Actually, this conversation makes me think of an e-mail I got from my mom recently. Check it out:

First of: we must be starved for diversion if one of the uppermost topics is not about M44 at all, but started with a mistake one of us made.

As ridiculous as the last paragraphs looks it was completely understandable. The other problem they face in "streamlining" written language is that a simple "e" is pronounced differently in different languages. That would take some "ironing out" over different borders.
But that being said I do find that there is a sound logic to the underlying premise: let's make language more logical so more people can communicate with it.
I myself speak dutch which is very hard to learn because not only do we have the problem described above of not writing phonetically (Envy the finnish and Italian as they do (almost) spell phonetically) we have rules and than about half of the language is exceptions to those rules.
Wouldn't it be nice if we all could talk to each other in a language we could all understand. (Not all communication is positive mind you: "Your money or your life" is easier to ignore if the dude says: "Rahat tai henki"

As a community, I think it indicates a healthy level of comfort with each other if we can joke and have fun about topics beyond just the game!

I've always been a bad speller and with all of the random little rules out there about silent letters, double letters, combinations, and multiple sounds made by the same letter, it can be tough to find the right combination. Spell check is my friend!!  And you're right...the last paragraph is still decipherable, but it's not easy. It just goes to show how trained we are to read (and write) in the crazy way our languages work.
