  Multiplayer Ranking Top 12 Mon, 20 June 2005 15:18
It is not clear whether very different skills are needed for multiplayer games compared to 2-player games.
But it seems to be true that by playing multiplayer games it is somewhat more difficult to get to extremely high rankings.

So, to honor the courageous multiplayers, here are the current TOP 12 Very Happy :

1.) 1673 frunk
2.) 1654 pudding
3.) 1647 rondo
4.) 1641 msande75
5.) 1633 Harald1
6.) 1628 Angel345
7.) 1627 Sachenka
8.) 1625 Polarexpress
9.) 1615 Rogue
10.) 1614 Magge
11.) 1613 bubble
12.) 1603 Cosmo

During the last week, there were some changes in the multiplayer ranking.
frunk seems to be struggling at the moment, now being closely together in a pack with 3 other players.

Here are the current Top 12:
(last week's position and rank in brackets)

1.) 1661 pudding (2., 1654)
2.) 1661 frunk (1., 1673)
3.) 1660 Angel345 (6., 1628)
4.) 1656 msande75 (4., 1641)
5.) 1647 rondo (3., 1647)
6.) 1626 sachenka (7., 1627)
7.) 1623 bublle (11., 1613)
8.) 1623 Harald1 (5., 1633)
9.) 1622 Polarexpress (8., 1625)
10.) 1621 Professor (new)
11.) 1615 Rogue (9., 1615)
12.) 1608 Cosmo (12., 1603)

Congratulations to the new leader PUDDING !

P.S.: I'm hoping that sachenka, Polarexpress and Professor continue to play multiplayer games mainly, or else they will drop out of this list.

Sweet! Thanks for putting this together! I'm just disappointed I didn't make the top 10...

I wonder if we could organize a couple games for the top players, I've played very few games against the people on this list.

Re:Multiplayer Ranking Top 12 Mon, 04 July 2005 10:23
Last week there was a fight for the top between pudding (the leader of last week), Rogue (the 'whizz kid' of last week) and myself. Twisted Evil

Side by side, we went up beyond 1680, but suddenly Rogue had a bad phase and dropped far down. Confused

pudding was very successful, but played less than Angel345, so that I could take over the top. Cool

Here is the current Multiplayer-Ranking:
(last week's position and rank in brackets)

1.) 1692 Angel345 (3., 1660)
2.) 1682 pudding (1., 1661)
3.) 1661 frunk (2., 1661)
4.) 1647 rondo (5., 1647)
5.) 1644 msande75 (4., 1656)
6.) 1638 Rogue (11., 1615)
7.) 1623 bubble (7., 1623)
8.) 1622 Polarexpress (9., 1622)
9.) 1619 Harald1 (8., 1623)
10.) 1614 Professor (10., 1621)
11.) 1597 cosmo (12., 1608)
12.) 1589 sachenka (6., 1626)

The multiplayer list is great, thanks for this Angel345!

But how do you calculate this? Have you gone through all the top players' histories to determine who is a multiplayer gamer and who is not? Are the multiplayer gamers allowed to play 2 player games?

It would also be interesting to see how these players are ranked on the "normal" ranking list. Could you add these top multiplayers' normal ranking to the list also (for exaple with brackets after the multiplayer ranking). Like this:

1. [17]) 1692 Angel345 (3., 1660)

Yes, I browse through the top players history.

Ben Roimola wrote on Mon, 04 July 2005 12:26

I only take players that don't play 2 player games often, taking into account the last 2 or 3 pages of the history only.
There is no strikt rule for it, I take a look and decide.

Re:Multiplayer Ranking Top 12 Mon, 11 July 2005 11:26
Last week, pudding was able to raise his ranking to almost 1700 and so took over the top of the list - congratulations! Twisted Evil

Also, Rogue and Harald1 had a good week, raising their score by more than 20 points and climbing the ranking by 3 places each. Smile

frunk and Polarexpress dropped out of the list, because they didn't play in the last 15 days, and sachenka dropped down to 1570. Sad
In return, I may welcome 3 new players within the top 12: jansc, SatinDressedLady und mcquista. Razz

Here is the current ranking:
(in squared brackets the position in the open rankings,
in parenthesis the position and rank of last week)

1. [16] 1697 pudding (2., 1682)
2. [18] 1695 Angel345 (1., 1692)
3. [27] 1663 Rogue (6., 1638)
4. [28] 1660 msande75 (5., 1644)
5. [31] 1651 rondo (4., 1647)
6. [37] 1641 Harald1 (9., 1619)
7. [45] 1626 bubble (7., 1623)
8. [48] 1616 Professor (10., 1614)
9. [56] 1601 jansc (neu)
10. [66] 1588 SatinDressedLady (neu)
11. [67] 1586 mcquista (neu)
12. [68] 1586 cosmo (11., 1597)

Re:Multiplayer Ranking Top 12 Mon, 18 July 2005 10:14
Hi there,

here comes the last Sad ranking list of "players that manly play games with more than 2 players" for the time being.

