Cursed Ability and Not Being Able to Afford Tax Wed, 17 April 2013 19:09
I just got the Cursed expansion, and it brought about a new question for me.

The Cursed special power requires you to pay 3 victory coins, instead of 1, as tax for passing up that race when selecting an army. If this shows up at the start or the game (when you only have 5 coins), it is possible you cannot pay the tax for an army you want to pick.

What do you do in such a situation? I'm assuming if you can't pay the tax, you can't pick the army you want. Is this correct?

Yes, this is correct. If Cursed comes into the game early on and is near the bottom of the stack (where everyone has to pass it) your choices will be much more limited than normal.

You can only buy your way up the list until you run out of money, so the Cursed power can really change the game at the very start, since people can't pick the race they want and money quickly stacks up on this negative combination. Cool

When we were playing with Cursed power in the game for the first time, we decided that if Cursed comes in the first draw of races and powers, we just shuffle all this once more : ))
Of cause it is just a "home rules" variant.

I like it either as the 1st race or {# of players] + 1 down.
