Vassal Players - Quick Survey

Now that my work and healt issues have subsided a bit, I have finally had a chance to get back into my PBEM vassal games and started cranking away at Memoir 44 again.
But last night, I was done with my PBEM games quickly and wanted more so I headed over to the Vassal site to see if I could find a live opponent. I logged on 4 differnt times and no one else out there. So I checked who might have been on in the last 24 hours - no one! (Not even I registered - which is strange also).
So then I looked for users that have been on in the past month - no one again! There was one or two people on the old version 5 of Memoir 44 (recognizable as "Memoir 44" instead of v6's "Memoir '44" with the apostrophe) and 1 or 2 on the Overlord. But a big fat zero for regular M44 users. Even Battle Cry had more players that I could count!
So where is everyone? Is no one playing live on Vassal anymore? Or is there a glitch in the system not reporting who's been on? Why has no one been on when I have done a few spot checks the last 14 hours?

I have noticed that there seem to be fewer people logging in to VASSAL the last few weeks. I check VASSAL a few times a week. I think there may be a bug in the counting of players, however.

I was on there on Friday playing Sony...and it acted very wierd even while we were playing...even so far as to kick us out to the main room at one point.
I don't think that right now, it is very reliable with who is or who isn't online.

Looks like that is the case. I have been played 11 Vassal Mem games in the past month and have logged onto several more times in that period.

I get on there about every other night or so and look for opponents, but I have a hard time finding any in games I know how to play.

You need to get some PBEM partners. Since December '06, I've played ~50 plus M44 games.
Can't beat it. You get to play your favorite game at your leisure.

You shouldn't be online at work anyway

Vassal needs the latest version of Java to run. What seems to be the issue? I might be able to help.

I just installed Vassal on my computer, downloaded the Memoir mod and all the extensions. I seem to understand everything (moving, battling, taking hits, deleting units, deleting sandbags, etc), BUT what to do with the command cards?
There's no one in the Memoir main room so I can't ask there / can't start a game with someone. I can get some cards from the deck, and place them wherever I want on the view. Is this correct / How are the cards drawn? What exactly does the "Flip card" do? It seems that "Discard card" plays the card, yes? How about if I get to take two cards after playing Recon 1? Does the other player see the discarded card?

There should be an "Axis" and "Allies" button at the top of the screen. When you start a new scenario, you pick which side you are and can open a window with one or the other of these buttons. This is like your Card Tray in the physical game. You can put your cards there.

Put the cards in the window that opens when you click "Axis" or "Allies". I think if you start off as an Observer, neither button is available. To draw cards, just drag them from the "deck" onto your window. "Flip card" will turn the card over. If the card is on the main map window, it will then become visible to your opponent (the back of the card is no longer visible). If you can see the miniature of the back of the card, your opponent just sees the back and not what is on the card (when it is on the map screen). "Discard card" plays it to the discard pile, and in the process flips it if you haven't. The other player can then see it. If you get to take two cards, I think the generally accepted process is to put two cards somewhere on the playing map without flipping. Then move one to your card rack and discard the other.
Does that help answer your questions?

I am doing night shift for a few weeks... babysitting... sitting next to the radio here in the office waiting for something to blow up... Literaly... lot of free time on a 13 hour shift 7 days a week. I am still in Iraq and we don't have computers in the hooches... ok I have my laptop but no way to connect to the web. Day shift I only have maybe 20 min a day of computer time so there is no way I could play anything. So sitting here the past week and a half, I tried to get vassal to work. They even killed all our chat programs... *$&^$#^#@!!!!!
ugh...
