Welcome to the Ticket to Ride for iPad forum Thu, 19 May 2011 13:35
Ticket to Ride Online is a cross-country train adventure now playable directly on your iPad!

The goal of the game is to collect and play train cards to claim railway routes connecting cities listed on Destination Tickets you receive at the start of each game. The longer your routes, the more points you earn. But you have to be careful: if you find yourself blocked off by opponents, each Destination Ticket left unfulfilled will cost you dearly!

Multi-Player with pre-set mixed humans and bots? Sat, 21 May 2011 21:49
Is it possible to add bots to a human multi-player game?

I would love to play with my friend in the Switzerland map with the double-tracks available for both of us, and for that we need a third player. A bot would be perfect to play along....

Oh, and I will join the long list of requests for local multi-player.

Destination Ticket suggestions Sun, 22 May 2011 16:49
Hi,

A few suggestions when drawing Destination Tickets:

1) Next to the Destination Ticket draw pile, include a gauge or similar control to indicate approximately how many cards are left in the pile, similar to what you do with the Train Card draw pile.

2) After drawing or being dealt Destination Ticket cards, and while selecting which ones to keep, do the following:

a) Continue to highlight existing ticket destination cities in green as you do today. As new tickets are selected from the draw, highlight those destination cities in a different color (say, blue) so that the difference between new/existing cities is clear. If a city is shared by both new and existing destinations, display a split-color dot (green/blue).

b) When you tap to select a prospective ticket destination card, cause the newly selected city markers to pulse momentarily on the map -- similar to what happens when you tap-and-hold on prospective ticket today -- except that it would pulse in blue. Selecting a different card will stop other cities from pulsing and cause its cities to pulse instead. Deselecting a card will stop all current pulsing.

3) Allow users to review their existing destination ticket cards (including point values) during new ticket selection. That would help to make a more informed decision.

4) Show stations during ticket selection.

Thanks!

Solo Play HoF Wish! Sun, 22 May 2011 18:14
Hey Guys,

While I do appreciate you at least included a Hall of Fame for us primarily Solo Players, having one Hall of Fame to cover all of the game variants doesn't make any sense.

Ideally there should be a separate section for each game variant and then even THAT needs to be divided into different sub-sections based on number of players (a winning score in a 5 player game will never compare to the best winning score from a 2 player game).

I also concede this would get even more complicated if you add in multiple AI levels!

Here is one possible idea. When the human player wins a game, in addition to seeing their and the opponents' scores, maybe we could also be shown the top 3-5 scores made by the player in the current configuration (game mode, number of players, and AI level).

The iPad version, like the computer version, only shows the combined rank for all games. Would it be possible to also see the ranks for all the different kinds of games, like you can on the web (two player, multiplayer, Europe, USA, Swizz and so on)?

Thanks for all the hard work you have put in to this great piece of software!

Ability to entre game without forcing us to "continue" game in progress Sun, 29 May 2011 23:52
This sort of coincides with the other issue I had requiring us to "quit" a game in order to adjust the sound sliders or switch sides, but I think is also important.

Right now, if I exit the game and enter it in again, I cannot do anything BUT continue my game. If I choose no, my game is lost. I can't adjust the settings, look at anything else, I have to either quit the game or continue it.

It would be nice, especially going forward if we have asynch multiplayer, to allow us to be able to do more things in-game and then allow us to resume a game that we had started.

Does that make sense?

Hard to define borders on "Tickets" Mon, 30 May 2011 09:18
As was mentioned in the TUAW post, I'm also having the same problem.

It's very very difficult to see the outline of the tickets and MANY times I've made a mistake trying to select the tickets.

I don't think this should be too difficult to fix?

many small remarks... Wed, 01 June 2011 19:30
Hello fellow players/programmers,

Here's my experience after playing TTR on the iPad for a few days. It's maybe too much for one thread, but I didn't want to create a thread for every bullet point.

BUGS
• If I select a 3 player online table, it sometimes happens I get added to a 4 or 5 player table. Annoying, because the strategy with 4 or 5 players is radically different from the 3 player variant that I enjoy playing.
• When dropping a joker on a gray route I got the message "We cannot figure out which color you want to play" or something like that. But I had only one colored card, so my move was not ambiguous.
• If you zoom in on the map just before the final animation (showing which tickets all the players got) the map cannot zoom out anymore.
• When you take color cards on the last move of he game, the first card usually flickers (tested on an iPad 1).

MINOR DETAILS
• The text "You only have 1 wagons left" is not good English.
• The spoken text "If this is your very first game..." should be omitted for players with 100+ games...
• Dropping cards on the map becomes a lot easier if you create a Voronoi tessellation of the midpoints of the routes, and classify the location of the cross hair accordingly.