I think that an ELO ranking of 1650 is quite easy to obtain and even 1700 is not a big challenge for a very good player. Cool

Alas, frunk and Rogue doesn't seem to play any more, pudding dropped far down, so there is no more excitement for me. Sad

Generally, at the top more and more 2-player games are played, probably in preparation for the Nations Cup (e.g. msande75).

Here are the current TOP 8 (it was too much of an effort for me to search the rankings far enough to find 12 "multiplayers"):

1. [13] 1705 Angel345 (2., 1695)
2. [25] 1663 Rogue (3., 1663)
3. [34] 1638 pudding (1., 1697)
4. [38] 1635 Harald1 (6., 1641)
5. [42] 1624 Polarexpress (hadn't played for 15 days)
6. [45] 1621 bubble (7., 1626)
7. [51] 1608 rondo (5., 1651)
8. [61] 1594 gil02 (new)

dear Angel

I have a question about the ranking of multiplayers, because since a week I play both ( 2 and 3er), and I think I am not the only one in the top100 doing that. How would you rank such players ??

how would you do your ranking system ?

thanks

Angel is on holidays. He come back on 3th September. I think he only count for the multiplayer ranklist Shocked when you play at least 70% 3,4,5 Players games.

Here's an updated ranking:

1. [9] 1748 Angel345
2. [20] 1699 BR 6/8III
3. [31] 1667 zammbrech
4. [49] 1632 rondo
5. [50] 1631 pudding
6. [53] 1627 bubble
7. [58] 1621 sauna
8. [62] 1615 Harald1
9. [72] 1602 Cosmo
10. [89] 1586 mcquista
11. [90] 1586 M_Vuorinen
12. [97] 1581 schwabu

My definition of multiplayer is playing more than half of your last 20 games with multiple opponents. (Although really you could use just about any definition of multiplayer and get the same results)

I see now, I have always wanted to have a seperate ranking. I guess I should buy a second card so I could use a multi player account just for 4 player games. This I assume is what Angel ^ and Angel345 has done. Rolling Eyes
Hmmm.... I wonder if my wife would go for that? Laughing Nah. she already thinks I spend too much time playing this game. So I play four player at home, where I can relax and take tickets a few times and work the routes for fun, not rank.

I am glad someone did this though. I just may get a 2nd account as my 4 player account. Thanks Angel Smile

Congrats to the 4 player people doing so well.

Well, I'm not listed but I will be tomorrow if Cosmo updates the list. I'm not listed only because I hadn't played in 15 days at the time.

If it doesn't bother you too much to play with me, I'd love to play against you sometime! I sometimes chat in the lobby (sometimes under my newish second account Rogue2) and I sure have seen you chatting in the lobby. I could pull your sleeve and drag you on to a 4er.

Hi again,

I also noticed that on the next multiplayer ranking (if one ever comes) Kotay too should be considered as a multiplayerer. Of hi's last 20 games 11 have been multiplayer, 22 of 40, 38/60, and 47/80. Although I also noticed that if Cosmo was to update the list regularly once a week on the same weekday, he should have already done that yesterday.

Well, if nobody else updates the list, maybe some day I'll take over. This is not a promise, just a possibility I was thinking about... Rolling Eyes Perhaps...

Is someone still doing this thread? I hope so. I think it is a good thing, especially since 4 player strategy is so different than 2 player. Making Tickets here means so much more.

...4 player strategy is so different than 2 player. Making Tickets here means so much more.

Funny, I wrote the same a few months ago and frunk (the best multiplayer back then) answered that 4 player is almost the same as 2 player.
Now I can tell you that 4 player really is 95% the same as 2 player. Very Happy

If anyone wants to go beyond 1700 as multiplayer, he has to end games within 30 rounds regularily, fulfilling 2 tickets + longest route + 90 points on the board. I am very sure that this is the only strategy that can work. Smile

Buying tickets is exactly as unattractive in 4 player as in 2 player. Shocked

The only slight difference is that in 4 player you often need to build your vital routes very early in the game. Very Happy

If anyone likes buying tickets AND winning I recomend playing against average or worse player only - even in a 5 player Europe game.

Re:Multiplayer Ranking Top 12 Sat, 15 October 2005 06:56
How do you end the game in 30 turns? That's the theoretical minimum -- 22 rounds of drawing cards + 8 builds, but I don't see how you can actually pull that off on a regular basis.

I aim to end every game in 12 builds or fewer and rarely take tickets. Although I don't try very hard for longest unless my tickets suck, and with small enough tickets will sometimes keep three or even draw tickets -- could be why I'm losing so many lately...

