What did u guys play in your tournaments ?

USA national championship is made of 3 multis (US and Euro) to cut off top 8, then Mega multi to cut off top 2.

I don't think US organizers remember how well the American guy did in the World Championship last time.

Maximour got his ticket to the National Championship too.

I don't know if DoW still plans on organizing an online tournament like it is mentioned on their page.

Conditions of contest were to play 4 multis - 2 US, 1 Germany (nice, not even available in any shop Evil or Very Mad ), 1 Asia.
Unfortunately Rolling Eyes this was not to be, because the boards for Germany and Asia were not delivered in time Laughing
So it was 4 times multi US after all.

Grats to DOW, they managed to get Angel's interest back by finding an event he hasn't won yet Wink
Gooooooooooo for gold, Angel!

Yes, in Austria only 4 multis to Paris Embarassed

29 players, 5 strong, 24 no real chance at all.

But to be honest, the more games I have to play, the more I believe that I'll win Laughing

I think the Swizz mode was very good and fair in Austria:
afer 3 games, the 5 best players already had the first 5 places, and so a real final game decided who would go to Paris.

Of course, we 5 could have played 10 final games, but nothing else but a worthy player would have been selected Wink

Hio-hoi

Yep, I qualified from Finland.

Quite interesting tournament by choices of games:

Qualifying round: (15 players)
3 times 5er US multis with changing tables

Semi-final: (8 players)
1 game 4er EU in two tables -> 2 best in finals

Final: (4 players)
Just one game with Nederland-map, lol

I saw it 1st time in my life, but made it. So I won all 5 games in tournament and got ticket to Paris. Tournament system let a good change for luck too, but I was the luckiest it seems Wink

In Paris we shall meet!
Val

Hard to qualify at the French national championship when you live in the US Wink and with no tournament organized within 1000 km of Salt Lake...

We compensate by playing 7 wonders with our TTR neighbors !

Re:TTR World Championship Sun, 15 June 2014 06:40
I heard that our 3 Italian representatives at the national championship (LOCA, PELLO and Dandee) finished in the top 4 of the event today (the day Italy played in the World Cup)

LeGoupil, LordPepper, Maximour, Davidb9, RMarkes, Alautre, TrainTrain and Toon37 (sorry if I forget some names) will play the French national Championship tomorrow, the day France plays their first WC match against Honduras.

Cat, JenAck and Haxxli will play the final in the Swiss championship (they are 3 out of 4 finalists if I am not mistaken).

Guys, can we have some feedback ?

What did you think of the general level of play ?
Did you think the format promoted high level skills ?
Did you think the event was fair overall ?

Here's a nice video from the Czech finale :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGYGcEWmDVQ&feature=yout u.be
I believe Maia is blue with a nice combo Smile
Quite the spank !
I like the commentators' excitement when maia counts her points at the end !

Thanks for your input !
And grats.

Italian Championship

78 winner players eligible from tournament all over Italy, 44 players were yesterday in Bologna for playing.

4 game to play "4p Europe" giving points for overall ranking. 10p for the winner , 6p for the second , 3p for the third , 1p for the last.
For same position, ranking with game points done.
At the end of 4 games, the first 4 in ranking should play the final always 4p Europe. Was clear we needed about 36 points for having strong chances.

At the end of 4th game, I was the only in the Championship with 40 points. Loca 36 point was second with more game points of another player. Dandee reached 32 points and luckily was 4th because a girl with 30 points after 3 games failed to do best of 4th place in the last game.

So Final with 3 online gamers .
I did my best with Danzic + Amst-Wilno + longest. 123 points.

Dandee did his best with Athina and bad combo and battle with Loca around Palermo. Last.

Loca and the 4th player had more chances for tix, Loca PA-MO and the other BREST-PETRO but didn't played their best game. Second Loca with 116 points (3 tix) and third the other player with 115 points (3 tix).

So definitely was my day , 5 games of 5 won. I'll be in Paris Surprised

About Questions:
What did you think of the general level of play ?
Low quality. Except Loca and Dandee, about 5 good players of 42 (good, not strong). The others walking through middle Europe reaching low scores.

Did you think the format promoted high level skills ?
The Final was between 4 stronger players, so target reached. But not sure was the best format.

Did you think the event was fair overall ?
The Final day was fair.
Not sure of previous tournament before Final Day. I needed 5 games USA/EU/NETH for qualifying. Loca 2 games US map (one 3p and the final 4p). Dandee 3 games US map 4p. And I dunno the others.

LG fini 3ème

Using points as a tiebreaker is still not relevant, nor a good measure of skill.
What if you, Goupil, were the one cut from the top 4 because of points ?

Maximour seems to have played 2 3ers while others were playing 4ers ?
3er and 4er is really not the same game, nor the same scoring, how can you compare that ?

Re:TTR World Championship Sun, 15 June 2014 23:33
Wink David.

Good to hear that the atmosphere was great.

Ok then the 3er makes sense in that case. But it's still mixing up apples and oranges.
It seems that where DoW is running the tournament, the format/organization looks more serious than with a local association in charge.

It seems that the gap between online and offline players is pretty huge in most of the countries.
Thanks for the feedback !

The gap is really huge if we play the online maps or similar maps.

Netherlands and in minor degree Marklin can give problems

Re:TTR World Championship Mon, 16 June 2014 00:07
Well, also because there are different mecanisms involved.

Nederland, with my little experience, is pretty similar as Mega, heavy fiending oriented. Therefore fairly pointless in a tournament. The highest the final score is, the less likely are knowing what they are doing/are able to know what's going on.
Especially if you play only one time a map, you cannot identify a pattern of skill.

Memoir 44 does something great : they develop specific maps for tournaments. But the test of the map has to help the best players show a pattern of skills.
If you play Mega 4er one time. The winner will get a major boost to win 5000 dollars without showing anything special.
If you play it 10 times, all 4 players will probably one time. There won't be a pattern showing any kind of skills.

That's why I open a thread about the maps to know better the other maps available. All the maps are good for fun, not they are not all suited to tournaments. The more feedback, the better.

But if you call that Tournament World Championship, with such a big prize, the choice of map has to make sense.
In Paris, Asia, Europe and US seem like a good and logical choice, especially in a swiss-round style.
