Tanks at Omaha Beach! Sun, 19 January 2014 13:00
Omaha is quite hard, i mean Allied Tanks cannot attack bunkers on the Cliff/Sea Bluff beacause of -1/-2 (Hills/Bunkers).... Plus they cannot raise upon the Cliffs to gain 1 dice shot Sad

What strategy for allies do you suggest?

Avoid to advance a bit in every section. Instead, try to play turn after turn in the same section. Therefor, use your tactics cards in the sections in which you also have section cards.

Michele, there's an important note in the rule book that many players overlook. When a unit is on a hex with both piece of terrain and an obstacle, you take the greater of the two die reductions -- you don't add them together. So a bunker on a hill is only -2d for tanks and only -1d for infantry.

Similarly, the number of flags that you may ignore doesn't add -- you just take the greater of the two. So if you add sandbags to an infantry in a bunker with Dig In, it can still ignore only 1 flag.

Strategies for winning Omaha as Allies will depend on your cards, and where you can mass your troops. If you get lucky with a Barrage or Air Power, one option is to try to get rid of an artillery.

BASE RULES p.16
Quote:

When an obstacle is on a Terrain hex, the Battle dice reductions of the two are not cumulative. The best protection is the only one that matters. For example, a bunker on a hill reduces the number of dice rolled by a tank attacking from a lower elevation by 2, not 2+1 (bunker protection is 2, hill is 1). Another example: a sandbag on a village does not add anything to the village protection (village defense is 2/1, sandbag defense is 1), though it does provide an additional feature: any unit in the village may ignore the first flag rolled against it, due to the sandbags.

FAQ p.5
Quote:

Q. If a Bunker is sitting on a Hill, do the terrain modifiers stack? Meaning that tanks are at -3 and Infantry -2 to shoot into the hex?
A. No. Battle dice terrain reductions in the same hex are not cumulative. The highest modifier is the only one that applies (so the Bunker on a Hill offers the same defense as the Bunker on a countryside hex).

I suggest playing it again with a couple Hobart's Funnies or Air Rules.
