This year I'm afraid... But this is a big step in the right direction* for national Memoir44 championships, IMO.

And great work on the invitation, web page, etc.

Best of luck to all!
Magnus

* The direction being closer to Denmark of course...

I don't know if the organisation would want to come out with the results table themselves, so I will not spoil who won. (I did not win)
I am glad a Belgian won the first Belgian Open. Alot of French players ended in the top ten so the first place was hard fought between France and Belgium.

Personally, I am happy with my 7th place out of almost 60 players. I would have been disappointed if I would have ended in the bottom half of the table, and secretly I was hoping for the top quarter of the results table (meaning top 15). 7 is much better than I expected.

The system of Swiss rounds was very good. As the tournament progressed, you played more and more against players of your own skill level. I would advise this system for all future tournaments with that amount of players.

I will leave the pleasure of the publication of the scenarios to the organisers. They told us not to publish the scenarios immediately. What I can tell you though is that the sequence of scenarios really told a story. Every scenario was presented to the players in a separate breefing room (university aditorium) only minutes before the game, with alot of show (a short movie with archive footage of the war), humor, flair, ... followed by a short rules briefing.
Really some top quality organisation. (a special thanks to those people who spent their weekend serving drinks and sandwiches at the bar)

There were very nice prizes for the top 8 (I got an equipment pack), and everyone got pre-printed maps of all of the 6 scenarios we played during the tournament. I really hope someone posts an image of the trophies (bronze - silver - gold) for the top 3 players soon, so you can all see them.

We had great fun, got to know some of our online opponents for real and showed the world how a war game can bring people together
Wink
4 nationalities were represented. I had a real pleasure playing against each of my 6 oponents during the tournament. All very nice and friendly players.

Ok, now I am baffled ...
Even the Belgian press picked up on the tournament.

Even the press picked it up?

Like Wim, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the organisers of the Belgian Open for a very well run tournament.

And to all participants it was a pleasure you meet you all.

Top organisation !

The scenarios made us remember and revived the courage off the Belgian 'Chasseur Ardennais', who bravely fought and held back the overwelming numbers off Germans, invading our country in 1940 without declaration off war !
It was great to discover the 6 scenarios 1 by 1.
The footage in videos and pictures that came with these presentations made the story complete !
Receiving the pre-printed maps off these at the end of the tournement topped it all off !

Although a competiton, the allround atmosphere was amicable and fairplay ! It was great to meet, talk, discuss, laugh with the 'real' man and woman behind the 'nicks' we all now so well from the internet.

Many thx toward all people envolved in the organisation, from the briefing general, to the people who did the map setups toward the barkeepers !

A special thx to my 6 opponents for a fun experience and quality gametime ! (although some hammered me pretty hard) Wink

I too enjoyed it immensely. Even though I started rather poorly, after the first match I was the last player in the ranking. Cool

It was very nice to meet my on line buddies face to face. And the atmosphere was really friendly. I am also looking forward to next year and hope to do better than my 25th place. Razz
