Scoring Flying Dutchman Fri, 27 February 2009 04:31
I don't understand how to keep track of the Flying Dutchman. How do I know how many points he regains after each battle? I can't figure out the rule of the 5+2, recover up to 2. How do I know how many to add?

Our family of 5 (3 kids-14,12 and 6) really enjoy this game.

Thank you,
Scott

The Flying Dutchman always regains 2 hull points after each combat round, but she cannot exceed 5 hull points.

Example:
A and B fight against the FD.

A fires a volley and scores 2 hits.
B fires a volley and scores 1 hit.
FD fires a volley and scores 1 hit against A, which has the largest crew.

The FD has been hit three times and loses 3 hull points, but she regains 2 points after this first combat round, starting the second one with 4 hull points.

Second battle round: A and B are unlucky and do not score any hit against the FD. The FD scores a hit against A.

The FD has not been hit and loses no hull point, but as a second combat round has elapsed, she regains 1 point (only 1 this time, because she cannot exceed 5).

Third battle round: this time, A scores 3 hits and B scores 2 hits. As a result, the FD sinks immediately. She cannot recover any hull points.

As you can see, it is difficult to defeat the Flying Dutchman without help from the other players, unless you have a lot of cannons and a good crew.

Hope it helps.