FEATURE REQUESTS:
• I would like to have a "library-mode" as I call it, i.e., a silent mode (without the intro voice). Now, you can turn the sound off in the settings, but the voice remains. All that helps is the hardware solution.
• I would like to be able to see who's move it is at a glance. Now, I find myself staring at the images to see which image is slightly bigger, or which one is glowing.
• When showing finished routes during the game, that particular route card should be on top of the pile.
• The animation showing the finished routes gets annoying (i am aware that I got it). Just a stamped ticket would be enough. Please make this a settable option.
• Show the complete online ranking, with search option.
• Before the start of the game, sometimes the table "captain" doesn't realize that the table is full, and doesn't press start. He should be woken up by a whistle (same sound as when he presses "Start").

QUESTIONS:
• In the original game, we play it so that the players return their initial tickets in the playing order, as not to give slow deciders an information advantage. Is this also implemented in the iPad version? I couldn't tell.
• Sometimes, there is no drawing pile. Why is this? Should it also be played like that in the original game? When the drawing pile is empty, we immediately shuffle the cards returned so far, so that there a player can always take a blind card.

Regards, Marcel Nijman

Embarassed After playing a game on the iPad versio,n when you enter the game completed screen showing the tracks or rails won, it sometimes crashes and exits the game either to the opening screen or crashes completely exiting the game all together. Can tech support update and fix this? It is. Ery frustrating to not see the end and who won. Please fix ASAP!

Points deducted for no reason. BUG? Fri, 03 June 2011 03:38
I was playing TtR Switzerland today, and had loads of completed tickets (12 or more). During end-of-game scoring, my total reached 200 points. After the longer route bonus went to my AI opponent, my score suddenly dropped to 193. I had NO uncompleted tickets, and have no idea what would have caused this. Please investigate!

Game 'crashed' Fri, 03 June 2011 03:57
I was playing 1910 Mega and was on the second or third turn. While drawing from the face-up cards, my iPad suddenly went back to the 'desktop'. When used the home button to bring up the multitasking bar, the TtR app was still listed. However, when I tapped on it, the game started from scratch, with the logo coming up, etc.

Game hangs Wed, 15 June 2011 11:50
I've seen the game hang on many occasions. Usually, I click the home button, go back to the app, it shows the splash screen for a few seconds and crashes. I start it again and it comes to the main menu.

However, this time, it's just hung at the end of game that I was about to win with a high score. I triggered the last turn and it just stopped on the blue player. Here is a screenshot:
http://www.darchis.be/eric/pics/TicketToRide_hung.jpg

My guess is that it is unable to decide what to do and so does not decide anything.

When I exit the app and come back, it correctly restores the game but doesn't decide anything more.

It's a pity, really because it would have been my highest score.

Sound Issue Thu, 16 June 2011 18:39
I just downloaded the app, and noticed that the sound only works with my earbuds in, but when I listen to music or use other apps, the sound works normally. Even more strangely, when I listen to music while playing the game, the game sound/music comes through normally without the earbuds with the music from the ipod app. ???

Is this a bug or a problem with my ipad? Seems really strange and kind of annoying!

Thoughts?

Thanks for any and all help!

couple of ipad Ticket to Ride issues/questions Wed, 07 September 2011 16:17
1. Is there anyway to review the map after the score has been shown at the end of the game. Would like to be able to discuss or look at the map after the game is over.

2. Sometimes the board freezes in online play and may unfreeze after a couple of minutes. What is going on. If one quits after the game freezes in online play, does this affect one's stats. How do the stats get computed?

thanks, Nadia

Bug in Ticket to Ride Switzerland Wed, 28 September 2011 12:31
I've noticed a bug in the iPad implementation of Ticket To Ride Switzerland.

When you try to create a tunnel (length 2 or more) using only tunnel cards by dragging a tunnel card from your hand, the game will incorrectly draw your colour cards instead of additional tunnel cards, if you have in your hand train cards of the colour that matches the tunnel.

If you drag a tunnel card, the game shouldn't take any colour cards unless you don't have enough tunnel cards. Dragging a tunnel card is the only way to indicate to the game that you do not wish to use colours. The game rules allow you to create a tunnel using only tunnel cards and thereby avoid the risk of encountering colour cards in the deck, but the iPad implementation of the game does not allow you to do this.

Additionally, in the above situation, if a tunnel card or a colour card matching the colour tunnel you are trying to build appears in the three next cards from the deck, the game fails to give you the option of using a tunnel card to pay the extra cards needed to complete the tunnel. This makes the situation worse because in this situation you are trying to avoid using any of the colour cards in your hand, but the game has taken them not only to complete the required number of wagons but also for any additional cost in building the tunnel.

TtR Pocket won't sync to Touch Fri, 18 November 2011 19:26
I eagerly downloaded TtR Pocket as soon as I saw it was out. I've found, however, that it will not sync to my iPod Touch 8GB 3G. I select the app, then start a sync. As the sync is finishing, the app never transfers, the checkbox for the app unchecks itself, and the app just isn't there. There are no error messages of any kind.

I know the 8GB 3G Touch is not a pure 3G, since it uses a lot of 2G hardware, but it does run iOS 4.2.1, which should meet the minimum requirements. Does anyone have similar experience or advice? I have tried deleting and re-downloading the app, with the same result.

