New Memoir '44 D-Day Landings Battle Maps hit the beaches in June Thu, 20 March 2014 14:01
"You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you."
Dwight D. Eisenhower.

70 years after D-Day, and celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Memoir '44 game system, the D-Day Landings expansion commemorates the Normandy landings with six unique Battle Maps. The new Extended Breakthrough format introduced in this expansion is 23 hexes deep and offers battles on a scale and scope never seen before.

http://blog.daysofwonder.com/wp-content/dow-uploads/2014/04/M44-dday-01.jpg

The D-Day Landings maps include settings for: American Airborne, Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach. Each battle can be played individually or assembled with its neighboring scenarios for epic Double- and Triple-Map battles.

With enough players, you can even link all six Battle Maps together for the Ultimate D-Day Landing Experience, creating a giant board that recreates the entire Normandy coast! All 6 Battle Maps, plus new troop tokens for Supported Infantry & Supported Armor, and an English/French rulebook come encased in a cloth-bound Commemorative Briefing Folder for an expected retail price of $35/¤35.

http://blog.daysofwonder.com/wp-content/dow-uploads/2014/03/M44-dday-02.jpg

The operational date for the D-Day Landings is dependent on weather conditions and supply lines but expect to find yourself battling on the beaches of Normandy in June.

Deploy your troops, call in reinforcements, take control of enemy positions to secure your advance... and make sure that your friends are covering your flanks!

These certainly look impressive when they're all laid out ... I'm not sure I have a big enough table to lay all 6 maps out on tho ...

... linking two or three together sounds interesting .. Smile

Any chance we can get a close up look at the new Troop tokens for Supported Infantry and Supported
Armor ???

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/en/content/d-day/

note:

At least one original copy of Memoir'44 is required to play, as well as the Terrain Pack, Equipment Pack and Winter Wars expansions. (The Mediterranean Theater expansion is also recommended, though not required).

More copies of the base game or expansions are required if you want to play a Double, Triple or Six Map battle.

So an extra Base game per board?
For troop supply presumably?
How many decks of cards (and of which variety I wonder), per board used?

I don't really know THAT many players a)who would be available to play AND b) who are able to contribute towards the pieces, sadly

What's on the reverse side of the maps? Maybe that'll make it worth it.

Thanks DOW guys for keeping to your roots and emphasizing the historical June 6, 1944 landings.

I am sure I will play ALL the Breakthroughs singly and maybe even have a chance in the future for a combined Breaklord of two maps.
Looking to more good news in the months ahead.

Do you have a BT board (even a regular board will do)? Just get out your ruler or calculator. 6 x width and you can estimate depth from the pics, also you know instead of 17 deep you are now 23 hexes deep with some staggering of maps.

Well being lazy I wasn't going to do that, but you stimulated me to do it. Smile

One board will measure:

width: 70,6 centimeters (about 28 inches)
depth: 114 cm (about 45 inches)

Total map, all six layer out with the staggering:

width: 423 cm (about 14 feet)
depth: 151 cm (about 5 feet, almost 60 inches)

I wil go scout for (a) table(s) then. Wink

BreakLord is what we called 2 BreakThrough boards next to each other, making 26x17. These OverThrough are 2 deep maps together making 26x23. That makes BreakLord and OverThrough different.

Hello Bart,

however they call "OverThrough" playing 2 maps together.

Several game modes: Double-Map (OverThrough), Triple-Map and Ultimate Six-Map battles

Several of these larger maps. It might be the same thing, but I will wait until I see the rules for this OverThrough. We can't use these maps to make our own scenarios (unless they have something on their reverse side) so those will still be smaller Breakthrough boards together.

I don't think I've seen anyone comment yet on the variable number of medal places these D-Day Landing maps have.

When will we be able to order a set?

Could we buy one at the French Open?

Or will we be playing these maps on Saturday evening during the French Open? This sounds very plausible, in my opinion. And if so, yay, i'm all for it!

Keep up the good work!

With 6 maps of that size and only $35, I would bet they are paper.

Tide of Iron expansion pack 1 is cheaper than that (here at least) and is geomorphic with 12 double sided panels that give a gazillion combinations of maps without any need for additional hexes, so set up directly

I wish DoW would have looked into a similar system, modular map pieces that you could build random boards with, and implement some reasonably balanced rules for point building armies and/or drafting/randomly assigning forces.

Although geomorphic maps have the advantage of not having to place terrain tiles, each single map still has the same terrain setup, and that cannot be changed. I recall the Panzerblitz boards (three in the original AH game) and how you could setup them up in a number of ways according to the scenario you used. But Map A still had that same hill mass no matter how you turned it.

I guess that is why ASL kept on coming out with additional boards? I am not sure how many were mounted but you may have had to haul around a lot of heavy boards.

I prefer the board building via single terrain tiles for a truly random board setup-IMO.

Getting back to that Panzerbiltz game I bought over 40 yrs ago - I am still whizzed off that the big tank scenario in the box that covered Kursk left players short of T-34 counters (18 needed and only 12 in the game) so you had to use the T-34/85 counters to make up the difference. But there were plenty of truck and horse drawn wagon counters to go around Laughing

On another side note, in a miniatures mag article showed one player built 3d boards out of styrofoam modeled after the Panzerblitz boards and gamed out the scenarios with 1/285 armor and infantry. I followed that example and it sure gave a different view from those paper boards and cardboard counters.
