flank. Assault left, Assault right, general advance, pincer move, direct from HQ, Medics and Mechanics and a recon in force kept him fueled up to keep the pressure on on both flanks.

I treid to keep up with: counter attack, Move out, Direct from HQ. When the dust cleared he had taken the permanent medal next to the brand new Artillery that gheintze installed there, (And it is priceless.) and he had killed five infantries in the process. I on the other hand had killed six of him so the score was tied 6-6. All units on the board full strength except for my two armor units who both missed one tank.

I moved an infantry forward and shot two artillery shells at his armor unit and hit 2 for 2. (Note this detail, I feel it is crucial to the match.) Clorofila retreated the remaining lonely tank to a jungle hex instead of tot open ground on his baseline. I then tried to sang an infantry in the jungle on my right, but only wounded it and Clorofila retreated that one also. I then took a one shell pot shot at the tank in the jungle with my artillery and hit it. This made my percentage on armor 3-3 for 100%.

Clorofila was in trouble now, because I only needed to march on the airfield to get my last medal. So naturally he responded with a big push in the middle occupying the airport (Move Out the card). But three of my centre units ganged up on one japanese infantry and killed it in six dice. 8-6 game over.

A nice tense game which could have been even tenser if I wasn't so lucky on the armor.

The Rematch was even tenser. I started out on the left thinking I had enough cards to overpower there, but was stopped by Clorofila before getting to the permanent medal.

I then switched to my right even though I did not have enough cards to sustain a good attack there, but thinking the Japanese do better on the offensive. luckily I got some cards when I needed them but there also could not snag the permanent medal. Clorofila keeping ahead of me in the score until this moment. I then Assaulted in the middle and mover everyone forward and to mil left where I had gotten more cards (all probes) One infantry and one armor unit managed to tie the score 6-6 but then an Artillery Bombard rained down shells on two of my units that got killed and gave Clorofila the rematch win. 8-6

Did I say that that extra artillery is priceless Wink

Thanks for playing André, a pleasure as always. Hope to fight you soon again.

Two superb matches as always, Jeroen, I really enjoyed them! The rematch was almost epic Smile Congratulations for the win where it counted!
Another great scenario by Eric and as mentioned by Jeroen, that extra artillery that Geoff placed is priceless! Well done!

Andre, thank you for the kind words. I'm trying my best to make them fun.

I reviewed the replays and the extra artillery does give an edge to the Allies. Even so, both you guys came real close to winning as Axis. A very close and intense match. Even in medals.

Jeroen, before I read the text on your postcard I thought that was Pinocchio in an army uniform. They really came up with some strange ideas for postcards. They're almost laughable.

Woo hoo! An early lead for the Allies. I'm very glad that the arty is working out. I believe someone on the team suggested it, but I'm having trouble recalling the name right now. Smile

Geoff

Edit: Tank commander suggested adding an arty unit to one of the flanks. After practicing against Johnny I agreed and chose the left with the opportunity to move it to the middle section. Smile

Kudos to tank commander for suggesting it, and to you for choosing it. I was a bit doubtful of the value at first (since this is a night attack scenario), but experience is proving both of you right. It is an honor to serve with you both (as well as all of my other Allied teammates).

The Japanese are bound to go forward and towards the Artillery. One: being Japanese attacking seems a better strategy, two: there are those permanent medals on the shore that are really valuable for them. I know I sometimes placed my troops so that the Japanese could not reach them even even they did have a BEL. (Which I did have in the rematch and could have snagged me the victory if Clorofila had not taken me the turn before. Smile )

Another Allied win (my US come through with an 8 (29) to 5 (22) victory) here:

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=39 115974

The stats with my numbers listed first:

Shots 57 to 50
HIT OCT: vs INF 51 to 45 / vs TKS NA to 40 / TOTAL 51 TO 44

Vaillants Japanese made some progress on my left, right and in the center but in the end came up short. No beach medals were taken and the range jumped out to 3 on my first turn, although it stayed there for a while. I was a bit concerned with my cards with nada in the center but i did have INF ASSAULT.

Vaillants got in the first kill after playing the 2-2-2 card by bagging an infantry on the center-right jungle hex. I played CA and I bagged two infantry on my left, one with the aid of a rare armor overrun attack. A Japanese DHQ allowed the push to continue on my left and in the center. I used my INF ASSAULT to order 5 center infantry and took a chance sending two of them out from my lines to try and bag two weak infantry. I got one but missed the other. I did kill off another infantry in the center though. I lost my left tank to make it a 4 to 3 game in my favor. I then used my own DHQ to kill off an infantry near the beach on my right and a 2 fig center infantry hiding in the jungle which my Combat Eng found! Vaillants managed to kill off two of my weak infantry and it was a 6 to 5 game. But I then took the airfield and finished off a center 1 fig infantry to end matters.

