Expansion Fri, 01 October 2004 18:55
Has there been any talk lately of an expansion or an additional WWII Command and Colors type game? This game has so much potential for other conflicts and types of game. I would love to see a Pacific based game, with planes and sea warfare.

Tell us your thoughts Mr. Borg?

Keep up the good work.

Yes, there will be expansions for the game, though they will not ship or be announced this year. We are quite busy simply trying to keep the current product in stock, and working on a few other M44 things, some of which will be discussed in greater depth soon (ie in the next week or two).

Exactly what I've been thinking. This game system rocks.

I'd strongly suggest considering an Eastern Front expansion set, with maybe a lighter shade of "Russian Green" for the Ruskie pieces (and don't forget those T-76's, plus symbol counters for elite Russian Guards and Russian partisans.) Also, perhaps consider a "General Expansion Set" with rules, cards and pieces for: landing craft (Higgins Boats + LST's), gliders, self-propelled artillery, mech infantry, perhaps alternate rules for more airpower, road/highway hexes.

Also, has anyone come across a roll-up style blank hex sheet at this scale? When I see all of the pieces from 2 sets put together, "Kursk" just keeps popping into my head.

Rather than an expansion (and from a marketing perspective) I would rather see a new game using the same system that can be integrated with M44. As mentioned here, perhaps an East Front or North Africa game with new card sets and units. Use the same card backs so you can integrate new special cards and terrain or swap out some from one game to the other if you have both.

With reference to a "roll-out" hex-board to scale, why not ask a friend or collegue with an AutoCAD program to print off some large hex-sheets.

There is a source for 2" hex maps:

Haven't seen this "live", but they seem like they would work well.

Hello,
i've posted a message on new thread 'cause i haven't seen this topic...this was my message:

Hi to all!
Just an idea..may be with a battlefiend on 2side board (like the existing one), a side designed with a sea, other side with a town...on the sea could be located ships and submarines...into the town designed (or tiles) buildings, wich interrupt line of sight and may have on hit sharpshooters...could be a good idea?

I would like to see on the next expansion, the ability to join the map boards on the long side. This would mean not having a place to put victory tokens but I don't think that would be a big deal.

Eric,

Thanks for the great news. I'm patiently waiting for expansions... but it's killing me at the same time! Wink

I know at one point Mr. Borg had mentioned the possibility of a North Africa scenario booklet (only a possibility, so for those of you tuning in don't take it as gospel), but I would much rather see a full-fledged boxed expansion for each theatre of operations. I would buy a scenarion booklet, but I just wouldn't enjoy it as much without a proper desert board (or an appropriate board for each theatre).

Multi-hex desert tiles may do the trick, if a new board is not an option.

Well I loved the game so much I bought two copies!

The expansion will be interesting...I suppose at the end of the day the USA is DoW's main market, and therefore they would be wise if any expansion had Yanks involved in it somewhere. So:

- Kasserine/Tunisia
- Italy
- Battle of the Bulge (perfect for 60th anniversary Smile )
- Market-Garden
- Pacific Island hopping (hopefully with the Milne Bay scenario - the first time the allies shattered the myth of Japanese invincibility)

*edit* having just said all this, I'd love to see an expansion based on the eastern front with T34/76 tank models.

I'm making a big assumption here that the next expansion will focus on campaigns, and will continue to remain a lite wargame, accessible by veterans and beginners.

I would prefer a full game as an expansion, with the same rules, but with difference scenarios. However one thing I'd like to see is a campaign booklet.

Running a campaign involving linked battles would be a lot of fun, with the added advantage that battles only take about an hour to play. Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 have been doing linked battles for years, but the biggest proiblem is that the actual games take a long time to play. Memoir '44 is perfect for campaign play. Cool

I agree a Russian front version (w/ Russian infantry and T-34s) would be cool, as would a N.Africa module (w/ Italian & British infantry & tanks). And of course w/ the appropriate terrain & tactic cards.
