I'm sure availability of figures won't affect sales of a C&C Napoleonics. There are plenty of figures available for all of the C&C incarnations thus far, but the game sells on fast, fun gameplay and excellent components. I think the game would be massively popular.

Hi all,

I've just uploaded the army card:

Russian Litovski Grenadier Regiment

This famous unit participated in some heavy fighting and distinguished itself for bravery time and time again.

They are Heavy elites with a special ability that costs 1 lore.

Next up: French Medium artillery

Yangtze,

I hope Richard Borg & co do release a Napoleonic game of their own.
Fantasy or historical. It would be interesting for me to
see how close/far they would be from our own version.

As I see it now: our version seems to be a bit more 'difficult' as there are realy a lot of different troops, leaders and special rules. We did this on purpose, trying to come up with a more or less historicaly accurate system that would yet play fast and enjoyable.

I'm also looking forward to introduce some scenarios for Napoleon Wars. Waterloo, Leipzig, Marengo, Quattre Bras, Ligny, Wavre and so on...a great scope for massive games that could just take you through the weekend Cool

Lots of work for us yet. Also: we have yet to introduce the 'minor country' troops: Netherlands, Sweden, Turkey, Spain, Egypt, Bavaria, Hesse, Wurtenberg, Denmark, Naples, North Italy,...loads of interesting stuff.

As it is: take a special look on the pdf files that I've mailed you. They have rules for every nations 'National counters'. With these counters you will be able to more 'historically' customize your army.

The French can buy infantry rerolls, British have an extra firepower counter, Prussia can have a couple of bigger units (5 figure units), Russia has scorched earth counters that make some enemy troops a little weaker....

It work realy well.

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks Tom I'll take a look Smile

Let me know what you think of my Waterloo scenario - might work quite nicely with your rules and units. If you want to playtest on Vassal sometime let me know.

Hi all,

Today, I've added the French Medium Artillery army card to the site.

Also, I can announce that reference sheets will become available soon, as each Nation is completed as far as army cards are concerned.

The next addition to the site: Russian Cuirrasiers.

Have fun,

Hi all,

And yet a new addition: the Artillery Tactical Cards.

The full set has been put on the site.

Together with the previously released cavalry and infantry tactical cards, this makes the set complete to be used with our commander rule and the rules for tactics and lore.

Regularly, we will provide extra cards to add to the deck, creating more variable and interesting situations, adding to the unpredictability of the battle.

Have fun trying those,

Hi all,

Todays addition to the site: The Russian general Bennigsen.

Although not Russian finest commander, Bennigsen nevertheless has a place in History. read about him here.

Next we will see some russian artillery and then...The French Middle Guard.

have fun,

Silverwings

PS: for all those who have our PDF files with rules, note that Bennigsen has increased in PV from 25 to 30.

Hi all,

I've added leaders in the field rules to the site today.

These rules will allow you to use your commander and generals on the board. The rules are based on the Command and Colors game, but have been addapted to suit Napoleon Wars.

Effect for leader casualty, morale and battle have been incorporated as well as the impact on your 'normal' tactical play with the tactic cards.

Next up: French middle guard and rules for light cavalry charging and evading.

Hi all,

Rules for light cavalry have been posted on the site.

They include evade moves and hit-and-run tactics.

Light cavalry will be able to withdraw when under attack and they will be able to charge, fight and get out. Although neither is a certainty and the unit may suffer casualties anyway.

Check them out and have fun.

Guys, honestly. What you are doing may be creative (your web site at least is commendable) but it is a horrible mutation / transfiguration of the game. It gives me pain to see BL raped in that way. It has its flaws but it does not deserve that fate.

Just say "our Napoleonic boardgame using BL's board and dice" and consider posting somewhere else.

If you don't like playing it...don't. Nobody is forcing you.

If you don't like this thread...post somewhere else.

We do not try to 'rape any rules'. The fact that we use them, means we like them.

The site also contains a narrative campaign with stories and characters for use with the standard Battlelore system.

Kind regards,

Silverwings

Don't worry Silverwings, Constant-Whiner is known for his slightly OTT way of putting a point across. He's prepared to say what at least, oh, 3 or 4 other people are thinking Wink

Speaking as someone who's tag-line is tolerance and compassion, I'm not sure I can entirely condone his methods, but I do look forward to his outrageous postings. He and the Raven are equally legendary in my little book of Battlelore characters.

