Any word on when the 1st expansion is going to come out? There is so much room for great ideas, I can't wait to see what DOW comes up with.

I can't wait to see the new monsters that could come from an expansions. As long as they keep it confined to the monsters that fit in the medieval vein. Hill Giant Dire Wereboar, anyone?

I cant wait till the next Expansiom comes out. There is so much that can be done. For both fantasy and history.

Pikemen, a canon, other war machines.
And fantasy, Elves, Dragons, and the like.

Any idea when an Expansion will come out?

May....oh thats a bit of a wait but I would much rather wait then have them rush something out. I hope they post some new rules or advent. on here for the Hill Giant and Earth El.

Personally, I think the Longbows will come down to being calvary only ranged weapons, much like Longswords are Calvary only melee weapon.

As for the expansion: undead, elves, dragons, seige weapons, ogres, new weapons (spears, longbows, blunt Weapons, slings), heroes, lizardmen, modern hydras, weather effects all seem to be good ideas for an expansion. They could also expand on the elementals themselves: fire, air and water could be made into decent creatures.

Perhaps demonic and angelic forces, but that gives metaphysical elements physical characteristics. I'm not sure I agree with this idea.

Greek mythology is an excellent source of ideas. Minotaurs, be they creatures or units, harpies, cyclops, greek hydras or gorgons are all good choice to add to the game. It should be added with thought in any case, it goes against the time period.

Pikemen and axes are a certainty (check the Raven's posts on battleloremaster.com)

Anyway, I'm not expecting new races right away, I think they'll expand on goblins a little first. I don't think we'll see more complex fantasy stuff such as death knights, undead, frog warriors and what not, they'll probably keep it basic with goblins, dwarves and elfs. For creatures I think they'll go for a dragon later on, but first some easier creatures like trolls perhaps.

Wouldn't mind seeing some orcs or demons? or even some undead, elves, or gnomes Smile

Orcs could be bold and frightned so that it will ignore 1 flag but a second would make him run, and they could have a hit on lore but recive no lore.

Demons could be normal with some special effect like for every unit it kills, the demon unit will be healed 1 demon

Undead would be normal and could have a deathly effect which makes the unit they attack become frightned.

and gnomes, well they could make siege weapons for you and create traps?

Great Ideas btw Keep it up Very Happy

Cavalry longbows? You must have never tried archery or horseback riding.... I suspect Longbows, if brought into the game will have to be infantry units.

Personally, I really hope they do not go with undead, or demons.

The undead theme has been done so many times in different gaming environments that it is in my opinion, over used and rather bland.

The demons issue does not keep with the theme of the game and I am fundamentally opposed to it. It is one race I would never purchase.

I would rather see more creative, new and fresh ideas then the tried and true but old, stale and lifeless route.

Allow DOW make this a game that stands out from the rest, not look just like the rest.

Maybe you shouldn't consider demons as a new race, but as a new "creature"!

I would love to see them take the game in a new direction and not just follow the old path of elves and dwarves. Not that there is any thing wrong with them I would just like to see something unique.

To satisfy all camps ie those that enjoy the historical figures as well as fantasy. I would like to see them use the best of both worlds. Something like other lands expansions with their associated mythological creatures. Imagine samurai with oriental dragons or temple dogs, middle eastern armies with djinn or norse with frost giants etc etc.

I prefer the historic figures and would enjoy seeing Pikemen (especially helpful against cavalry), Halberds, and various siege engines (Ballista, trebuchet, springall, mangonel, battering ram, etc.), castle/stronghold attacks, glacis, mining, etc. But perhaps some of this goes beyond the scope of what DoW has in mind. I have faith they will more than satisfy us and probably surprise us with goodies we haven't imagined. Smile

I want fantisy things manly

Elves: Trees do not block line of site.

A raith figure that would be normal sized and be a "creature" but still be as powerfull as a hill giant or spider ect.

Orcs: They have a dirty fighting ability they hit on lore bonus strikes and banner colors.

Siege and better walls.

I think elves are a given with the theme and all. Orcs too. Maybe barbarians or "bird men" who can "fly" over other pieces on the battlefield. I'd like to see scenarios where 4 separate races/players can play too.

I could go for Orcs, a whole Lord of the Rings Expansion. Might have to call them some thing different, now that Games Work Shop is doing the Lord of the Rings game, but we would know what they were.

yeah that would rock, four separate racers i can imagine that lol, though it would take a while to play. I like the idea of elves see through trees and it would be cool if the archers in the trees can hit units on bonus strikes Smile Make elves stand out with strong ranged attacks.

Re:Expansion Tue, 02 January 2007 15:55
I've been thinking about elves as well. I was thinking that their range might 4 hexes like regular bows, but that they would also hit on bonus strikes (as with the crossbow). Also, no limitations on dice when attacking into/out of woods, and maybe that they could move through woods without stopping. I think I would still have woods block line of sight though.

Summary:
range 4; hits on flag color and bonus strikes
can attack into/out of woods without die restrictions
Do not have to stop when moving through woods

I think these are excellent suggestions for elves. It doesn't make them too powerful and stays within the current rules and game mechanics, yet makes them interesting to play.

We've been talking about new unit types. How about this?

New Command Card

"Forced March"

Order X Units on [Insert Flank or Center]. For each hex beyond normal move, lose one model.

Yeah, I admit it can be very powerful... maybe, if you're trailing in banners/pendants? Might be cool for those last ditch attempts to come back if you're trailing.

Actually, I'm hoping DOW publishes some "official" scenarios until the expansion comes out!

Somehow gets you to alter the opponents War Council composition? Then again, I think we should focus on the battlefield!

With this rule why would you bother using regular archers. There has to be a balancing penalty to using them or else you nerf regular archers. Maybe they only have 2 figures per standard.

Re:Expansion Tue, 02 January 2007 19:16
I think two figures per stand is extreme. At most, three figures, however, the reason why they don't have a drawback, like dwarves don't have a drawback is because the game is scenario based so far, so it doesn't matter if one unit is better than another, and if there are points per unit later, one would expect normal archers to be cheaper if they are not as good as this proposed unit.

Of course, that is the point. The elves' strong suit would be their archers. You would never opt to use regular archers if you had a choice. Just like you would never opt to use regular heavy infantry if you could use dwarven heavy infantry. (I should probably never say "never" as there are times you might want to sacrifice a unit... in that case you would choose a weaker unit).

But whether elves or any other unit type is included in a scenario is not the player's option anyway, but the scenario designer's.

Any balancing, if needed, could come from the unit mix available. Like the dwarves who have no cavalry. Perhaps elves would forgo heavy infantry. However, I am not persuaded that balancing would be needed, but if so then this would be one way of doing it.

My guess would be that you would see little in the way of "pike and shot" (though I could see pike being done) simply because the tactics/tech were different than the 1000 to 1300 AD these rules represent. Like all of Borg's games, each captures, more or less, the flavor of a "period" of warfare.

So far we have:
Civil War (and Napoleonics).
Ancients
World War II
Medieval/Early-Renaissance

I think a Siege Warfare type expansion would be really kool. I also agree that Pikemen and Blue Archers are needed.
