And an extra question:
31. Who taught you the game?
U31 taught me at the beginning, and I learned a lot too when I played against neozen and used to play how U31 taught it to me Wink

a. Whom did you teach the game?
there are some players which I taught a bit. mostly I told them, how I use to play and how that I think that I can win and I give them some hints, but they have to learn playing by themselves. I think that it is really important that you can think logical and that you have a good spatial sense, and you can't teach that to anybody. you can think like that or you can't

ah Erps, no one cares about Barons answers anymore. The more Baron reveals the less interested people are in Baron. If 10 people beside you care I will still do it. But I seriously doubt there are even 10.

Not ten yet. Sorry to dissapoint you. I think you will all be rather let down by the answers anyway but they will be yours for all the world to see. This will put the final nail in the "character" of The Baron's coffin Sad Sad

Re:30 or so Questions Thu, 30 November 2006 04:26
I must be ten then... cmon Baron, you're a star!

oh my my answers to the new questions:
31)Who taught me? Some friends of mine in Edmonton Alberta Canada who taught me TTR as an "introductory" game leading towards "more strategically involved" board games. I swear if I played them now, I would destroy them - total blow out. Online they would be sub 1000 ELO. They are more into Settlers and Carcassone.

32)Who did I teach? My mom and dad, wife, some cousins... my cousins bought TTR USA after. I destroy them also, although my wife has very strange win streaks based on ticket fiending and uncanny block-dodging. Also unblocking-by-whining "oh please dont play there - okay?" and of course I let her have it and then she scores like 180+. She's hot.

Yes I am an Eagle Scout and currently assistant cubmaster in my area Very Happy

The Jamborees were quite fun. I was only able to attend the World Jamboree however since it was closer than the National ones I went to. (Calgary, Alberta).

Boy Scouts is a great organization and the values it embodies would be good for the whole world to adopt.

Baron

By the way, I'm still waiting for lots of pictures to be e-mailed to me. and just thanks soooo much whoever decided to use the e-mail address provided to sign me up for so much spam. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Here's my answers to additional questions:

31. Who taught you the game?

I've learned 99% by playing and observing, but in addition I've had some sparring sessions with anu and wuonex where we've been focusing on my problems in the game, especially avoiding some blocks.

Here's what I've learned by playing:
Lesson / first "teacher":
- don't show your goals if you don't want to get blocked / thekid
- east coast game / make
- combos / all the top players (but my favourite lesson was cal-pho+la-chi by anu)
- importance of 6'es over the longest sometimes / anu
- planning based on opponent's style / all the players I've played with

and lessons I still haven't learned:
- fast finish / Kotay (last time I checked my record was 1-0-13 against Kotay Embarassed )

I can't remember all of the lessons or the teachers, there must have been dozens of both. Sorry if I forget to mention somebody. And to all of you: Please, post your learning experiences here!!! I might be disturbed but I really would like to read them.

a. Whom did you teach the game?

I don't consider myself to be good enough to teach more advanced players, but I have told some beginners some basics of the game and maybe some low-ranked players have learned not to reveal their tickets with their first move by playing against me.

And to Baron:

Re:30 or so Questions Thu, 12 April 2007 19:40
== About me ==

My Ticket to Ride name is kolmogorov. My real first name is Benoit, which is accidently the name chosen by the current catholic Pope. I don't care if you use it in private games. It is quite difficult to pronounce if you're german or english, with its two vowels that needs to have some developed articulated lips muscles ;)

From Mars, not Venus. Will be turning 37 soon, a bulky Taurus, only 5 feet 6, despite Gemini ascending. Born and bred in Montreal, living in one of the greatest city in the world, Montreal that is. French speaking mainly, though I can get a neat accent after talking english for more than one hour. Learned some German ten years ago, then lost interest in german philosophy ; regain interest in German because of Ticket to Ride buddies. Promise myself to learn Spanish soon, if only because it contains less letters than Chinese.

Played more than a thousand games as of this writing. May have reached more than 150 once or twice. My best friends as for now are M_Leleline, dizz, maybe shamogi. Well, the usual suspects, as everybody else.

More or less married, more or less for ten years now. One kid for now, maybe another one soon. With more courage, and maybe a better job, would adopt too. (We just had to kill our two cats because Edmond has asthma, so don't ask about cats.) Work in a convent, as a receptionnist, doing some security, cleaning too : you can then say I'm paid to play T2R... My girlfriend is way more successful than me, becoming an important scenographer for the Montreal theatre scene. I like to think she thinks I have beautiful eyes, but she's after my butt, like other Venusians lean to (in general, not mine, of course).

