Congratulations to Buidheo and Alwan.
Inexplicably, the Officer career sheet of Alwan does not show his promotion to Colonel. Could you tell us when it happened?
Alwan is not only the first general with less than 1000 standard games, I believe he is also the first with less than 200 expert games.

I wonder if the expert bit in the hint only refers to expert games or includes playing and winning the standard scenarios again just to make sure you're definitely an expert...

I won all standard scenarios three times since becoming Oberst, and since then I also had both more overall games and wins as Alwan. It can only be Expert games and wins I am still missing.

Thank you very much.
When the rank of General became available, I was one of the initial defenders of the SFTF aka the "expert" scenarios as a path to promotion. So, since the rank became available, I played mostly those expert scenarios. I have also created my share of scenarios (about 12).
A few weeks ago, I got a bit bored of striving towards that promotion, and I had other things going on in my off-line life. I took a pseudo-break from Memoir44, playing much less (1 match every few days) and reading the forum.
A few days ago, I read AIwan's post about his promotion, in which he stated that I was actually close by if his theory is correct. Well, I suppose it is correct, because only a few expert games later, I got promoted - of course, after a standard game.
I did not play or win all scenarios since becoming a colonel. I did win the 4 newest scenarios from both sides.

Playing and winning from both sides isn't a must for Colonels (or Brigadiers yet). I did it because I could.

Hrr hmmm [clearing throat]
Sorry 'bout that gents. It's become a little dry in here as of late - and I'm not referring to the martinis.
Congratulations of course to the new Brigadiers... sorry if the hospitality has been a bit, shall we say, lax, of late. Guess all the "one stars" have more important matters to attend to other than sit around this rather empty tent and swap war stories.
Perfectly understandable. There's a war on for gosh sakes and who wants to listen to a bunch of old blow hards recounting their glory days anyway? Me, well I'm perfectly fine with taking a break and resting these old bones by the fire - provided the bar remains well-stocked of course. Terrible tragedy should it ever run dry... Reminds me of the time I was in Tunisa facing certain defeat when I... oh, there I go again.
Love to hear your tales, ol chaps, love to. When you've got the time of course. No hurry. As long as they keep that infernal parrot out of here.
I say! Was that a duck I just saw run by?

Hmm ... you ask how I made it here?
Well ... after I became Oberst, I set myself two goals: winning all scenarios three times from each side, and reaching 1000 games or more. In spite of my involuntary break, I had already worked a great step towards those goals when the rank of General was activated. And by doing so, I was sure to have fulfilled any possible standard scenario requirement.
Where I was lacking everything was the SFTF area. I had not a single game under my belt when the new rank became available. As it looked that you needed 100 expert wins and a certain number of expert scenarios won from both sides, I began to collect victories and changed to another map each time I scored one. Aiwan's experience showed me that this was the right strategy.
Maybe I could have reached my current rank even earlier, because I played only expert for the last two weeks and was promoted after my next standard game. But I wanted to go for sure, so I went for around 110-115 expert wins. As it seems, solo games also count if expert.

Dear Sirs,
My promotion caught me by surprise. It wasn't the glorious victory that got me one, but a humiliating defeat at Eastern Front.
I only realized it today - in fact WiredNun noticed my rank during Invasion of Saipan (http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=29 372094).
What was the criterion for my promotion I still can't comprehend!
Before the rank was even issued, like Turboheizer, I have set a goal to win ALL standard scenarios twice on both sides. After achieving that, I raised the bar to 3 times per scenario. Just before reaching this, new ranks were out and I realized that I have completely missed the objective, neglecting the expert scenarios alltogether.
Then I've heard on the Forum that one must have at least 5 expert scenarios per theatre of war won on both sides. I had that accomplished couple of weeks ago if you count expert scenarios that were in the meantime removed. I continued to play and managed to gain 5 or more ACTIVE expert scenarios won on both sides at all theatres. That didn't trigger anything.
Loosing Russian side at Red Barricades did it. Go figure.
Maybe the requirements are already published somewhere, but I can't digest all that is being published on the Forum. BTW the forum search engine sux big time. Due to time constraints I didn't create any expert scenarios - so that isn't a requirement for sure.
Looking forward to more exciting and frustrating battles with you guys!

Hi everybody
Round of drinks for everybody
It was a long journey and I didn't expect to joign you so fast. I'm very happy to catch you up and I guessed that I needed more victories to achieve the promotion.
In fact, I've won 105 expert games, against real oponents, since I was Colonel. And surprisiling, I was promoted the game after, even if I lost it. I've only played 400 standard games and won a few of them, but not each one them.
I've no more clue to explain the promotion requirements.
Thanks for the tips in the forum that helped me all through my games.
And now, I hope to be caught up with other French players.

Can someone just confirm.
To become a Brigadier, do you have to win SFTF in normal mode or Expert Mode......or is there no difference as long as you are on SFTF?

Well, if I click on Play (instead of Play in Expert Mode), I can then select the SFTF tab and chose play (or play solo).
If I click on Play in Expert Mode it defaults to the SFTF tab.

Yes, they are just two ways of getting to the same place. By having the button on the main page, it draws more attention to the fact that you can play Expert Mode...and takes you directly to that kind of battle. But once you're in, you can switch between Normal and Expert games however you want.
So to answer your question, you can go through either method and as long as the "Expert" tab is clicked, you'll be gaining Expert Battles for your promotion.

No idea on the number of battles - I played every STFT game from both sides until I won each. Assuming there are, say 40 games, and I win 2/3 of the time, that is about 120 games by my math.

I have won over 150 games in Expert mode and have not been promoted, so this ALONE is not a sufficient criteria for promotion. A little more of a winning formula is needed.

Have you won 150 different games?
I mean, twice the same scenario from the same side is no "different" win.

I'll change that to:
Have you won 100 different games? (e.g. not twice the same one from the same side?)
Other thing: I think all brigadiers won the 4 newest official scenarii from both sides.

Yes, I am getting there.
I have already won all the official scenaris from both sides as a precaution, so that is not an issue.
I am taking a break but expect to make BG sometime in June. I am taking some time off from the game until June 6.
