So unless I'm misunderstanding am I correct in assuming that holding two Syndicate cards you get 4 gold each time you take back your bids. Is this correct? I know you can't have more then two of the cards so it only makes logical sense but seems a bit overpowered.

Yes this is precisely explained on p.6 of the rules.
It's not as overpowered as you think though, as collecting more money without taking goods does not help you winning.

Well it does help you to win by allowing you to gain coins quickly you can either muscle others easily or save the coins for the last turn at which point then are a $1 a piece. Thanks for the answer!

I think you might be misunderstanding a little bit (because I had the same misunderstanding).

When you have two syndicates, you only get coins if someone outbids you and you withdraw your bid...having two Syndicates only allows you to abandon two ports that you were outbid in. For a while, I thought that every time I was outbid I got 4 coins for my two syndicates.

It turned out to be overpowered, until we figured out we were playing it wrong. Cool

Wow that makes so much more sense. I was just bidding 1 on every port I could to get outbid and make twice the profits of casino, but this makes way more sense. Did I miss this in the rule book? I usually don't miss stuff like that.

It's in the rule book, but I misread it the first time as well. I was doing the same kind of thing (racking up 4 coins for every port I was outbid on and getting 8 coins per turn). Then I would just overpower anyone I wanted to with my massive stack of coins and get the cargo I wanted!

It works much better (and is a lot more fun) when we play by the actual rules! Very Happy My wife doesn't like this game much, but it's one of my favorites!! Cool