== Name droppings ==

Listen to lots of music. Playing T2R with ambient music is perfect : Ultima Thule and Space Music are two really nice podcasts. Listening right now to the last album of Daniel Bélanger (v. www.danielbelanger.com), **L'échec du matériel**, who is one heck of a songwriter, maybe the greatest of mankind. After this, will certainly listen to Alain Bashung's **L'imprudence**, which is my favorite disk to listen when feeling mellow, on a rainy day, like today. Train physically while listening to youth's passions : Marillion, Iron Maiden, The Police, etc. Stopped hating music a little while ago, when stopped identifying myself with the music listened to.

**Brazil** was the first movie that made me discover that you can do about anything on film. **Raising Arizona** was the second one. Last autumn, tried to decipher **Mulholland Drive** and got lost into http://www.mulholland-drive.net/. Difficult not to cite Kurosawa, Fellini, or Bergman, but so be it.

Citing three specific books would need more think. Sticking with first memories, it would be Kafka's **Castle**, Borgès' **Fictions**, and since he died yesterday, Vonnegut Jr.'s **Cat's Craddle**. As for now, I am beginning Robertson Davies **World of Wonders**. The absolute writing style I envision would be something between Paul Valéry and Willard van Orman Quine.

Most afraid of man, maybe first and foremost George W. Bush ; Elric-Sancerre would come not long after him. If I could get off right now, it would be to Iceland, while it is still there. If I could have one wish, it would be to have three other ones like it. If I could be more religious, I would not be here talking about myself. If I could summon one person to answer these questions, it would be Saku Koivu. If I could want something more than anything else in this world, it would be a tool that would help me something I think ANYONE else who might read this has done answer, helping me answering question #24 along the way.

Here are two interesting quotes :

The universe is a big place, perhaps the biggest.

<<

Yell. Jump. Play. Out-run all those _sons-of-bitches_. They'll _never_ live the way you live. Go _do_ it.

[Ray Bradbury, **Zen in the Art of Writing**]

One things I really like about TTR is it can bring Americans, Frenchies, Germans and yes even dense Aussies together with friendship and love! (thekid and mudda excluded Laughing )

and my friend Elric, of course you are anti-bush, you are a risk adverse frenchie! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

What is it you like exactly about Micheal Moore? The way he cherry picks certain statistics and studies (many times not even the prevalent ones) and ignores the others? Or is it the way he just deliberately leaves out any information in studies, statistics, his movies that points out his glaring errors of logic?

Once he proved himself untrustworthy by twisting numbers and misleading the poor ignorant masses of America and it seems pretty much ALL of france Twisted Evil then I no longer take a darn thing he ever says unless it's backed up by a clear MAJORITY REAL studies and statistics, not just the ones he liked.

Now don't get me wrong Elric, I like you and I really don't dislike the French, it would just be nice to see more of you look at facts rather than make decisions based on your emotions. And I know you are going to pull the whole weapons of mass destruction facts were wrong... Guess what? That's o.k. Because no matter if there are 100 more Abu Garib's or 1000 times more rouge soldiers who kill an innocent family, Iraq is STILL better off than with a madman and his family and cronies in charge killing 100 to 1000 times the number of innocent citizens and torturing (not just humiliating) many many more. America brought freedom of the press to Iraq and because of that you actually get to HEAR about what is going on. So many foolish people think just because they hear about most things NOW and heard VIRTUALLY NOTHING before, that things must be worse.

No matter what flaws Bush has (and yes I realize he has some, but don't we all?) he certainly is better than Sadaam for the Iraqi people and is better than the extremists who wish to take over. Anyone who thinks otherwise should feel free to move to Iraq right before coalition troops leave Very Happy

But lets try something different. Days of Wonder should airdrop 10,000 copies of TTR webcards (hmmmm, might be hard to get them into the hands of those with computers)... o.k. then should mail webcard codes to all the school principles and then Shite and Sunni can join our community and experience the love and friendship that abounds.