Without that extra arty I doubt I would have held out on my left.

and just for fun we played the rematch:

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=39 116419#replay:turn=1

A US 8 (34) to 6 (27) win by Vaillants.

The stats with my numbers listed first:

Shots 65 to 74
HIT OCT: vs INF 41 to 46 / vs TKS 38 to 50 / ARTY 50 to NA
TOTAL 42 TO 46

In spite of it never reaching full daylight (range of 5) I could not take full advantage. My fire on the infantry was very spotty and thus I took too long in killing off units. Vaillants was very efficent at blasting my forward units off the board and more than a few times it made the difference in me getting an advantage. I did reach both the center and left Marine beaches and took out one arty. I just ended killing off the wrong one with the difference being a permanent medal never gained. The Marine right was never threatened. The Marines had two timely Counter Attacks (against MOVE OUT and CLOSE ASSAULT). A five order Marine TFH got off 19 shots. Even a Marine late game miscue (Vaillants mistook one of the Combat Eng as a Elite, could not save me. I had a late game 4d attack against a 2 fig infantry and only flagged that unit back. With the starting cards I may have played this one a little too aggressive but you never know when daylight will hit.

Re:Results for Pacific Online Tournamnet Thu, 26 December 2013 17:24
Met Buidheo this fine Boxing Day, for my neighbor to the North and came out on top, 8-6 for the ALLIES...full daylight did not arrive until turn 24 of 26 and thus my NIGHT VISION proved slightly better on the strength of a 102-76 dice advantage.

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=39 155110

Buidheo started strongly on his LEFT...made a push there, he opened with a 1-1-1 and then followed with a TFH and a DFHQ. We both resisted the initial push, mainly due to bad dice and each came out with with 1 kill, 1-1.

Still action on the LEFT, a BEL for him and a TFH of my own and action results in a 2-1 lead for him, but I follow with an ALL RIGHT and get 3 and 4-2 for me.

From this point or actually after his initial push...Buidheo had some card issues, mostly PROBES and RECONS and a few ATTACK cards...but nothing with which to mount a major attack and once his LEFT down to one unit...he moved over to his RIGHT and from the 1/2 point of the battle...I held a BARRAGE card waiting on daylight.

From here...I get the better of the dice and basically manage to always stay 1-2
medals ahead of him and crossing my fingers that daylight comes so that I can use my BARRAGE card!

He ties it at 6-6, after I miss by 1 fig of ending the game by killing his unit on the ALLIES objective and claiming 2 kills...I get another on his RIGHT, 7-6 and hope he doesn't kill 2 of mine before I can play BARRAGE, which I do after his misses on his attack and get final kill for an 8-6 victory.

Dice figures:

Allies 41-95 43% on INF, Axis 25-61 41%
Allies 1-7 14% on ARM, Axis 6-15 40%

Overall: Allies 42-102 41%, Axis 31-76 41%

I also won the rematch as AXIS, 8-6:

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=39 155596

While playing the rematch, I managed to capture a beach objective...at which point Buidheo asked if they were "permanent", I said yes and he mentioned he thought they were 'temporary". Unfortunate oversight and if he had known, then outcome might have been different and he no doubt might have approached things differently, especially with his BEL. Lucky for me!!

Thanks for the games Buidheo and good luck the rest of the way to all.

Congratulations Tony on your victory. Boyd is a great player.

Again, I want to mention that everyone please read the descriptions. I did make it clear in capital letters that the 3 objective beach hexes are PERMANENT. This scenario was play tested with that parameter. It's a shame that the battle didn't progress with that in mind.

Really, my fault. I need to read the rules. Anyway, it really didn't matter. My BEL was used to save a single and wipe out his armour, so it is fine. Tony played well, and I just didn't have it at the end. Good scenario.

Re:Results for Pacific Online Tournamnet Sat, 28 December 2013 21:36
SAC Gheintze, I am happy to report another Allied victory at Tarawa, Japanese Counterattack.

