Overlord Into Standard Size Scenarios Wed, 23 December 2009 06:05
Although an Overlord Battle Map Series scenario, as many have expressed, is best played with four players per side, eight total Memoir enthusiasts, let me suggest another possible play option especially if it is just you and your buddy or if you only have a single Memoir game.

Take an Overlord battle map and fold it in half. This action will create a standard size battle map. The half hexes that are on the fold should be treated as a full hex for this play option.

Should either side be short any units or other pieces (sandbags, wire, mines, etc.) the player that is short has a choice and must decide which units, etc, not to deploy. If both sides are short, the attacking player must decide and deploy first, and then the defending player.

Cut the number of Command cards as noted for Overlord for each side in half, rounding down.

Cut the number of Victory Medals needed in half, rounding up.

The Battlefield Victory objectives and the Special rules as listed for the Overlord scenario are still in effect.

Use a single standard Memoir Command card deck and play the scenario as you would any standard battle.

With this play option, The Battle Map Series - Volume 3 Sword of Stalingrad expansion will provide six standard scenarios. Four created from the Overlord maps and two standard scenarios that are included.

We have played many Overlord battles using these options and have found them to be interesting and very challenging.

Merry Christmas!

In regards to the 1/2, does it matter which 1/2 - i.e. is that 1/2 per section or what. Little confused here on how the 1/2 is done.

Merry Xmas

Hi Cab
As long as you fold the Overlord map along red dotted lines, so it creates a battlefield of three sections with a left flank, center and right flank for each player, you can turn any Overlord Battle Map into a standard size battlefield.

Reality is that one side of a Overlord Battle Map can actually create four different standard size battlefields by folding it in various combinations. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas

It's official.

There is no longer any reason for players of Memoir '44 not to buy the Overlord Battle Maps! Cool Each Battle Map is packed with play options for regular board battles...thanks for sharing, Richard!

Merry Christmas, all. Smile

It means if you don't have enough units to put them all on the board. The overlord map uses to Memoir'44 boxes, so if you play a half overlord map with only one Memoir box, it could depend on where you fold the map that you will not have enough units. Then you must decide which units you will not place on the board.

Yes, very good idea, and i thinking about, to try this also in other direction.
Because there are still to less official desert-OL-maps,
i will do this next with the mediterranean scenarios Razz

And still hoping for official OL scenarios in desert, or a new campaign-book, playing in North Africa Rolling Eyes
