We talk about tickets all the time but since we have many tickets and not so many desirable routes, what is THE best first move?

I understand your selection may change based on your tix, but I'm talking overall, game in and game out, what section of track proves to be the one you want most often the first time you set down trains?

Helena-Duluth.

Can fit in to nearly every ticket and is a sixer. Opponent can hardly guess what you have from it.

Best opening move is LA-Las Vegas.Your opponent will immidiatly waste 3 oranges for blocking and longest track is yours.Especially against the Baron I will try that great move;excellent trap to all hardcore-blockers.

6 oranges is far and away best move.

6 blacks is probably second best opening move, though it's a close call with 6 yellows and 6 grays. But 6 oranges is far and away the best (or is most often the best - situation/ticket dependencies may change things of course).

And if you play 6 grays as first or 2nd move, DON'T fill them with oranges, purples, or whites (assuming those 6s are open). That limits your follow up moves and makes it easier for your opp to block you.

I actually had someone open with RAL-CHS last weekend. The sad thing is - that was one of their best plays all game.

I agree LA-ELP is frequently a strong opener, too.

I think you all overlook another strong contender, though:

Start with KC-Omaha and the Midwest is yours!

Duluth Orange is very good. I like to play NY/Pittsburgh too whether I need it or not. It can throw off the opponent, and blocking becomes easier and usually cheap to do if he has to get to the NE. Nash/Atl to me in a 2 player game is not as strong opening as in 4 player.

The best combo for two opening moves is Por-Sea followed by Nas-Atl. For a single best opening move, NY-Bos or SLC-LV are tough contenders. Twisted Evil

Here is what gets me: it doesn't happen often but when it does, I'm left wondering what they possibly were thinking...

A player starts with a move, usually a 1 or 2, that they never connect to later and when you see their tix, never needed in the first place.

Makes me want to reach through their monitor, grab them by their collar, shake them and tell them "Quit doing those shrooms til after the games are over!"

lol Goscha! If I read your map right, you were playing bassmaster. That's the same dude who did it with me! (See my post about 4 posts above yours.)

Maybe he lives in Charleston or something...
