Western Front Tournament Logistics Fri, 28 March 2014 21:54
Well, we are about to begin our 4th online tournament. I am happy to report that we have 20 players in total. Before we start, there are a few things that need addressed. First, in this format we have an overall commander for each side. I have selected Tank Commander and Jeronimon to be the C in Cs. I hope you accept the promotion. They will select which side they will play and their team members. They can private message each other for the selection process. When the sides are set one or the other will select the 1st round matchups. It alternates from round to round. Also, they will select any reserve unit they may wish to use in the scenario. The 1st scenario will be posted once the sides are set.

The following are the reserve units for each side(placed on any baseline hex): 2 regular infantry, 2 special force infantry, and 2 regular armor. Remember, there are 10 scenarios in this tournament. Use your reserve units wisely.

The players who will be participating:

Tank Commander(C in C)
Jeronimon (C in C)
Kellogs_10
Lucky91
gonzalan
Artimon
Iron Gut Heath
Dugrim
JAParker
Michelecannone
clorofila
gheintze
JJ's Juggernaut
Quit2
Antoi
Junior72
JayKay2010
Buidheo
Droopy007
LooneyLlama

Everyone, please check this thread periodically for updates. Thanks.

I humbly accept this assignment. Thank you for the compliment.

For picking sides, I went for geographical accuracy. Tank Commander can order the Americans around. I will command the Axis forces!

TC and I will form the line-up in PM.

A lowly Colonel and I will be in charge of such fine officers of all ranks. I shall do my best to lead by example and at the front.

Good luck all.

TC,

A lowly Colonel perhaps, but thought of highly among the rank and file! You can lead by example, but it shall not have to be at the front rather you shall be flanked by those of us that will gladly follow you!!

Point the way to VICTORY!!

Status update: Tank Commander and myself are dividing the player, and we are over halfway there. Cool

I find it hard to pick players, if I pick you for my team, I deny myself the challenge of playing against you. Smile

So, if you end up on my team, I think you are a wonderfull player. But if you end up on the opposing team (let's call you the invading forces) I hold you in the greatest respect also. (But will of course do my best to utter destroy you on the field.)

Just a little more patience and we will announce the teams and the line-ups for the first round. It will be an honor serving with and against you in this tournament.

I am looking forward to a couple of months of fairplay fun on the field!

Well, you can always practice against your own team or foes that you don't play in a particular round! Shocked

Always plenty of us around!

Ok, I did not start this, but I will pick up the glove that is tossed me. Mad

In your team I count:
North America: Canada and the States (Rather heavy on the east coast I might add Wink ) and in Europe; England, Italy, France and Portugal.

In my team:
North America: Only the USA, but spread out over more timezones than our opponents. Smile
Europe: France, Italy (you did not see that one coming did you?), Belgium and the Netherlands. (yes I know rather heavy on France and the Netherlands)
Asia (What? Only two continents in your team, so I got it continentwise did I not!) Lebanon.

So As I see it, we tie on nations, I win on continents, and I got the biggest timezonespread. So while your guys are sleeping one of us is always on the lookout. When the Europeans are still sleeping and the Americans go to bed that's when our man from Asia lays waste to your careful plans and good intentions!

Dugrim and Iron Gut Heath add these cunning tactical advantages to my team.

Languages:
My team can accommodate everyone in your team to play at least one match against a native speaker of their mother tongue. Four of my team will have to deal with foreigners unable to speak our language. Very Happy

So in conclusion: if a bigger spread means a nicer team, than my team is unbeatable on many levels. Cool

Re:Western Front Tournament Logistics Tue, 01 April 2014 03:41
ATTENTION ALL COMMANDERS:

The Western Front Tournament is about to begin. Our first scenario is 'Resistance at Lille, The Saviors of Dunkirk', which is now up online. This heroic stand took place at the end of May 1940. Can the French and British troops withstand the onslaught of the Wehrmacht? Only time will tell. Tank Commander and Jeronimon will now make the lineups on this thread and will also let me know if they want to use any of their reserve units.

T.C. and Jeronimon, I have changed the reserve units to 2 infantry units of your choice, 2 special force infantry units and 2 regular armor units. I felt regular infantry units would be indecisive as a reserve unit. I didn't like using artillery as a reserve unit as I thought it might unbalance the scenario significantly. Again, they are placed on an open baseline hex. Please keep tabs on each other as to what you use.

Also, as far as these scenarios go, I tried to make them as even as possible. Cards and dice play a huge role in determining the outcome. I tried to make them interesting for you with the limitations on what works online. A lot of things I would like to incorporate is not allowed, thus making these scenarios more difficult to do. I did not take into account reserve units while writing these scenarios. Both T.C. and Jeronimon do not know any of the upcoming scenarios. They see them when you do.

T.C. and Jeronimon will make the lineups and declare their reserve unit on this thread. I have started another thread for the results of each round. There will be 10 rounds(scenarios).

I hope you enjoy the scenarios and let's have fun! Good Luck to all.

Eric

Wasn't that for the previous tournament? This season, that's quite far away from the front.

And Jeroen, your team is even better than you know:
When I play, my sons often join me to watch. Having 2 nationalities, they also represent the fabulous nation of Luxembourg.
Any nation with an army counting less than 1000 people (civilians working for the army included), yet still able to maintain it's sovereignty, must be a nation with great strategical skills.

Although I still think you should have left them Anton, so you'd have your own personal Dutch spy in the other team.

Re:Western Front Tournament Logistics Tue, 01 April 2014 22:34
As I have no open baseline hex, I have wisely decided not to use a reserve unit this battle. Wink

Eric, the description says: Place French Resistance badges on the Allied units. They are 3 figures. They represent the depleted French 1st Army, not resistance fighters. (Troops-1)

I got a nasty surprise when one of those infantries moved into town and started shooting at me. All my strategy went to hell in a handbasket. (Ok not all, but it wasn't good either)

My question: will they be played as French resistance (Nations card 1) or as regular depleted troops (Troops card 1)?

I don't care either way, as long as it's clear beforehand. Smile

Jeroen,

Yes, they play as French Resistance. I am limited to what I am able to do with the online rules and bugs. Anytime you see a French Resistance badge they will play as such. There are other scenarios with them. Some of the scenarios the units will have 4 figures. They will always play with French resistance rules.

Eric

Oh by the way, I have added the armor unit to the Allies. We are now able to start the 1st round.

Guys i will offline in 10 days as I am leaving for a long holiday trip to USA.

What option do we have since I am leaving on monday 14th?

I don't know if I will bring my lap with me (probably yes) and also If I do I think it's gonna be hard to fix appointment to play...

Let's find a solution to let me stay in the tournament 'cause I really want to!

So you leave on the 14th, when will you be back?

Don't worry too much about it, I think we can plan around it.
Maybe you will have to do some catching up when you get back or we will find something else.

A substitute seems a good idea since you have a 100% win score against us at the moment. Sad Laughing

Michele,

Enjoy your trip! Sure things will still be here once you get back, not uncommon for a round to last 3 weeks during these tournaments and with vacation/holiday season approaching on both sides of the pond.....

As Jeronimon said, we can work around your absence or maybe get a 1 round sub while you're gone.

Wim,

I didn't see that goekawar had asked to join. No, 22 players would be OK. Let's add Vercingetorix and goekawar to each team. Jeroen, you still will be playing me. I'll P.M. goekawar to see if he is still interested.

Jeroen, if both will play I am going to put VCX on the Axis to keep things moving.
