OverThrough Game Mode - Germans Reinforcements Sun, 06 July 2014 10:05
Hello,

last friday night we had our first D-Day Landings game. We chose OverThrough Game Mode with the Juno + Gold combination map.

One thing that we noticed during the game is the harsh run that those German reinforcements have to take to go from the rear of the battlefield to the beaches of Normandy. 23 hexes is a long, long way.

With almost no "On The Move" orders is hard to let them take part in the real battle.

Anyone else noticed this issue?

The roads are key - as it was historically. By removing the 'traffic jam' effect with bridges i.e. they now allow the road move bonus for an entire move on the road, then 4 hexes becomes the norm.

And the Flag reinforcement roll counting as an additional On the Move helps too.

Yea, as long as you roll FLAGS... Otherwise, the "traffic jam" in the vicinity of the Entry Markers is gonna be huge.

Sometimes it may be wise for the Axis player to pass on a Reinforcement unit and take a half-track figure if the roll makes it possible. Deploying the figure in a town hex near the front, may allow a unit that has taken losses to resupply. A half-track figure can also battle.

Thanks Richard - but aren't all reinforcements deplyed on an Entry Hex along the baseline? So you still have to move the half-track up the road to free-up the Entry Hex.

In the Rules half tracks are reinforced in towns.

I'll get the chance to put this tactic to work on Sunday as we aim to play at least 3 Neptune maps!
