Looks like there's going to be a nice urban battle...

I wish I could get it! Very Happy Not even the Tigers in the Snow are available here, so perhaps this will remain a dream...

Will there be briefings for the missions (available apart from the scenario) and place where we could post AARs?

Most likely it will be done the same way "Tigers in the snow" was done, as a classified scenario.

Includes the briefing and possibility for AAR, but not the map.

I'm sure that's the way it'll work. That way you still need to buy the map (although you would be hard-pressed to create the map on your own since there are so many repeated tiles in most of the pre-printed maps) but we're all able to read the background and post AAR reports.

The addition of new cards is more exciting to me each time I think about it!! Very Happy

I am getting an invalid color pallet error when opening the new rules page...

http://static0.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/lang/english/images /mm_op3_rules_en.pdf

It finally opened after multiple attempts so it is probably an issue with Windows 7, Acrobat Reader or Firefox...

Adding a new Combat Deck to work with the Command Deck will open many new options for the M'44 and Command and Colors product lines.

It is really nice to see something new following the success of the Campaign Book.

And it will only be a matter of time before Yangtze releases a sheet on how to retro-fit the combat deck to older scenarios. Laughing

And it will most likely give us a new chapter in the FAQ book.

The new cards opens up a lot of possibilities in the game and can be a great way to do some damage and change the tide of the battle. The new scenario descriptions look great.

I just noticed this has a revised Behind Enemy Lines card, presumably fixing the error. Or is this revised for another reason?

If this fixes the error, I hope it has a couple (3 would be nice) as I have multiple decks of cards.

Stalingrad? Fabulous! Smile

Are the regular scenarios Stalingrad themed, or general eastern front situations?

Looking forward to seeing what the new command cards do. Do they work with regular scenarios, or only with Overlord?

They work with regular scenarios too.

Says in the rule: Deal 2 cards to each in stardard scenarios and 1 card for each Field general in overlord.
http://static0.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/lang/english/images /mm_op3_rules_en.pdf

It would be scenario specific if combat deck is used. So a bit like Air rules, where scenario description tells us if the deck is to be used or not.

The regular scenarios are named: "Mamayev Kurgan" and "Pavlov, Hero of the Soviet Union"
I don't know enough about the war to tell anything from the names about what they desribe. Does the names mean anything to you?

Dear Yangtze, you are silly. AD79 is right, and if you had bothered to read all of the material available you would have known this... Embarassed

Haven't seen them all, but it looks to me like these cards could be retrofitted to *any* scenario that has at least a few town hexes dotted about, with the agreement of both players of course.

Don't be too harsh with yourself now.

I think the "ARMOR FORWARD" could be a great one for the german to have in the "Market Garden" scenario from Tigers in the snow. Would bring that lone Tiger and panzers into play alot easier. Tanks can get very dangerous with this card.

Yes, and on second thoughts, although some of the cards appear to work best with town hexes (which makes sense for an urban war themed deck), there will probably be enough variety in them to work with any scenario?

Maybe there will be desert, early war, and other themed decks to come???

Any card that negotiates terrain movement can be used in any scenario. Will be a valuable card for troop movements. Especially in the pacific jungles and in Hedgerows.

A natural follow up would be something like Air Combat deck or more cards that gives options for airplanes.

Also a winter combat deck for eastern front with units developing trench feets, equipment breakdowns and frozen rifles etc.

Then again, it says "When Combat rules are in effect", which isn't stated in any of the older scenarios (since the rules didn't exist)...

Obviously, in desert or open country with no buildings, Street fighting wouldn't be very useful! Very Happy

then it brings a new idea of another combat deck, maybe River/Jungle/Hill/Beach/Caves/Marsh combat deck, so for scenarios that has this type of terrain, the combat deck will be playable, that's fun! Very Happy

I've preordered my copy! If you want to 'prepare' yourself for the upcoming expansion, I highly recommend Antony Beevor's Stalingrad. This is a history book that reads like a novel. You will not be able to put it down. The brutality of this battle was frightening. Pavlov was a Colonel-General commander on the central front in June '41. He was accused of treason and executed. Mamayev Kurgan is the highest hill in Stalingrad.

Hey Paletti,

the Hedgerow Hell and Tigers in the Snow are now available (HH was already available a long time) in the Dutch stores! (www.spellenhuis.nl) I asked them when they had them in the store (TitS/Sword of Stalingrad) and the TitS they had just added and the other one will be out soon as well...Very Happy

It says "requires overlord / two copies of base game" to play- presumably you could still play the bonus scenarios and use the combat deck without overlord? just wouldn't be able to play the big scenarios.

NOT A STAND ALONE GAME! Requires one copy of Memoir '44 and the Operation Overlord expansion, or two full copies of Memoir '44.

The two Standard scenarios also require a copy of the Eastern Front and Terrain Pack for set-up; and purists wishing to use all figures of the proper color in the Overlord scenarios will need two copies of the Eastern Front expansion

From the The Sword of Stalingrad page.

From the wording it looks like you need more units than are included in the basegame and Eastern Front, since it says the standard scenarios also require. Might need to have that confirmed. But you could use your japanese figures and british if you have them.

The reason I think you need more units to play these scenarios is because "Tigers In the Snow" had a different wording about the standard scenarios.

The bonus two Standard scenarios only require one copy of Memoir '44 and the Terrain Pack to play.

From Tigers in the Snow page.

But it does mention the requirements for the two regular scenarios: TP + EF! Nothing else! Purists may have figures of the same color in OVERLORD battles!

Just let us think logically: Which element of Operation Overlord would be used in a regular scenario? The card deck? Extra dice? Yeah, there might be more figures than usual; I agree, let us wait for an official clarification. Smile

I would have to disagree about needing more troops for the standard maps. DoW is not going to create a standard map that can't be played with normal expansions!

That line simply refers to the fact that you may need terrain and troops from the Eastern Front and terrain from the Terrain Pack.

I agree the standard scenarios should be playable without Overlord or 2 basegame, but the wording is different than it was for Tigers.

If we go back to the announcement itself and take it at face value, we may find our answer:

Quote:

This tells us that for the Standard scenarios, you also need a copy of the Eastern Front and Terrain Pack. The word "a" tells us we need one of each of those expansions! I think you may be reading too much into the different wording...DoW may not have even thought to look back and keep the wording consistent (I know I wouldn't have thought to do that). Very Happy

I know I might be reading to much into it, but as it stands it isn't clear if we need Operation Overlord for the standard scenarios or not.

We will probably get the answer very soon from an someone at DoW.
