Ah, my mistake! Phorgive me, please.
Actually, this conversation makes me think of an e-mail I got from my mom recently. Check it out:
| Quote: | European Union English
Having chosen English as the preferred language in the EK, the European Parliament commissioned a 1996 feasibility study in ways of improving efficiency in communications between Government departments.
European officials have often pointed out that English spelling is unnecessarily difficult; for example, cough, plough, rough, through and thorough. What they suggested was a phased programme of changes to iron out these anomalies. The programme would, of course, be administered by a committee staff at the top level by participating nations.
In the first year, for example, the committee suggested using 's' instead of the soft 'c'. Sertainly, sivil servants in all sities would resieve this news with joy. Then the hard 'c' could be replaced by 'k' sinse both letters are pronounced alike. Not only would this klear up konfusion in the minds of klerikal workers, but typewriters could be made with one less key.
There would be growing enthusiasm when in the second year, it kould be announced that the troublesome 'ph' would henseforth be written 'f'. This would make words like fotograf twenty per sent shorter in print.
In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expected to reash the stage where more komplikated shanges are possible. Governments would encourage the removal of double leters whish have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.
We would al agre that the horrible mes of silent 'e's in the language is disgrasful. Therfor we kould drop thes and kontinu to red and writ as though nothing had happend. By this tim it would be four years sins the skem began and people would be reseptiv to steps sush as replasing 'th' by 'z' Perhaps zen ze function of 'w' would be taken on by 'v', vitsh is, after al, haf a 'w'. Shortly after zis, ze unesesary 'o' kould be dropd from words containing 'ou'. Similar arguments wud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.
Kontinuing zis proses yer after yer, we wud eventuali hav a reli sensibl riten stil. After tventi yers zer wud be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vud find it ezi tu understand esh ozer. Ze drems of the Guvernment vud finali hav kum tru.

First of: we must be starved for diversion if one of the uppermost topics is not about M44 at all, but started with a mistake one of us made.
@Rasmussen
As ridiculous as the last paragraphs looks it was completely understandable. The other problem they face in "streamlining" written language is that a simple "e" is pronounced differently in different languages. That would take some "ironing out" over different borders.
But that being said I do find that there is a sound logic to the underlying premise: let's make language more logical so more people can communicate with it.
I myself speak dutch which is very hard to learn because not only do we have the problem described above of not writing phonetically (Envy the finnish and Italian as they do (almost) spell phonetically) we have rules and than about half of the language is exceptions to those rules.
Wouldn't it be nice if we all could talk to each other in a language we could all understand. (Not all communication is positive mind you: "Your money or your life" is easier to ignore if the dude says: "Rahat tai henki"

As a community, I think it indicates a healthy level of comfort with each other if we can joke and have fun about topics beyond just the game!

I've always been a bad speller and with all of the random little rules out there about silent letters, double letters, combinations, and multiple sounds made by the same letter, it can be tough to find the right combination. Spell check is my friend!! And you're right...the last paragraph is still decipherable, but it's not easy. It just goes to show how trained we are to read (and write) in the crazy way our languages work.
