Is Four Online Games the End of the Road? Fri, 30 June 2006 20:01
I've been coming to the site for 18 months now and it appears that DoW is going to stop at the four games currently on the web site. If this is the case I am a bit disappointed, and likely will go after used copies of Cleopatra and T2R Europe.

Can anyone from DoW give an idea if anything new may be coming? I realize you can't announce something officially until you've ironed out all the details, but can you even indicate whether consideration is being given? At this point I am going to let my ID expire until new opportunities are available.

No, it's actually only the beginning. Very Happy
Though I realize it may not look that way, from your perspective Rolling Eyes

As we have mentionned in other places, we are hard at work on Memoir Online right now. Though not ready to announce a timetable or release date yet, we will let everyone know as soon as we get closer to shipping.

As for nothing having happened for the past 18 months online, that is actually far from the case. There was T2R Europe going live, then the release of T2R PC with the Swiss map. And there is more coming later.

best,
eric

Thank you for the remarkably fast response. I'll look forward to Memoir 44, hopefully by the end of the year. Given the games that are currently available online, I think Memoir is an excellent choice for #5.

Clarification please -- Memoir Online is going onto the web site, or going onto disk? I just mentioned it was going on your web site on board game geek's Memoir 44 forum. I should probably make sure I get that detail right. My real question is whether we are ever going to see another game on the web site.

I guess wasn't expecting anything new online, in that Days of Wonder didn't really have any more games that would lend themselves to online play. Could you imagine the headache of trying to play Mystery of the Abbey online? Or trying to type out ARRRGGGG all the time in trying to play Pirate's Cove. But Memoir 44! Wow, what a great surprise! I'm looking forward to it.

I actually wondering if there are future plans for getting Cleopatra and the SOA online after Memoir? It seems like it has similar play mechanics to that of Ticket to Ride, which is a great online game.

But for the present, I wish we could get more people to jump over and play Queen's Necklace. It's a great game online, but I've only played it a few times, and I'm yet to play with someone who speaks English. I just know those French guys I play with are insulting me somehow Smile

I want to make a clear distinction in my question between "online" and "web site" as "Ticket to Ride Online" the PC game isn't of much interest to me when I already own the board game. In fact it's the web site version of the game that got me (and two friends that I recommended) to buy T2R.
I should have been more careful interpreting Eric's response -- I get the feeling the efforts now are on creating PC games instead of the web page applets. Either Eric didn't fully understand my question or he was pulling a Steve Ballmer on me. I get the feeling it's the former.

Not that I know any more than anyone else, but the impression I have gotten from Memoir 44 online (including the fact that Eric used the term "online") is that it will be an online game, not just a PC game. However, Eric once alluded to the fact that it would be "shipping" which tells me it could very well be a PC game also (or he slipped because he is used to new games being ready to be shipped and he didn't really mean that).

However, a good chunk of the M44 group plays online with VASSAL. And DOW has expressed that they would like to make a system better than that designed just for M44. So whehter we have to buy a PC version, or download a free version, I would expect nothing less than either including Online play capabilities.

I think it is just a matter of learning the game. I have always been interested in playing the other online games but I own none of them so I haven't taken the time to figure out the games. And there are more pressing games on my priority list that I would like to purchase. But I am always open to new games.

Just to be clear:

The initial release of Memoir Online will be Online (ie not as a PC game). We will post additional details when the time comes.
