I've owned the original Small World for quite some time now and am considering expansions. However, I have some questions to ask before I do this (note that I consider Underground an expansion due to Tunnels):
1. How balanced do you feel the original, expansion-less Small World is?
2. Which expansions would make it more balanced or not upset the original balance too much? Which ones make it less balanced?

1. Imo the original Smallworld is more balanced, than with any other expansion. There ist almost always a counter-race to pick, for each race on the board. So there is never a race, which just rules the board.
2. I can't say, which expansion makes it less balanced, but I think the more races are in the tray, the less balanced the game is, because there are not always counterparts for the races on the board.
