I lost 3:4 against maia03. Grats well done!

The 5th game (3:1) was the turning-point of the game! It was a tie possible during the game, but in the end i realized, that ssm-okla counts with 9 instead of 8, and because of that she would have had one point more than me. I drew ticks and found nothing, this costs me all my self-consciousness and the next two games i played like a brainless idiot. Nevertheless, it was great playing of you maia03, i wish you good luck for the next games! Smile

cheers

Masimo is now up 3-1.

He won Game 3 going first with Por-Phoe and Win-Hou. I had Ssm-Okla and Sea-LA.

I won Game 4 going first with SF-Atl and Chic-NO. He had Cal-Slc and Tor-Mia.

I think it would be fair to add, that today I was the luckier one, i.e. I had approximately 7-8 locos in each game, and got bad tickets only once in all games, which didn't make it easier for sebbo (and honestly I think he was the better player today, even as a brainless idiot Razz ).

Anyways thanks for the games sebbo, it was a pleasure Smile

Masimo won 4-2.

Game 5, I won, he went first with Sea-NY and Chic-Sfe. I had Por-Phoe and LA-Miami. Can't believe I won this one after he blocked the 6 red.

Game 6, Masimo won, I went first with Sea-LA and Van-Sfe. He had Dul-Elp, Mon-NO and Tor-Mia. I cannot believe I lost this game.

Well done Masimo. Good luck.

Why are so many tops out? Wed, 24 May 2006 14:40
Hi

Very interesting the tournament so far. But we lost so many top players in the first 2 rounds, i wonder why? After the Quick Tournaments i thought that is normal for a single elimination tourney, because we can't deny there is an element of luck in this game ....

But now we have BEST of SEVEN, even more than in NC (and in NC we had a lot of losses for the tops too!) and still so many surprises.

Maybe it is no great surprise? I think the 1600-1700 players are getting stronger any minute and there are a lot of players who play only with 80% force in the daily games (they are not underrated, but i think the whole TOP 20 is OVERRATED). But in a tournament these players concentrate and play 100% and then the tops underestimates them maybe too....

Why is the TOP 20 overrated? Look at the points distribution, the normal maximum should be 1750 or so. But most of the times some tops have a winning streak and with playing only against each other the points of the top 20 stay high.

Really don't know the answer, opinions?

bye, erps

Edit

Look at how many upsets there are in the NCAA tournament (college basketball in USA). And yet, usually a top team ends up winning the thing. The same will probably be the case here. My pick is Kotay.

Re:New Best of 7 Tournament Wed, 24 May 2006 23:41
So, we played our games tonight, final result :

The Train [0:4] Elric

Game 1:
Train: KC-Hou (missed), Win-LR
Elric: Van-Mtl (missed), Sea-NY (!!) - first
A big "trash game" around New-York ! I finished by connect, but lost Montreal in the way... and kept the longest that made me win... so close ! Train was very very disappointed for this 1 point less, and said : Twisted Evil
longest : Elric
83-82 Elric

Game 2:
Train: Den-Pitts (missed), Sea-NY - first
Elric: LA-Mia, Den-ElP
He was on the North, I was on the South... but Train choosed to (also !) block me Miami : 6 red, 5 blue, etc... I finished by going thru Pittsburg... but maybe it was too much : so big and good tix + hard blocking Rolling Eyes
longest : Elric
108-98 Elric

Game 3:
Train: KC-Hou (missed), Dul-Hou
Elric: Por-Phe, SSM-OK - first
I took first the strategic 6x that I needed, and that decided for the next... Train tried a 'ghost' block over NY, but that wasn't my destination Razz
longest : Elric
117-79 Elric

Game 4:
Train: Mtl-Atl (missed), Tor-Mia - first
Elric: Den-ElP, Dul-ElP
Classic "East vs West" ! Train couldn't do quite anything, I was faster than he was, and made him lose his second tix... No fright for me in this game Cool
longest : Elric
119-87 Elric

About who started ? Tie, 2 each one !

About the locos ? I never had more than 4 locos Shocked (4, 4, 3 and 4 !)... the result isn't so bad for me Wink... but I have to say that it was much compensated by not so bad colors, and good combos of tix !

Thanks again for all the "grats" and the many supports of the frenchies Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Still happy to continue this great Tournament Razz

Elric.

Erps - Goan 1-1 (+ one draw). Audience complained about our tempo. Goan now Number-One in slow-player-ranking Embarassed . Erps second. Anu out of top-10 (every game is rated in this ranking).

First game, took 25 minutes or so. I only remembered that I had SF-Atlanta and ChI-NO and that Erps refused to play the vital colors. A logical (...) draw. 0-0.

Second Game. 15 minutes. Erps played very well. I did not. 1-0.

Third Game. 10 Minutes. I had easy tickets. Erps did not. 1-1.

Sunday we hope to finish it.

Final tprail - masimo 4-3 (with 1 tie)

I did not keep track of all the relevant stats (tickets, who started, etc) but there were lots of observers.

Wednesday
Game 1 - masimo
Game 2 - tprail
Game 3 - tprail

Saturday
Game 4 - masimo
Game 5 - tprail
Game 6 - masimo
Game 7 - TIE
Game 8 - tprail

Bottom line, I seemed to get more than my share of locos today yet every game was close - masimo was a worthy opponent and the match could have easily gone the other way.

Hope you make it all the way to the final tprail - go go go go

Hmmm, as often as i count, i count only a maximium of 19 overrated players in the TOP 20. And that for over a year now. But i think thats just a small exception of Erps brilliant theory.

I do not like the game.