Sorry, I was on vacation. Glad to know someone is reading these! Here is the latest:

1. [5] 1764 Angel345
2. [17] 1695 sauna
3. [20] 1693 dea1
4. [31] 1669 Player17154
5. [40] 1655 zammbrech
6. [60] 1631 wlow
7. [64] 1626 Rogue
8. [89] 1605 Duffi
9. [106] 1590 rondo
10. [107] 1590 mcquista
11. [116] 1584 pudding
12. [126] 1577 jansc
13. [132] 1573 4gris
14. [146] 1563 MaxiJazz
15. [153] 1559 Donald&Daisy
16. [160] 1551 Logan6
17. [165] 1549 BingoIngo
18. [169] 1547 joki

20. [179] 1539 yoda
21. [197] 1533 Pedan
22. [198] 1533 robbradford

I'm thinking about relaxing the criteria a little bit, currently its 11 of your last 20 must be multiplayer, I was thinking something more like >30 opponents in your last 20 games. Thoughts?

How do you end the game in 30 turns? That's the theoretical minimum -- 22 rounds of drawing cards + 8 builds, but I don't see how you can actually pull that off on a regular basis.

I aim to end every game in 12 builds or fewer and rarely take tickets. Although I don't try very hard for longest unless my tickets suck, and with small enough tickets will sometimes keep three or even draw tickets -- could be why I'm losing so many lately...

Hi Cosmo,

you start with 4 cards and only need 44 to end the game - so only 20 rounds of drawing cards.
Laying 43 or 44 cards in 10 rounds is standard without being blocked, 9 rounds with a good route is excellent, 8 rounds without a good route is also possible.

Regards,
Michael

I'm thinking about relaxing the criteria a little bit, currently its 11 of your last 20 must be multiplayer, I was thinking something more like >30 opponents in your last 20 games. Thoughts?

Thank you for the list!

Please don't realy the criteria.
The question is where do the points come from.
Right now, if a player is very good at 2 player games he just needs to play 11 multiplayer games without losing too much and immediately leads your list - this is easy enough I think.

I still hope that DoW will provide a multiplayer ranking some day...

D'oh! Forgot all about that first four. Still, 10 builds + longest? I'm curious how often you actually pull that off. I probably only pull that off about every third game, 11 or 12 builds is more typical for me (and 13+ is usually a loss).

Game I played today I had LA-NY and Montreal-New Orleans, I'm not seeing a way to do better than 11 builds (LA-NO-NY-Montreal-Winnepeg). At least, none that seem likely, something like Montreal-Helena-Phoenix-LA-NO gets you 10 but with extremely little margin for error... (Gotta love those C-shaped routes, though) The ticket I didn't play was Boston-Miami; what route would you have done?

10 builds to finish the game with longest route is standard (plus 11th build of 1 or 2 in the last round). Only 9 builds + longest is difficult to reach.

This is a really bad ticket combination, what was your third thicket?
I would try for 6 black, 6 green, 2 grey, 6 red, 5 blue, 1 grey, 4 yellow, 2 white, 3 blue, 3 grey, 6 pink, closing the game in 11 rounds, 90 points on the board and a sure win almost).
There are various alternatives, but all less good.
I still don't like the ticket combination at all!

My other choice was Boston-Miami. I guess that + Montreal-New Orleans could be done in 10 -- Boston-Montreal-Helena-Oklahoma City-El Paso-Miami. Still seems like a pretty dicey route, though. What would you have taken?

Take only the Eastern ones or all 3 tickets, the Eastern ones combine well.
With only the Eastern tickets I would aim for 6 orange, 6 pink and 6 red, 5 black, 5 blue and 5 green. But it depends on what happens.

Thanks for the tip. I usually avoid East Coast routes like the plague, but perhaps it's time I gave them another shot...

D.I.S., Multi-Player Also, Nice To Meet You Fri, 28 October 2005 19:52
Hi Angel345 a.k.a. Angel6,

I still haven't figured out the exact criteria yet, what it must take to be in your score list of multi-players. But maybe that's because I really suck at math and can't count any further then 10. (That's how many fingers I have. O, wait... I have 11 toes too! Surprised )

Anyway, I really enjoy multi-player games. I like them even more than one on one matches, because so much crazy stuff happens when you play them. And I'm pretty good at them too. Last Battle Royal I played, everyone was blocking each other. It was insane! I loved it. (And still got the win. Proud )

But just take a look in my history. The first page will say it immediately... I play multi-player games. Triple Threat Matches (3 player), Battle Royals (4 player) as well as the dreaded Royal Rumbles (5 player).

So next time you come up with a new score list, think about me. I am your friend. Nod

And I would love to fight you someday soon in one of those crazy matches. Cool

See you!

D.I.S.
