Is there any way to compensate last player? Sun, 25 May 2014 18:32
Got Europe a few weeks ago and enjoying it very much. However, I have noticed that whoever is last player is simply at a disadvantage since they get to draw cards last, claim routes last ect....(I probably noticed this because I play SW which does have a balancing factor for last player) I got 1912 and I guess with the depots, last gets to play their depot first but this is the only thing I have seen to make up for being last. Does anyone have any house rules to fix this?

Ticket to Ride, unlike Small World, has a totally secret element. Nobody knows where you're trying to go and you don't know where you're trying to go. The cards just keep cycling through and nobody knows what color you need.

In all the games I've played of Ticket to Ride I've never noticed any kind of disadvantage to being last... Smile

Netherlands gives each subsequent player 1 extra point (ie, in 4 player, 3, 2, 1, 0 for last through first) to offset the advantage the first player has because they can get important bridges earlier, but really, the other TTR games don't have any real advantage to them.
If you want to add a method, then absolutely, go for it, but in my opinion, as Ras said, tickets are secret, someone could take a route that has absolutely no relevance to you, and even if they did, they had no way of knowing.
