Copyright of fan-made expansions Sun, 26 January 2014 00:22
I see that there are a lot of fan-made expansions of Ticket to Ride.
What does the copyright say about these?

If I would like to create my own fan made expansion, then:

- Is there an offical way of getting the original art (that I can see other expansions are using?)
- Do I have to register somewhere?
- I understand that I can not sell the expansion, but if I would like it to become widly available, can I ask people to pay for the print job and materials?
- What else do I need to consider before engaging in this activity?

The best way would be to send a Private Message to one of the Days of Wonder crew. "eric" is a good start, or "MarcoPolo".

No. If you get permission to use TTR art, you can just post your project in your User Page or over on Board Game Geek. If it's good enough, Days of Wonder might even link it on their web page.

No, you wouldn't be allowed to take any money for it at all. Basically you would post the files online and people would print and make the expansion on their own. You could, of course make it for friends and have them pay for it, but I don't thnk you could charge in any way.

I'm sure this is something you've already thought of, but make sure to test your map a whole lot before doing any of the beautifying...also make sure to look around at the expansions and fan maps that are already available (also something you've probably already done).

Have fun and good luck! Cool
