That's kinda alot of work, not sure I want to do it twice in a couple days Wink

I'll give you this, though... I entered the ratings for people as they signed up.( remember, we're using the composite of 2P and US) Give or take:

Division 1: Over 3800 (maybe 3810)
Division 2: 3730-3800
Division 3: 3680-3720
Division 4: 3600-3680
Divison 5: 3500-3600
Division 6: less

Right now, there's 4 extra people... I'm leaning towards having 10 in the bottom two divisions, so everyone plays every week, if no one else signed up..if we get al least two more, they'll be a division 7.

I have a list too, yes, I'll be checking it against Zeno's to make sure everyone is there, and updating anything that needs updating.

Registration is now closed. I'll be getting the schedule set up over the weekend and will post the first week's games on Monday.

Stay tuned!

It's here!!

There are the tentative rules and set up for the upcoming League, as discussed in the "Something New after Nation's Cup" Thread. If you'd like to voice any further opinions on the set up, or as a question, feel free to do so there.. I'd like to keep this thread JUST for sign up, so it'll be nice and easy for me to keep track of. Sign up is open until Jan. 3rd, and is open to anyone, regardless of rating, you just have to be a registered user (i.e not a guest)

1) You're committing to play one series of matches per week for 8-10 weeks (depending on the amount of signups). If you're gone for a week or two, you will be able to make it up later, as long as you inform me and your scheduled opponents. The week's matches will be posted Sunday night, starting on Jan. 4th. IF you anticipate an issue and need you games in advance, I will consider doing so.

2) When you sign up, you should indiciate what your prefered time to play is. There are two choices: Euro evenings(early afternoon in the states) or American Evenings(wee hours in Europe). This is simply to make it easier to schedule the match. Once your match for the week is posted, you should contact your opponent to set up the match. Hopefully, this will alevaite some of the scheduling issues that come up.

3) Players will be divided into group based on their composite rating on the 4th. I'm currently picturing 3 groups for each time choice, but that may change based on sign up.

4) Each match will be 7 games... you play all 7, regardless of the score in the series. Ties are fine. Standings will be first by Match Records, then by game record. Ties will be settled by head to head result. If head to head was a tie, we'll got to points scored head to head, then a coin flip. Unless BOTH players say otherwise, the 1st seven games I see on your history once the match is announced will be the ones that count. Standard etiquette applies. If there's any controversy with bots or anything along those lines, I will render a judgement based on the facts at hand.

5) the top two finishers in each division will go up a division, the bottom two will drop one.... there will be re-ceding as necessary to accomodate players leaving. New players coming in after the 1st season will start in the lowest league of their chosen time period.

6) There will be a 'champion's battle' among the winners of each division (gotta have bragging rights)

7) If a player has to leave mid-season, either a replacement will be found, or the players games will be nullified, depending what point in the season it happens, and it's impact on the other players.

Nice to see this competition model that will be the standard in the future, i am sure, next to NC.

Some comments for next seasons:

1) we already know from begining all the opponents of our group (see tickipedia).
A more practical way to play the games would be a time frame of 7 or 8 weeks to complete all your clashes. You play your 7 opponents when you want in this timeframe.
Some players will play all their clashes in a week, other will stay at 1 clash per week, but this is not a problem here.
The advantage is that this is flexible and nobody is frustrated by the speed of the competition or organizing a appointment in a busy week. If all the games are played before end of timeframe, you can move to Season 2. If some clashes/games are not played, you adjust the sanctions.
All the Games have to have the right title: i.e. LEAGUE DIV X
And players have to post the scores just after the series (or partial result if players agree to postpone the rest of their clash).

4) in tickipedia, the version is slightly different, giving less importance to series/Matches than games. We/you need to clarify.

5) a good way to mix the divisions is following: 1st a division N go to division N-2, 2nd of division N go to Div N-1, and same for the last of the divisions. Exception for Div1 and Div2 changes (only 1 or 2). This allow the strong newcomers to go quicker in the high divisions.

@ Nomade: We've got just the right amount already, so, unless someone backs out at the last minute, I'm afraid you're a bit too late. Assuming all goes well, you can most certainly sign up for season 2 though, which will probably start in late March.

I'll re-post this when I do the schedule, but since you asked:

I'm going to stick to posting 1 week's worth of games at a time... while I admit it would be slightly more convient for the players to have the whole thing all at once, it would make it a nightmare to keep track of. I will, however, have the entire schedule all set up at the beginning, so if there's a week during the season you know you can't play during, you can let me know and I'll give you that gave early, so you can make arrangements.

For the standings, the info in the ticki is correct.. we've modified it a bit based on the discussions here: You'll play 7 gamses against each opponent (worth 1 each) and get a two point bonus if you win the series. For Example, if you win 4 and lose 3, you get 6 points(4 wins, 2 bonus). Ties will be split. So if you win 3 each, and have a tie, you'll get 4.5 points (3 for the wins, .5 for the tie, and 1 for tying the match).

I admit I have totally settled on the division movement. I do like the concept of having winning mean more than 2nd, and I also definately want 2 people to move each way, I just have to sit down and make sure that works logistically.

About the ties in ELO, group A/B, Christiano Ronaldo - Mason68.

@Wildfire: Can you get the exactly ELO scores of them from DOW?

If not, i propose a qualifying match BO7 between them!

I wasn`t aware of the point that the next "season" will follow directly after this one. Just to get it straight - did you plan on 4 seasons/year?

I myself am not sure whether I will be able to play that much in a league - especially as a few other tournaments will be there. I.e. I will definitely NOT be able to play league while NC or SPWC are running. Maybee this is the time to think about when to play the major tournaments so that they do not collide.

