The official "please print the switzerland map" petition thread . . .

I had a nice surprise waiting for me when I got home yesterday - the TTR Computer Game. After installing it, I went right to the Swiss map, and I was very impressed with how that board plays, along with the special rules and new cards.
I know the Swiss board is only available on the computer, but I would like to officially petition DOW to consider a TTR expansion run - just print the board and the destination tickets and tunnel cards. Everything else can be handled by what we have in our TTR or TTR:Europe games. Call it the "Ticket To Ride Switzerland Expansion." For those of us who play a lot of 2-player TTR (with our wives, significant others, or friends), this would be a great board to have around! You can easily make 20-30 bucks off of all of us TTR owners, I'm sure.
If you are with me, plase add a post indicating your support. Hopefully the folks at DOW will consider it!

TTR player and DOW addict since 2005

Well, they made the PC game, so they're kind of obligated to sell it. Of course, I'd support a Swiss board, but I wouldn't expect to see one for a looooong time, if at all.
By the way, instead of reprinting the mystery train expansion, how about they retire it and burn all the existing cards. Boy, that was a terrible idea.

I would love to have the Swiss map as a real game. I'd buy it, too and probably a couple of friends who said they would love to get a real board...

I'd pick up a Swiss board (even a fully boxed game if they were so inclined).
And I thought Mystery Train added some fun cards.

Well, if only 5-6 people vote for it, chances are probably slim, right?

I 100% would buy that Swiss board, and would love to see it as a full box stand alone. Of course Marklin is on its way, but still I would love to own that board.
I also second the comment this would be a great board to have for those of us who play a lot of two and three player on boards at home...
Another comment - does anyone think the online map could be a little cleaner looking? USA and Europe look great, but the Swiss map is my favorite to play, except it looks smaller and lower res than the other ones. Am I delusional or is that for real?

I take it you need a web card from the PC game to create a Swiss map game online? I've joined one, but when I create my own game the map isn't available.
Thanks,

Yes, the Swiss map can only be launched from the PC game (though you can invite other non-PC game owners to play along).

I want it all!
I want Marklin online and I want Switzerland for my game shelf.
I think DOW could make a significant amount of dollars printing boards and cards in a single package: Europe, Switzerland and Marklin with their cards and destination tix all together. Of course, that takes away from the marketability of making Switzerland only available online, thus potentially decreasing sales of the CD (sigh).
Maybe DOW would consider having Swiss destination tix and maps as printable jpg files on the CD...

I would buy the switzerland map, but it will be very nice from DoW if they give it for free if we already have the other 3 Ticket to Ride boardgames or if someone buy one of them on DoW's shop.
That's will be great!

You cannot create a Swiss game online.
You can only start it from the PC game.
So, it's not the web card that makes it possible, it's the game itself.

I'd buy a CH game.
Maybe they can create a new game as an PC game exclusive, and make CH a real game.

Add another person to the list...I'd say that about 80% of the games I play online are on the Switzerland map, it is the best one by far. Although now that I have Marklin it is a very close second.

I'd buy it! I would gladly wait a bit for them to release a two sided board with Switzerland and another country on the back! Please DOW, let us just buy the maps (two sided!) and the tickets!

I emailed DOW about the swiss map back in November 2005. Their response was "There is no plan at this time to do a release of the Swiss map in any hard version"..
So count me in on the petition!

That's how I printed my own "nearly zero cost" Switzerland map:
First at all looked for an open Switzerland game to "observe" at the on-line game web. You have to check for a newly created game.
When a Switzerland game is just created, enter and observe it. If you double-click on the board, you can zoom on a piece of the map. When you have a portion zoomed, press the print-screen key, and then get into Photoshop and paste it. You have to do it up to 6 times to get all the board.
Then, cut the pieces of board from the print-screen images and paste them on a new file and compose the map. You will get a 1700x1092 pixels map, at a resolution of 72ppp.
Then change the map size up to 120% and here you have a full map that can be printed in several sheets of paper to compose the entire map.
I did it in less than 1 hour and, belive me, I'm just a newbie using photoshop so anyone can do it.
Good luck

I forgot telling that for the cards, I had to be a bit more patient to draw my own set using Powerpoint. I got the list of destinations browsing this forum

Why not to take one print-screen shot of the whole board, crop the picture and scale it with Photoshop, GIMP or whatever program you are using? I've tried it and the resolution seems good enough for me that way. It takes about 5 minutes at max to get the job done.

If you have the game installed, the swiss gameboard (and all the tickets as well, actually) are installed on your PC as jpg files... You will have to search a little bit, but it will be better than a simple "Print-Screen".
But I definitely join the petition : I would buy the board if it where printed by DoW - but the board and tickets only (stop selling me 225 wagons and 144 cards I already own, just to change the board ).

no u didn't - i just get a little sassy sometimes. plus, if you read around in here a bit you'll see players always asking for free stuff, complaining about expansion pcks, wanting a three for two deal, or saying " i dont want it to be a full set cuz i dont want to pay full price, etc."
so... my point is I honestly would love to see a "deluxe" edition special release on the switzerland map. full box. full card set. extra expensive production. make it a collector's editon - seriously. real players would be proud to own it.
i appreciate that kind of stuff, especially in a board game i love so much, and extra especially when i see a majority of other respondants saying "please make it cheap!" i know people like getting a deal, but at a certain point i feel they are taking value out of the game.
its not a cheap game. its quality. that's all... sorry for the extra dose of sacasm on my last post

I am really glad you took the time to elaborate on this.
I agree with you on both things :
- DOW stands for quality, so if there is ever to be a Switzerland, it should be quality (somehow with a theme like Switzerland, it has to be, I realised while reading your post).
- My post sounds like "please make it cheap".
But that was not my intention.
IF (if) DOW makes it a special edition - super deluxe - gold - whatever Switzerland box, I would buy too.
My point was : I own already three huge boxes (TTR, TTRE, TTRM). I was not thinking about paying less, but about space (another huge box to find a place for, though on the other side it might be fun to find a space for such a box ) and about "save these trees, reuse and recycle".
So my appologies for sounding like a miserly guy looking for a free lunch

linael: cool - never thot of the recycling angle. maybe DOW could do a recycle program in addition to releasing the swiss map, such as send in your old small cards and tix from USA and get a "free" full size replacement set (of course you'd have to pay shipping and handling both ways). or same deal on any deck of overused tix and destinations.

I really like to see a switzerland map and would pick it up. Though it be even better as just the board and the destanation (sp) cards in a small box - and you use the pieces and train cards from Europe.
Maybe give a discount on the website to all those who have purchased 2 or more of the other TTR games (maybe they can do this by you entering in the webcodes).
At any rate - i be intrested in the Swiss map.
