Mainly sunny... Thu, 04 September 2003 01:33
I suspect the bits will be quite gorgeous if the bits to Mystery of the Abbey are to be any comparison.
The changes, in my opinion, aren't that drastic, but probably will encorporate some refreshing improvements to the original.
I'm not too sure about the horizontal progress bars on each player's mat though. Vertical bar graphs are always somehow easier to look at and more pleasing to the eye, and I feel this is the case here as well.
I hope the ships are nice looking. If they are anything like the pawns for Mystery of the Abbey, that'll be cool.
I'm surprised that the Blackbeard's Revenge variant isn't mentioned in the rules. We always play that after the ships have sailed to their respective islands, the person with the lowest fame rolls to see where his ship(s) shows up. Of course this brings more luck into the game, but it seems more realistic than Blackbeard just bumbling along from island to predictable island. Besides this game is a family game, full of groans and laughs...not a brain burning heavy game.
I'd be interested to see what other Piratenbucht owners think.

The _only_ reason we didn't put variants in such as Blackbeard's revenge(actually we couldn't resist Steve Weeks' Mutiny house rule Very Happy ) was due to our concern not to drown first time players into an overabundance of things to manage. Rolling Eyes
For the rest, I think you'll be happy with the ships Laughing

Bryan,

We're in the process of finishing up the new Pirate's Cove website, which should include some images of the ships. So you have to wait for just a little while longer.

(They are really cool by the way!) Cool

Actually, the ships are displayed in one of the pages of the corporate site (the game submission page). Here they are:

Nice, aren't they ?

Yeah!...those ships are most cool!!
How big are the cards used in this game? Are they roughly the same size as the German counterpart?
I always worry about dinging them, or spilling food and drink on them, so my cards in most of my games are protected in some way like card sleeves. My Mystery of the Abbey cards are all protected this way, as are my Fist of Dragonstone cards. If they're too small they may not work with the sleeves.I suppose if a trough of spaghetti fell on some of the cards, replacements could be ordered?? Rolling Eyes

The cards are the same size as the Piratenbucht cards, so it'll be difficult to use standard sleeves to protect them.

When we were planning production we discussed larger cards, but the board would get so crowded that they weren't practical.

Yes we should have replacement decks available for damaged cards. Although typically it's liquid damage rather than pasta sauce!
Very Happy
