It looks like alektacrome may now be named "alektacrome ~ Wanadoo" - try PMing that.

Also, did you two remember to specify a time zone for your meeting? alektacrome is in Paris, and you are in Zurich. Does that put you in the same time zone?

Re:Open tournament Tue, 21 June 2005 03:03
I wish to remind everyone that both players should PM me with results of the games. I realise there is little incentive for the loser to do this, but it would be appreciated, so as to avoid any possibility of disputes later. (Not that I won't summarily slap down objections from players who fail to send me results by the deadline anyway...) So far, I have several results sent to me by players claiming the win, but I don't think I have any PMs from players admitting the loss.

Alektacrome can't read PM because he plays via wanadoo

But I know he's serious ans as he didn't play at all yesterday, I guess he has troubles

I send him an email right now.

Please torsten be patient, alektacrome deserves it Wink

torsten - alektacrome 2nd part

How we meet in the lobby without appointment. He apologized for yesterday. Than we played the first match and I won with 133 - 82. The second started but he was going out without telling s.o. and not coming back.
Somebody in the lobby said that he was going to a music party tonight.

Better luck tomorrow
But it wasted my time

there are problems with players who can't have appointments or who don't respect appointments.....

Is it possible not to punish the player who really tries to play the games ?

Montezuma and I played our games this evening.

Rode katers won with 3-1.
The scores are:

1. Rode katers Razz 132 montezuma: Crying or Very Sad 102
2. Rode katers Crying or Very Sad 94 montezuma: Razz 132
3. Rode katers Razz 116 montezuma: Crying or Very Sad 91
4. Rode katers Razz 100 montezuma: Crying or Very Sad 77

I don't remember all our tickets, but...

In the first game I made more use of the sixes and fives and had the longer route.

In the second game I had lousy tickets (as far as I remember Chi-NO and Dal-NY) and montezuma made a very nice route Duluth-Houston, don't remember his other ticket. Montezuma had the longest route.

In the third game I blocked him out the west completely. That made him not make the Portland-Atl ticket. That was one of the five, the other ones I don't recal. I had Cal-Pho and Den-ElP and the longest route.

The fourth game I had Bos-Mia and NY-NO. I had to go all the way around and found myself two trains short. Montezuma had a nice collection of about 6 lousy tickets. He didn't make two of them. I had the longest route.

Lorus and I played our games tonight.

Game 1: red wins 112 to 104
http://img39.echo.cx/img39/894/redlorus017xo.th.jpg
red: Denver-El Paso + Helena-LA
lorus: Montreal-New Orleans + Montreal-Atlanta

We both finished our tickets pretty quickly. I had worse tickets but I managed to close with higher track points and the longest route by... 1 car! Close call.

Game 2: lorus wins 127 to 100
http://img53.echo.cx/img53/5750/redlorus020jh.th.jpg
red: Boston-Miami + Toronto-Miami
lorus: Vancouver-Santa Fe + Denver-Pittsburgh

I'm stuck in short tracks while lorus takes the highway. I try to block Lorus from going to El Paso, but he didn't need to go there. He wins by a comfortable landslide.

Game 3: red wins 107 to 61
http://img266.echo.cx/img266/9861/redlorus033uw.th.jpg
red: LA-Chicago + Denver-Pittsburgh
lorus: LA-Miami (failed) + Portland-Nashville (failed)

My first successful block! I managed to prevent lorus from connecting east and west. He got longest route but failed both tickets. I got both of mine.

Game 4: red wins 120 to 68
http://img283.echo.cx/img283/8527/redlorus048js.th.jpg
red: Seattle-NY + Calgary-Salt Lake City
lorus: Initially, I don't know, two east coast tickets. At the end, seven tickets, three failed.

This time I got the long tracks and a big mission, lorus was lost in the west. A few turns before the end locus saw he was losing and unsuccessfully tried his luck with new tickets.

It certainly is possible. This is why a tournament should have a non-playing director, so as to have someone who can act as a neutral party and make such decisions. I'll check on a few things and get back to you.

Right, by my posted rules: "Should a match not be complete by the end of 22/6/2005, I may, at my sole discretion, disqualify both players from the tournament."

Note that this says "may". I worded it that way for a reason. If I am satisfied that a player is not making him- or herself available to play a match during the appropriate period, I will rule that the match is forfeited by that player. I am not forced to disqualify both players, and such action will be taken at my sole discretion, as stated.

I'll let you know if an when I rule any matches to have been forfeited by a player. In the meantime, please bring matches where there seems to be a problem to my attention, so I can look into it.

So far, the following results have been confirmed:

1. grolapinos defeated chrigu
2. redPEPPER defeated lorus
3. léachris defeated kri&caro 44
5. thaddäus defeated bassie
6. Falke defeated hermelin
13. Rode katers defeated montezuma
16. vegas defeated grenouillette

If your result does not appear here, don't panic. I'm still working my way through some confirmations.

