What genre is this game? Thu, 08 March 2007 20:42
It seems to be advertised as "Medievel" combat in "Europe", but upon closer inspection seems to feature Dwarves and Giant Spiders?

Just wondering what to expect before buying...I would actually prefer a Fantasy game over Medievel.

Thanks!

You can play it as either a Medieval game or as a Fantasy game but the game is FAR more geared towards Fantasy play (spells, wizards, clerics, rogues, goblins, dwarves, giant spiders, hill giants, earth elementals, etc)

You shoudl totally get it if you dig fantasy warfare. The spells alone are a total blast.

If you are looking for a Fantasy (!) -Game that is FUN, not very heavy in playing, lots of dice-rolls but a part of strategy that in most cases will make the difference, beautiful material, figs, expansions, short playing time and so on, then Battlelore is for you.
But if you're looking for a rather strategic game with hardly no luck in it, then try Battlelore before buying!

PS: I like BL a lot Smile

It is BOTH a Medieval battle game and a Fantasy game. However, in terms of the full measure of the game, I would put it in the Fantasy genre.

The basic game system is introduced with just men troops. Swordsmen, Archers, Cavalry. You can technical play at just this level. But if you do, you will miss half the game.

Then the fantasy allies are added, including the Dwarves and Goblins which act similar to the men units with a bit of twist in terms of capabilities.

Next comes the Lore. This is where the game really moves into Fantasy. Lore is like "mana", and is used as the fantasy fuel used to do magic-like stuff. Lore is the extra dimension used in conjunction with the battle model. Hence, the name BattleLore.

And then we have the creatures, adding an additional element to the game. However, the designers specifically state they want the creatures to be memorable. Don't expect to see lots of these things on the battlefield. They are designed to special, and unique.

Thanks guys,

I have done my research and it looks like this is a rocking game. Can't wait to grab a copy.