Saturday :

Game 4: I had Nice middle Tickets. Erps had LA-NY. Easy win for me (2-1) Razz

Game 5: I had POR-NAS and NY-ATL. Erps Middle Tickets. I still do not understand why Erps let me have the longest (3-1) Smile Confused

(updated) Now I understand: Erps did not have the Middle Tickets..

Sunday :

Game 6: Again POR-NAS. With SSM-NAS. Not a chance. Maybe I should have block Montreal but not easy with such expensive Tickets and only one joker (3-2) Sad

Game 7: Guess what: POR-NAS, this time with DEN-PIT. Also not a chance (3-3) Sad

Game 8: VAN-SFE and DUL-ELP. Not the best but relatively good compared with the last 3 times. And I made the mistake to block with 5 red to lose the fight of the longest (3-4) Bah Embarassed Sad

But :

It was very nice to play against Erps. And he certainly deserved the victory.

Of course Smile Just kidding, tough games against you! I enjoyed them, we will met again in the future!

The quarterfinals are almost ready:

Round 4

-kotay-in hell- (14)
-maia03- (33)

-tprail- (21)
#5 (Winner of -staycool- (53) vs. -Silvertrain- (42))

-Leleline_E- (40)
-Elric- (9)

-erps- (22)
-Muddaihrsohn- (11)

Edit: And i think we should do this sort of tournament more often! I believe for the next Tournament we will have easily 64 players (most of them top 100 or top 200).

Re:New Best of 7 Tournament Tue, 30 May 2006 22:00
First quarterfinal played ! We started yesterday evening and finished tonight... final result :

Leleline_E [0:4] Elric

Game 1:
miss E: Sea-NY, Por-Phe (missed) + Sea-LA + Dul-Hou (missed) - first
Elric: LA-Chi, Phe-Cal
She made first her big tix, and played near the end SF-LA... to complete the second, but "how" she played this, I feeled that my best step would be LA-Phe... and it was !!! Razz
longest : Elric
125-85 Elric

Game 2:
miss E: Cal-SLC, Den-ElP
Elric: LA-Chi, SF-Atl - first
We were both on the West, and she tried to block me... but I had too many locos (7 !), and too many yellow !! Original : Evy completed her two tix without joining the cities of the 2 tix Surprised
longest : Elric
116-103 Elric

Game 3:
miss E: SSM-OK, Van-SFe (missed)
Elric: Sea-NY, Den-Pitts - first
Big battle around NY... I finally went by the middle south (Wash-Pitts-Ral-Nash-LR-OK-Den-Hel), and after these 2 games of blocking, Evy told me she had to learn how to block better Wink
longest : Elric
114-77 Elric

Game 4:
miss E: Mtl-NO, SSM-OK
Elric: LA-NY, Dal-NY - first
We were both more in the East than in the West... so many short roads. I had to give up the longest, because Evy annoyed me a little (again ^^) around NY, but I had a biggest combo than she had, and it was enough Cool
longest : miss E
113-108 Elric

I started 3 times !
About the locos ? I had : 7, 7, 5 and 4 !
So, yes I won, but the result doesn't show the real skill of my young opponent, because the luck "parameters" (locos, starting, combos of tix, ...) were in my favor ! And Evy is really a strong player Nod

Thanks again for this serie, Evy Smile (and now, I can go and comfort Requiem Wink)

Well... more and more happy to still be in this great Tournament Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Elric.

YEP, yesterday, SILVERTRAIN rolled over me and cut me into pieces before I noticed it was over.

First Game / Silver starts:
I: Seattle/NY and Chic/SF
Silver: Boston Miami and NY Atl

Silver blocks me in the NY area, I manage to get through, but miss Santa Fee. He finishes quickly, lets me even have the longest and winns 101-95 having BOSTON !!!!!

Second Game / I start:
I: LA Miami and LA Chic
Silver: Calg Ph and Dul Hou
I notice he will have the longest and need to take more tkts, once I get Calg SLC (good but not enough) and the next time no luck (Chi SF Crying or Very Sad )

Third Game / I start:
I: Calg Pho, SF Atl and 8-9 jokers!!
Silver: Dul ElP and Mont NewO
I just played badly and messed it up. He gets the longest and finishes toooo early 120:95 ...

Fourth Game / Silver starts:
I: Montr & Chic -- NewO
He: cannot remember and WinHou (which I manage to block)
He still wins 107 : 99 because he has the longest....

CONGRATULATIONS to Silvertrain and all the best

stay(notso)cool as usual....

Re:New Best of 7 Tournament Sat, 03 June 2006 18:09
Here the results of tprail vs. Silvertrain

game 1:
tp: hel-la / den-paso 113
silver: to-mia / ny-atl 97
start: silver / longest: tp
tp won easily by better trackpoints and longest

game 2:
tp: chi-santa/ssm-okla 104
silver: dal-ny / chi-no 109
start: silver / longest: silver
no good tix for both, longest decided for silver

game 3:
tp: van-mon / mon-no(not finished) 88
silver: sea-la /van-santa 114
start: again lucky silver, longest silver
silver took early 6ers in the north slowing tp unable to finish his second tix

game 4:
tp: la-mia / du-paso(not finished) 100
silver: van-mon / cal-slc 133
start: superlucky silver, longest silver
both had big, silver took 6 orange in time and had right colours
to get longest before tp could finish second tix

game 5:
tp: mon-atl/ny-atl(both not finished) 87
silver: la-chi / den-paso 88
start: guess who ?? / longest tp
hard fight, tp confused again starting silver by beginning his route with den-hel, going over sea and north 6ers to mont. Silver blocked to-pitts and mont-ny and finshied his route just in time.

Thanks again tp for the though and close games, sure result would be different without lucky starting 5 times.

Now in both semis the battle: France - Germany Smile
(maybe in football worldcup also ??)
Sure all want to see a German final Wink Wink