He does have a point of sorts, though, in that what you have here isn't really recognisably Battlelore any more. But sending you to 'off-topic' seems a bit harsh. There isn't really a proper space to discuss user variants.

Do you think, Constant-Whiner? A little harsh?

I stand by my guns.

I had this Napoleonic "extension" in my sights for quite some time.
You should have seen the first version of my posting (before I decided to water it down a bit). I have grown to become a much milder person I suppose ...

It's good to disagree, with respect, of course. I've had a good look at the rules myself, as I have a copy of "Napoleon in Europe", which comes with large numbers of miniatures, but the game itself takes 10 - 20 hours to play. As I like eating, sleeping, and prefer a variety of opponents, BL is the perfect game, which plays big but in a short time. I think that this Napoleonic version is good and well thought-out.

However, having had a look at Memoir 44 (which I haven't bought yet), I wonder if a Napoleonic game suits that publication better?

Napoleonics fits better with Battle Cry, I think. you don't have the problems with cards like Darken the Sky and so on then. But if a bunch of Battlelore enthusiasts want to try Napoleonics and they don't have Battle Cry, why not?

I do hope DoW decide to run with the Napoleonic version. Or buy the rights to Battle Cry and produce Napoleonics as an expansion. You'd only need two armies in typical uniforms. Special unit types could be distinguished by some custom badges. Then you'd only need an additional rule and scenario book.

Re:Napoleonic Rules for Battlelore Mon, 21 January 2008 09:41
Actually, I do not try to make any money or produce something official or whatever of the sort.

I am part of a small group of wargamers that are having fun with battlelore and we just happened to come up with a Napoleonic version of it.

While I agree with some of the comments made, I must say that I think Battlecry is the least of the series although coming closest to the Napoleonic age. The command cards may, however, match the ones more closely to the Napoleonic version. So for all those people who own battlecry: do use these command cards if you prefer them.

We are just gamers sharing our gaming experience with others. As always there are plusses and minuses and peolple who like it and people who don't.

As with everything on the internet, I say: if you like it, visit the site and have fun. If you don't like it: fine also -> don't visit and don't play it, but allow people who do like it do their thing.

Respect for all is the key.

I do think, however, if a lot of talking is going on about a thread, subject or game...it is at least worth looking at... Razz

Absolutely Silverwings, keep it going!

I should clarify my last post though. My understanding is that Richard already has a Napoleonic C&C game out there and this is the game I would hope DoW produce.

I agree with you, I think there would be strong interest in an R. Borg Napoleonic title.

Silverwings ,you and you,re gaming friends have spent a lot of time making this system and sharing it with other people who like the battlelore system and especially a napoleonic version of it which is simply what this is ,so dont worry about constant whinger or whatever his name is as you are doing a great job and its much appreciated by a lot of people.I think that you're version is totally relevant on this site as battlelore is the basis for youre system and you,ve created a variant of it ,in fact i think you should post over on boardgame geek as well as a lot of people over there would love what you have done with the battlelore system. Also i would like to say to permanent whiner or whatever the whingers name is that if you dont like a thread dont read it ,i just dont understand why as you said youve been looking at this thread for a while and felt compelled to write that you want it off the battlelore forums ,whats the problem ,how does it negatively effect your viewing of the forum ? i just dont get it,anyway keep up the good work silverwings.

Take a look.

I own Napoleon in Europe too... It's amazingly cool but I have never found enough time to set it up, let alone play. I was thinking this might be a good use of all those 1/72 minis... and it's very adaptable despite what whiney-dude has to stay.

I agree with you Sam. I played the game once while on holiday (the shorter version). It took two days, and was a great game. However, I've spent more time since working out what different things I could do with the figures!

If anyone wants 600+ Napoleonic 'generic' models, I recommend buying the game even if you don't ever play it!

Hi all,

Today sees the release of French Militia on our site.

In times of great need, Napoleon would send untrained infantry into battle. At some point France was so short of manpower, that you boys were put into service.

These troops are represented by Militia.

Militia are Frightened like goblins in the standard Battlelore game and have 2/1/1 as battledice.

They count as line infantry for moving and hits.