Summary:
JAParker vs. Droopy007
8-3 medals, 31-15 figures
Dice rolled 61-44
Hit percentages: Infantry 53%-44%; Armor 38%-18%; Artillery NA-NA; Overall 51%-34%

Replay here:
http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=39 196081#replay:turn=1

The Axis began by positioning their troops for a push against the Allied Right. Five Infantry participated in back-to-back Assaults on that flank, with an Allied Assault in between. The fighting was furious, but by the time the dust settled the Axis offensive had been blunted, and the Allies were up 4-1. (Turn 10)

At this point, the Axis pulled back and began repositioning. The Allies refused to come out of their defensive positions, but did reposition the Center Artillery, and took shots at scattered Axis units as the opportunity presented. On Turn 17 the Axis renewed the offensive on the Allied Right (using units from the Center). An Allied Firefight took out one of those units (an Armor) and damaged the other (an Infantry), as well as causing damage to a third Axis unit in the Center; 5-1 Allies. The damaged Axis Infantry then managed to take out the Allied Armor on the right, and threaten the Permanent Objective medal; 5-2 Allies. The Allies promptly eliminated that Infantry on the next turn; 6-2 Allies. The last Axis Infantry on that flank Banzai charged a 1-figure Allied Infantry in the woods, taking him out and once again threatening the Permanent Objective on that side; 6-3 Allies. The next turn (22) ended it, as an Allied Engineer unit in the Center made use of a BEL to eliminate a 2 figure Axis Infantry, and then claim the Airfield medal objective; 8-3 Allies.

We then did a "for fun" replay, which I also won:

JAParker vs. Droopy007
8-5 medals, 30-20 figures
Dice rolled 61-52
Hit percentages: Infantry 52%-41%; Armor 38%-17%; Artillery 33%-NA; Overall 49%-38%

Replay here:
http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=39 196571

Once again, I had better cards, and poor dice hampered Droopy007. Nevertheless, he maintained his poise throughout both matches. Thanks to him for two hard fought battles. As he said at the end (and I readily agreed), it is quite likely that the next time we meet the results will be quite different!

I still have yet to schedule my match this round, but I hope it will turn out better than my lackluster/downright shameful appearance so far....If only I was on the Japanese side I could commit Seppuku to reclaim my lost honor. Laughing Shocked Mad Crying or Very Sad Sad
I can say that lady luck seems to shine upon me with a twisted sense of humor, letting me see victory only to have it snatched away; but by very worthy opponents I might add.

I shall remedy my situation with the wise words of Yoda: "do or do not, there is no try", though I hope I will end up with "do" instead of "do not"... Smile Very Happy Smile

Unfortunately it is not good news I bear. Sad I was defeated by Kellogs_10 as his Japanese troops stormed the beaches and annihilated the allies. Final score was 8-5 AXIS. The defining moment was when a lone Japanese infantry figure charged the beach and killed my arty and took the permanent medal with a roll of 2 grenades and a star. My lack of center card kept me from responding to his push and a few turns later it was over.

replay: http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=39 256420

However I did win the rematch 8-4, but it seems I just can't pull out the wins that count... Sad Haha, but no matter, it's the fun of playing that counts! Happy New Year!

So In your match and rematch the Japanese won twice. A reverse of my match rematch where the Allies won twice.

Don't feel bad about it, I ran into Lucky the other day and we played a game on Tarawa. His Japanese took an arty and two permanent medals of me. Confused

Kellog_10,

Thanks for sharing this information with the community. Though I don't know much or any French, though I probably should learn the word for "defeat" since I get beat by a lot of bi-lingual Euro!

If nothing else, maybe find a pretty French translator to assist me!

Congrats on your victory!

Well I hate to say it but the Allies have lost another one. JayKay took me to the cleaners by an 8-6 score. Even though I rolled 73 dice to his 64 and the percentages were fairly even, 42% for me to 48% for Jim, his capture of one of the objectives proved decisive. I more than likely would have won on the next turn. Also, the extra artillery unit proved to be a liability as he eliminated it very early in the game. Jim played the game the only way the Axis can win, overwhelm one of the flanks and secure an objective. Congrats.

I should be playing Frostberg tomorrow morning. I don't think Antoi and lucky91 have played yet, either.

If I have been counting correctly, the Allies won the first 4 games played, followed by three wins for the Axis, leaving the current score for this round at 4-3 Allies.

So there are still 3 games pending.

Allied Victory : Dugrim 8 vs Artimon 4

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=39 356227

A tough battle on the Japanese right side. Japanese have attacked furiously but have been always countered with success by the GI's.

After that, a bloody central final assault of US army gives the victory to Dugrim.

Thanks to Dugrim for this nice game (and to Eric for this nice map)