The scedule for NC 2008 was nice,so this year it will start around the first week of September again. How about SPWC and EU championship? Like this year right after/during the final period of NC? How about QTs?

maybee we can do a poll on the wikipage for this? I`ll try - but don`t expect me to do that well Rolling Eyes

edit: I think I managed: http://www.informatik.uni-frankfurt.de/~erps/tickipedia/inde x.php/Tournament_poll

For the TAGers here - after easter (around end of May)I will organize a TAG TEAM event both for US and EU map.

If Mason and Christian want to slug it out some time between now and Monday, I'd be happy to honor the result.

Otherwise, I put Christian over Mason due to his single point of overall rating higher.... you gotta decide somehow Smile

As far as future seasons go... I was vaguely planning on doing three for the year... This first one will run through Jan and Feb.... the 2nd (tentatively) would be Mid. March through April, and the 3rd Mid May through June (so 2-3 weeks in between each)...

After that, I figured people would be doing the summer vacation thing, then gearing up for NC 2009, so we'd leave off until after it ended.

Alternatively, we could space things out more, or just do 2... plenty of time to see about that, really.

Definately! If it turns out that many people find playing a match a week too much, we can scale it back(or accelerate, if that's what people want), it's really all about what works for the people playing.

Hi Wildfire,

thanks for doing all this work, I can imagine it's quite a lot.

Anyway, as you have the complete schedule set up you could just as well publish it without extra effort.

I understand the idea that the matches should be played in the sequence given by the schedule and in the weeks (give or take a few days in case of absence) meant for the respective matches.
I hope, if you ask the players to stick to that, they will understand your reason and follow that.

But it would be a great help to be able to arrange your playing dates asap. The problem with NC, SPWC, ... is, that in fact you have to keep SEVERAL possible dates available for each week (you can't offer your opponent just one timeslot, right?), so you can only make non-TTR arrangements at very short notice.
If I could make my league arrangements for the February games right now this would be a great help for my busy calendar.

Maybe you can consider that
thx

Thanks dea - I have not yet understood that - up to now I thought you could play your games whenever you liked during these 7 weeks? (even all 7 matches in one week if you can arrange that with your opponents?) are we supposed to follow a sequence in our matches?

And we really should get into talking about SPWC 2009 (that includes EU championship of course) because otherwhise we might get into trouble playing it before the NC (which 73% out of 15 Crying or Very Sad voters prefer: http://www.informatik.uni-frankfurt.de/~erps/tickipedia/inde x.php/Tournament_poll) (it would be great if we could get more votes here!)

Hmmm... I understand that it would indeed be more convienent, but it would be quite an administrative headache.

Everyone would also have to commit to not playing anyone in the division OTHER than the league games... I'm not going to have to worry about that.

If fact, what I think we'd have to do is make it a requirement that you post the results.. that way I'd know when to look for them and who you were playing against.

I'll tell you what... I'm just gonna post this first week tonight, but if lots of people want it, I'll consider posting the rest next week.

Hi Wildfire and all,

first thanks for the effort Wildfire!

I for one would very much prefer the idea of no strict schedule for the matches or any solution that goes into that direction and offers flexibility for arranging games. Wouldn't it be nice to have the chance to play whoever opponent from your group at any time within the season, maybe even spontanously whenever you meet in the lobby. That way one would not have to set too many dates at first and could check for the ones that are left when the end of the season comes closer.

Posting the results should be done anyway, no? The tiki with pages for each devision is handy for that. I dont exactly see what the overhead would be for you. Everyone in the devision has to play everyone and post the results. As long as there's no controversies we could all do that on our own, right?

As someone mentioned in this thread: some clarification about the scoring would be needed soon. There's a difference between this thread (matches first, games second) and the tiki rules (games one point, match win 2 points extra). And also I guess that many (even more those that are not fluent in English) did not yet figure that it's more or less an american style series where you might win all matches and not end up first.

Greetings
Colo

For administrative purposes, it would be nice if each division could have a recorder. For example, Colo for division D, myself for E and so on. After each match, the results can be given multiple ways.

a) post in forum thread.
b) post in ticki
c) pm to recorder

Those who are comfortable with tables can update the results, but there should still be someone who promises to clean things up from time to time. If there is a division that has no table-savvy members, then i would be willing to take on another division, and I suspect Colo and some others would as well. With the administration decentralized, we can play whenever we like (I don't know what Zimo is going to do the last 6 weeks of the league). This leaves wildfire with the inevitable unforeseen circumstances. He sets precedents, and helps put the rules together. By next season, someone should translate the rules into German and French. If, on the other hand, everything has to go through wildfire, or through a deputy if wildfire is absent, then the whole process seems unwieldly.

ps. Who out there is table-savvy? i know about colo, mas and erps, but i am sure others can pick it up quickly. If needed, i can put together a sample page, so that people can practice adding results, and check their work against my version of the table.

I think posting to a thread (especially if each division has one) is sufficient... then someone (me) just has to confirm the results via history and update the standings.

My intent was to do so on a spreadsheet, and post said spreadsheet after each week... I'm just not totally sure how to do so.

I would suggest to give two options:
- post to thread (but only the one thread there is per devision, nowhere else!),
- post to tiki (but only the one place there is per devision, nowhere else!).

Then I would suggest to have limited people update the tables in tiki and use this as reference. After all its public and everyone can check for errors and complain if there are any. So basically you wouldnt need a seperate spreadsheet at all, you could even save the tiki tables somewhere from time to time if you like.

And again ... there seems to be many asking for flexibility in scheduling the 7 matches per season. I see a lot of work it would save, e.g. setting up weekly pairings. What are the cons?