TIA!

Problems with TTR pocket Sun, 20 November 2011 17:35
My family just played with 3 iPods and 1 iPad. Problems:1. IPad cannot start start a game. Can only join if an iPod starts. 2. It does not indicate when there is only one destination ticket left. At that point you have no choice but to take that ticket to keep the game going, even though you don't want it. 3. If someone doesn't pay attention and tries to get more tickets when there are no more tickets, that person is still required to pick a non-existent card and press done. So the game is frozen at that point. We had to count our own points. Which, I suppose is good for math skills. The game also froze once, but we can't explain why. Hope you can fix these things, because we LOVE your game!!

Bug report - TTR Pocket for iPhone Wed, 30 November 2011 22:55
Noticed the following in multiple games over the past week.

1) Trying to lay gray sections with all Locomotives doesn't work.

Error =
"We can't figure out which color you may want to play. Please use a Train card of color, not a Locomotive, to claim this Route!"

Rules under "Locomotives" state "they can be alone or in combination with standard Train cards to claim a Route.

It may not be a common use, but it should be allowed, correct?

2) After all Destination Tickets are drawn, the game will allow to try and draw more but since there are none, you cannot hit Done to get back to game. Ended up having to quit the entire game and restart.

Those are all I can remember right now.

After playing many many games it still does not show 20 game achievement.

One time after numerous plays it decided to not count 8 completed tickets and counted them as incomplete giving a nagative score.

Ghost players in 1.3.1 iPad upgrade Sun, 12 February 2012 14:36
ATTENTION TICKET TO RIDE iPAD ADVANCED PLAYERS ONLY:

If you start Online games in the Restaurant of the most recent version (1.3.1) of Ticket to Ride iPad, you may experience some bugs, especially if you move from one game to another without starting it. "Ghost" players might appear incorrectly when you finally start a game, for instance.

If this happens to you, a temporary workaround is to exit the Restaurant and enter it again. This will reset the connection to our servers and fix any issue that may occur otherwise.

This bug was introduced in version 1.3.1. We are working on a bug fix which we will release as soon as we can. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and thank you for your patience.

Really loving the Async TTR Pocket - thanks a ton for adding that. Hoping to see it come to the iPad version as well.

It's got some issues, none of which are that big of a problem. The one I'm really curious about is the fact that the notifications you get from Game Center don't clear when you go into TTR directly and play your turns. Is that something that can be managed by you guys programmatically? Or is that just the nature of how the back and forth with Game Center works?

The "It's your turn" banner on the iPhone is incredibly annoying. I know it's my turn, I'm trying to think about what to do, but every 5 seconds I get this annoying distraction that breaks my concentration.

Please turn it off. It reminds me of HTML blink tags. There has to be a better way to indicate who's turn it is.

I didn't want to sign up for an account to create this post on a bulletin board, but this drives me crazy and makes me not want to play.

Love the Ticket to Ride game and play it often (on IPad).

But two things would greatly improve the playing experiencefor me:

(1) ability to see level/score of person when they join your game, and before press start, to see if they are compatible. I prefer to play others who are around my score or higher, but also seem to pick up predators and those with really low scores looking to use the game to chat me up! I'd like the option of not starting the game if I feel they aren't compatible.

(2) ability to post a game and also see the forums/games page whilst you wait for someone to join. Perhaps a notification noise/icon that someone has joined your board?

Other than that....addictive and a great de-stresser. Keep up the great work!

1. Score, # of games played and karma never change after completed online games. I'm still sitting at 1500, 0 and 50.

UPDATE: It appears that only trophy games count. More info on the mechanics of online play is needed. Either the tutorial or help information needs to cover this.

2. No preference for full screen (Snow Leopard). I have to, instead, zoom and I have to do it every time.
3. No scoring detail or ability to view game board after a game ends. I see the end-of-game animation (that works fine) and then the rankings by finish. My only option at that point is to return to the menu/online lobby.
4. There are complete instructions for game play, but zero information on the interface and any icons. There are no tooltips or key. I fear that I am missing out on hidden functionality (see #1-3).

Has anybody noticed massive changes in their rankings in the past 7 days?

My ranking has been stable for several years. Then, despite upwards changes in my score, I have noticed dramatic decreases (20%) in my ranking that can only be attributed to a change in the ratings formula, massive numbers of new players leap frogging ahead, hacking, or ......?

Problem playing our Web games on Mac OS X with latest Java patch? Activate Java in Safari! Tue, 17 April 2012 12:08
Dear Mac players,

Apple released a security update of the Java runtime, which addresses the Flashback malware.

As an extra safety measure, this update may also turns off Java in Safari.

So next time you start our Web games, you might see an alert asking you if you want to activate Java. Make sure you activate it. After that, quit Safari and start it again.

You will be able to play normally.

If you missed the dialog, enabling Java in Safari is easy. From Safari, go to the Preferences, Click "Security" and enable Java by ticking the "Enable Java" check box.

Let us know if you have any questions or problem by posting here.