Thank you very much to bassie and hermelin, the only players in that list so far who have lost their matches and still bothered to send me a PM to confirm the result. This is both very sporting and a big help for me, as I don't have to track down the games in their histories to confirm the results.

I'm not keeping track of the scores. If you want to see how matches went, ask the players and check the histories. Unfortunately, I only have so much time to devote to this, and so I am concentrating on the essentials - who advances and who doesn't.

Beshop has sent a PM to me claiming a win by forfeit against Olivier27. It seems Olivier27 has been unable to play due to technical difficulties. As Beshop's PM contains a copy of the PM sent to him by Olivier27, I am prepared to accept the win by forfeit should Olivier27 not protest.

I will send Olivier27 a PM to confirm, but it appears he is a French-speaker, and I am not. Someone who speaks French might like to send him a PM to let him know what I've said.

So far, I don't believe I have heard anything about the following matches:

10. vinz Spieler67204 (aka darkangel1000)
14. Peter de Zeeuw pat's jumelle
15. lotusardent salutos

There are several other matches in which there is some sort of difficulty to sort out (ranging from scheduling the match to confirming the results). Various PMs have been sent about them.

The people in the above matches should remember that, by my calculations, they have about 22 hours left to play their matches.

Also, somebody asked me about a scheduling difficulty for the next round, but I have accidentally deleted the PM (as I try desperately to delete the unneeded PMs so I can receive more results). If that person reads this, could he PM me again please?

If I act as tournament director for future tournaments, I may insist on banning such accounts. Being unable to contact players to arrange matches or (for me) to clear up hassles is a big problem. Maybe if such people provide an email address instead, that would be workable, but there needs to be some more direct method of communication.

I didn't think there would be any problems, but unfortunately a tournament director has to come from a stance of "trust no-one". It's not that I think Beshop would lie, of course, it's just that neutrality requires that I treat all players equally, which means if I act towards Beshop with complete trust I have to act towards everyone else with complete trust. Unfortunately, that's not a wise idea (as has been shown by certain players and how they climbed the rankings). Anyway, that's why I like to ask for confirmation from the losing player as much as possible.

Thanks for the info, léachris.

I've now got confirmation of the forfeit from Olivier27, so Beshop is through to round 2.

(My read receipt for my message to Olivier27 came back to me in French, so now it looks like I'm sending messages to myself in French! Gah, it's enough to drive a poor mono-linguist like me insane. Laughing )

10. Spieler67204 (aka darkangel1000) defeated vinz by forfeiture
11. Lexion defeated mimimart

Thank you very much again to all the defeated players who still took a moment to confirm the result. I think I got PMs from all four defeated players here.

I believe Orc&Roll is on holidays. I also believe that his match has been resolved to the satisfaction of both players. Hence:
7. jac_ defeated Orc&Roll

Which means we are currently waiting only on the result of match 12, torsten vs alektacrome. Torsten has definately won two games, and alektacrome has, so far, won none. There have been some scheduling difficulties and difficulties contacting alektacrome. At this stage, it looks likely that I will declare Torsten the victor come the end-of-round deadline. It would obviously be best to finish the match, but if alektacrome cannot be contacted, I don't believe Torsten should be penalised.

Anyone who might have contact with alektacrome may wish to pass this on.

Round 2 Draw

1. grolapinos redPEPPER
2. léachris nico06
3. thaddäus Falke
4. jac_ optimus
5. beshop Spieler67204 (aka darkangel1000)

You are quite correct. My most abject apologies. I even knew myself that you won that match, checked the result in your history and later received confirmation from chrigu, but I've flipped the names in a transcription somewhere.

I'm surprised you didn't point out the error to me much earlier, as this was incorrect in the first set of results I posted! No matter. This was entirely my error.

I have corrected the draw.

Re:Open tournament Sun, 26 June 2005 08:01
Considering that a chunk of the 24th was wiped out by technical problems, the official draw was posted late for similar reasons, and there has been a lack of time to send PMs back and forth to organise to play matches, would anybody strongly object to extending the deadline for second-round matches? With a touch over 24 hours to go before the original deadline, it looks to me like about half the remaining players would be likely to be eliminated on forfeiture if I enforce that deadline too strictly.

(I'm thinking that future tournaments might be better organised based on something like a week per round. But hey, we're just trying this sort of thing out right now. I expect there to be problems, and we can all learn for future tournaments.)

We chose to schedule 1st and 2nd round in 3 days on purpose because of holidays approaching for everyone here and vinz ( THE boss) was not available before the 20th of june !

With more time , each round would have lasted 1 week of course !
