Is there any advantage or reason to go into a monks cell if there is no one playing that color? Say no one is playing red, if I go into the red cell is there any action I could take?

Not really.
You can avoid meeting a specific person, but you will have to leave on your next turn and you can't do anything while in there.

And since each cell has an empty ante-room attached to it will you most likely be wasting 2 turns which most could have been used to accumulating information.

As I read this, I was thinking...

Since folks like to modify the game anyway, maybe you could put one of the suspect cards with each cell. This way, you would have to go there to see who is there. The person visiting the cell could look at the card, but it has to stay there - or it could be a first-come, first-served thing. Regular Pennace rules apply.

Just a thought. Might make a three-person game last a little longer.
