Pegasus Bridge medal in the first scenario Fri, 24 November 2006 18:48
First scenario - Pegasus Bridge . Now , in the prebattle introduction it mentions the objective of Major John Howard and his squads to claim the two bridges , one spanning Caen River and the other spans the Orne River . The victory conditions for either side is four medals . The Allies can quickly claim three medals just by getting the east bridge and killing off the two German squads within the vicinity . That can be achieved relatively easily ( unless an absolutely horrendous hand of cards are dealt to the allies) . In all playings of this scenario the Allies have had no real issues acheiving those three medals , so what we have decided to do is play the scenario so that the Allies can only win by taking BOTH bridges even if he exceeds the four medal limit . It makes sense since the objective of the Allies was to control both bridges but this objective is not listed in the victory conditions . Do any other players play out this scenario where the Allies must take and hold both bridges ? The Germans still only need four squad kills for their four medals but two of the Allied medals MUST be the bridges . It makes for a tighter game with this scenario but the Germans still have not yet won this one in our group ( but have come incredibly close!)

I see no problem playing this way. However, I think there ar emore exciting scenarios out there then to modify this one. It is more of an introductory game to get new people involved with the system. I use it as my tutorial when playing Vassal for the first time with some one because it is quick and simple. But if I wanted a more lengthy game, stating that two of the victory medals must come from the objectives is perfectly legit. But byt the point, the Axis army is usually so decimated, it is just a matter of time and you just delay the inevitable.

I think your suggestion is very interesting Lee Miester. My regular C&C opponent liked the idea too, so I expect we'll try it out sometime. Don't forget that the strong pro-Allied balance of Pegasus Bridge makes it an ideal introductory game for complete beginners, so I'd keep this variant for exprienced players looking to spice up a familiar old scenario. Personally, I'd just up the requirement to 6 medals...

Hi,

I removed the 3 centre units of british glider troops and made the rest special. with the 4 medels for victory of which 2 must be the bridges for the British.

There were 6 gliders used from Pegasus Bridge attack.

I am looking at adding the roads in.

Rich.

A little question:
Is mandatory in this scenario, take the two medals on bridges for win the match? Or can I win the match only destroy 4 enemy units?

Thanks

Hello Ricardino,

It is not required to take the medals. You can also win by destroying four units.

This weekend at millennium con I ran into an old friend, and he bought a copy of the game. So we sat down and I taught him how to play. We did the first scenario and I took the Germans... I won, but just barely.... It came down to the last medal for both of us. When we swapped he learned from the last game and we repeated the ending, him winning as the Germans coming down the the last medal in a fast draw.

I have won as the Germans many times, but to have a new player pickup the rules and tactics so quickly was pure joy.

I like the idea of must take both bridges and bumping the win to five medals? Seeing as the Germans only have six units....

Me too. I also like the way some of the original C&C:N scenarios have been slightly ammended / updated to better reflect the historical battle such Waterloo where Hougoumont and La Haye Saint now have the ability to ignore first flag.
