Queen's Necklace Bots Needed Wed, 15 June 2005 08:34
Cheers - perhaps already requested/noted/demanded/desired, but the option to play with bots in Queen's Necklace is highly needed in order to maintain some viability of the online game.

As an avid gamer and afficianado of DOW's quality games such as QN, it constantly pains me to find one lone wanderer in the QN lobby with the two of us unable to play a game, or (more often the case) hopping online to enjoy a sound thrashing based on jewelry-related intrigue but (lacking anyone else or any ability to start a 1 player+bot game)having to settle for iron-laying, country-crossing action at the hopping Ticket to Ride parlor.

The inclusion of this feature quite honestly saves Gang of Four from a similar fate of lessened online gameplay (humble opinion), and many's the time when a fun tune-up game of myself and my three varying-IQ-artificial-intelligence friends is an easy deal to spin up and enjoy in GoF. Not so with QN - a solid vote for what should be minimal work to include "play with 1 to 2 bots" option and to keep the online play of this very good game alive.

Thanks again for the quality of board and online play.

We hear you. Unfortunately doing this is far from "minimal work", due to the architecture in place at the time we developped this.

Did not want to disparage the work required to implement "bot play" in QN, only to make the point that it's probably significantly less effort than getting an entirely new game ("Pirates Cove Online") up and going lol.
Having said that, again, a strong vote again for helping the lonely/occassional QN players by providing new "bot friends" to play with.

Another shameless plug for bots on QN - just to keep hope alive. Would consider this prior to any new game initiation in order to shore up this part of the DOW juggernaut.
I'll send donuts to whomever gets this in shortly - cheers.

Not as if I can't promote the topic singlehandedly enough, but a consideration for ease of implementation is to provide for just 1 bot in the near term.

This perhaps avoids complications of making the addition too complex and would aid those lonely pairs who wait aimlessly for hours to actually engage in a fulfilling game lol.

Again, just words for support of the feature as your next effort online - keep up the good work.

The amount of work required is unfortunately very significant, for historical reasons in the architecture, and this regardless of the number of bots coded or not. So it remains unlikely, despite our love for this game.

Cheers - understand. Just a continued vote for this feature prior to new game implementation online.

Would be quite interesting in how a vote (QN bots before other online game/features) might come out...continued good work.

In the "squeaky wheel = grease" mindset, would be very interested to here the vote out there of folks wanting 1-2 bot play added to QN.

Barring votes "for", perhaps any discussion of "why not" would be good as well. Just keeping hope alive and the issue in front of the people lol.

Fun tangent: Cards With Questionable Play Value

1. "The Polisher" - Adds +10 to winning score similar to the Banker but must be rubbed on each jewel to accrue points.

2. "The Thief-In-Training" - When played, object stolen must be returned with head hung and an apology because, well, he's just not THAT good. Used primarily to let people know that you COULD have, but not quiiiiiiiite yet.........

3. "The Moustache-teer" - Can counter "The Forger" by simply demonstrating how much more manly he is due to the large amount of ample facial hair. Not to be confused with the only-included-in-expansion-set "The Mouseketeer".

4. "Rock" (Jewel type) - Acrues no points if accumulated or played during sales; can be used however to counter King by "tossing at noggin" if one has "Alchemist" card as well.

5. "Bling" - Humongously-large necklace/pendant worth x20 when played; only 2 possible to combine, however, because too much bling is sometimes just too much.

6. "The Jester" - Really no purpose except to waste a turn and enjoy the looks/text messaging that follows other player's recognition of this sheer useless act.

And, just because time's short, the last one for now:
7. "The Executioneer" - Slightly more final method of blocking a sale than "The Cardinal" upon which time the Call for Sale gentleman does not appear again in the game. Ever.

Cheers -

I really agree with this post. The game is not very viable without bots. Case in point, I still haven't actually played it!

Same here. I have a person to play against but no third. If bots aren't possible, maybe there's a chance for allowing 2 player games? It looks like the game has this mechanic already (from boardgamegeek).

It's certainly not a bad game, but I'd rather play any of the other three online ones before it.

While I hear the last comments on "more players vs. more bots", would offer that one way to get more players in the first place is to enable the random/interested player to actually get some game time (via bots) when so few are in the room to play. This seems to have worked quite well with TTR and G04 (which have bots).

And now I have contributed another 2 cents to make it 6 cents total on the subject lol. (And El Soy - good balance in the pic lol)

We need bots and/or support for 2 player. If the architecture is bad, perhaps the whole thing needs to be recoded. This is one I'd love for me Mac for hotseat or lan play.

I have just begun playing QN online in the last couple weeks, and have fallen in love with the game! However I am equally frustrated with trying to find folks in the lobby to play with.

Recenly, I purchased a web card and am now wondering why I needed it. I don't need to be able to create my own game if there is nobody to play with (real folks or bots!). I usually wait and wait for someone else to show up and start a game!

Please create bots. The online game is extremely lacking without them.

Thanks

PS. I'd love to play Fist of Dragon Stones someday, but again, no people in lobby or bots to play with.

This being said, I must also say that your online games are awesome!

Yes, I speak English.

I don't, however, speak l33t. Mad

Best way to learn it is to jump in. The tutorial isn't bad, either. Just let the opponents know you are a 1st timer.

First post on this forum.

This is what I did today. I ordered the game and couldn't wait so explored playing online. I read the tutorials and got somewhat overwhelmed so I tried playing. It is tons of fun. The other players were understanding as to the time it took me to play. I can't wait to play again.

Unfortunately, there are so few players on the site. When is the best time to play?

When you've made an appointment with other players...

Seriously, I gave up looking for players for QN online. When I can, I arrange with a friend to "meet" and wait for a third!

Hi everyone,

I'd like to play QN and dragonstones with you.

I speak english and french and my timezone is GMT -10 (like hawaï) as I leave in Tahiti (French Polynesia).

I may be around in the evening(6pm -10 pm) during business days and between 8am-10pm on week-ends.

And that's true there are not many people playing those great games. Bots would be great.

regards,

Gabriel.

I just want to add my vote to create bots for this game. I don't have people to play this game with locally, and I was thrilled to see that there was an online version of this game on the DOW site, but since there are no bots to play against, and I haven't seen anyone else in the lobby to play against, I cannot play this game. I don't know what it takes to create a bot, so I don't know how I might be able to help with that, but I wish that I could.

Here Here for the bots. I actually own this game and still don't really know how to play and would like to practice - but can't ever find anyone to play with. With bots at least the DOW community could learn to play which would increase interest in this and most likely DOW's other games.

I'd love to learn how to play this game so if anyone is up for playing with a complete beginner then let me know! We could plan a game for a time when we'll all be around Smile

Yes Bots would be nice since we have to wait long enough to play this game, it really is quite annoying to finally get a game going and then to have someone quit on us right before the last sale!! NOT fun!!