Ok Baron, I just have to write this Shocked :

First and foremost, know that I love you no matter how misguided you are in (now) 2 things I know of Sad .You have written some posts in your time, but this one takes the cake. That you feel compelled to defend Dubya ...... I am sitting here shaking my head. I won't go into counter arguments with you (I know better, but I'll keep searching for a bible quote Very Happy). Suffice it to say that I completely agree with Elric and Kolmo, and the sooner you get rid of that person (oh, I could put some names here, but trying desperately to stay civil), the better off your (really beautiful) country will be !!! I was one of the protesters out on the streets during his visit to Germany, and I am PROUD of it! I hadn't done anything like that in 30 years, so you can imagine how strongly I felt (and feel) about it. And don't even dream about accusing me to be pro-Saddam or anything ludicrous like that (wouldn't put it past you), everyone knows that he was a really bad and evil bastard, and I know it too, ok? And it's a good thing that he's gone, all agreed. But maybe some of us can't quite accept the way it was done (never mind possible ulterior motives )....

Oh what the heck, I won't convince you no matter what I say, so let me just tell you what I think, Baron dear. You won't like it, but imho you're wrong. On both issues, actually. Simple as that! Smile

Love ya, M.

PS: I hope our once beautiful relationship doesn't suffer through this quite large difference in opinion, but I will try really hard to understand if you love GWB more than me...Sad You two would definitely get along much better than you and I ever could.

oh my dear Monika. Our beautiful relationship has not sufferred for all the times you have been wrong before and it won't this time either. Very Happy

You want to talk about ulterior motives? Like how France voted time and time again to do NOTHING against Iraq because if something was done it would cost France so much money in arms sales to Sadaam? Not to mention all the other business they got from Iraq.

You can feel strong emotion all you want Monika and go protest too, but try to look at FACTS, not getting all emotional because someone actually has the cajones to stick to their beliefs and principles and FOLLOW THROUGH on what they say (much UNLIKE the U.N. which passes one pointless and toothless resolution after another).

And no, I don't think Bush is the greatest president of all time like you seem to imply. I just don't think he is either stupid or the devil incarnate as many europeons seem to. I actually think many of his policies are incredibly foolish and short sighted, Iraq is not one of them. Mistakes have been made there is no doubt of that, but on the whole The Iraqi people are better off. Therefore what is your problem? That Bush didn't get permission from France and Germany first? PfFFFFFFFFFTTTT

Tried that about 10 times after Sadaam thumbed his nose at the world. It was quite clear that most of Europe didn't care if one muslim was killing other muslims, one darker skinned man was killing other darker skinned people.

I have heard a lot of criticism from Europe but very little constructive thoughts or actions. Pretty easy to do the first, not so much the second eh?

Please reserve your political arguments for a more appropriate thread. Only there will I gladly indulge into exposing all the sophisms you provided us.

This was such a pleasant thread, and i already hoped it would get reactivated by kolmogorov and motivate others to let us know a bit who they are.

@ Marie: you're absolutely right, it was a great thread, I really enjoyed "meeting" everyone a little more personally, and I'm sorry I got baited into responding to Baron. But Bush to me is an anathema, and when someone goes tooting his horn, I just have to toot the other way ..

@Spud: no, actually, just googled "bible quotes" Very Happy and you can always make them fit ...

Ah but I did not START the political warmongering.

baited into responding to Baron? I was not speaking to you my dear friend. Therefore I could neither "bait" you, nor could you "respond" to me.

Oh and I have never tooted bush's horn, what do you think I am? an Aussie? I am sorry to hear you are tooting horns again even if it is the other way. Very Happy

And lest we forget, who started the thread. It was dead for a long long time and even when K added to it, no one continued. I wish they had but instead we had one person rip on a world leader (and really, what do ANY of US know about what REALLY goes on?) and then someoneone else continued with the criticism. As I mentioned, I do not think Bush is a great leader but he is not as bad as some irresponsibly think.

. And now I am tired and must sign off. Tomorrow I must go fill my car with the free gas that we get from all the oil that was the REAL reason we invaded Iraq. What?? What is that? You mean Gasoline is the highest price it has been in America ever? You mean invading Iraq hasn't gotten us any extra oil or discounts and instead has cost lives and hundreds of billions of tax dollars?

Wow, guess it sure was dumb to try to help people if we don't even get free oil and have to pay out money instead of getting it.

Lets see lots more people respond to 30 questions. I'd love to see it. Only one person has responded in many months but I'd like to see more. bye bye now.