Hi all,

Todays addition to the site: Russian Light Artillery.

Light artillery has a shorter range, but is easier to move, especially when mounted. Ideal for some fire support for close assaults.

I can now also announce that I will, over the course of the next few days, put online our first Scenario for Napoleonic Wars.

It will feature the struggle between Russians and French over the supplies on the plains of mother Russia. The French were desperate for supplies in their mad drive for Moscow while the Russian tried to salvage as much as possible and burn the rest before the French army could take it.

An exciting scenario will pit a larger French force against a Russian rearguard near a warehouse filled with supplies.

Hope you'll enjou it!

Hi all,

Today sees the release of the first British cavalry: British Hussars.

Today and tomorrow we will be working on a new section for our Napoleonic Wars mod: te first scenario, pitting the French of la Grande Armée against Kutusovs retreating rear guard, as the Russians leave noting but scorched earth for the French on the plains of Mother Russia.

Hi all,

Today wehave put the first Napoleon Wars Scenario on the site.

Russia and France fight over valuable supplies on the rugged terrain of Mother Russia.

France has superior forces, but suffers from shortage of supplies (Russian corched Earth markers). Russia holds defensive terrain and needs to hang on to the resources as long as possible.

Re:Napoleonic Rules for Battlelore Sat, 02 February 2008 00:05
I asked the same question directly at Silverwings' site - this is the answer I got:

Q: How many figures does each unit get? (We are assuming 4 for infantry, 3 for cavalry, 2 for artillery)

A: Yes: infantry get 4, cav 3 and art actualy get 1 gun and 3 crew. When the 3 crew are dead, the gun is also removed.

FYI, I also asked:
Q: What is a good point value to try an introductory game at - 500 pts?

A: 500 PV with maximum 6 levels of 'war council'-commanders and generals is the right size. Make sure to follow the army building procedure to get a balanced game.
If not you might end up with a Guard army Smile

Also, don't forget the National counters. Especially the French reroll is very powerful.

Larger battles are possible, but I would recommend using the Epic board and rules for them. A Waterloo scenari for example is realy cool when fought over the Epic board.

Hope this helps

We have tried your rules set for several games now, and find that it plays out very well. We did find several typos, but nothing that earth shattering.

I do have one question. In the Russian army list, you list scorched earth counters, but I can not find how they work. Could you please explain these counters.

Keep up the good work,

Thank-you

Re:Napoleonic Rules for Battlelore Tue, 05 February 2008 11:11
Hi Inquisitor,

We have tried to give each Nation a 'historical feel' by introducing these National counters (Scorched Earth is the Russian National counter). Historically, The Russian used this tactic to great effect against the French, when Napoleon invaded Russia.

Like all National counters, Scorched Earth cost 5 PV and you may have a maximum of 1 per 100 PV of the army.

At the start of the battle, before setting up forces, the counters are handed to the player that is opposing the Russian player (to the enemy...)

The enemy player may choose which of his units he assigns the counters to (a maximum of 1 per unit). The affected units are at -1 combat D in melee/point blank for the entire battle, as they suffer from lack of food, ammo and other supplies.

This is a very nasty type of counter, although the opposing player may choose which units will be affected.

The French National counters, for example, allow the French player to force 1 dice reroll that is made by or against any of its line infantry units. The counter is then spend, all dice must be rerolled and the second results are final.

I hope this clarifies the Scorched Earth rules. If not...let me know and illustrate with an example.

Best regards,

Silverwings

Hi all,

I've added British light infantry to the site today.

The British light regiments were the most effective of their age, having been reformed by general John Moore.

Next addition: Highlanders!

Take a look. Have fun.

Hi all,

Today we have 2 additions to the site:

British Highlanders : These troops had high morale and were known for their ferocity and efficiency. We made them bold, costing 30 PV. This makes them even to French Grenadiers for example.

Russian Cossacks : Cossacks were used by Russia as hit and run terror teams. They were vastly efficient and caused terror among their enemies. We made them light cav (with all the rules for light cav) plus we also provided special abilities to increase their staying power.

Next up: A new leader card for France. PREVIOUSLY un-edited! So, all people who already received copies of the PDF file of Napoleon Wars : this leader will also be new for you...We will give you: General Friant.

Have fun,

Silverwings
